  1. Good to see the mighty and consistent Franklins up there. It's now a nice buzzy place for a local drink on a Friday eve too. Think it's even better than before.
  2. Ar5e. I'm sorry. I fear I've derailed this thread....please feel free to ignore the next 5 posts before it gets back to Franco's. I should know better by now.
  3. Rahrahrah - this calorie warning is from a man who is one of Jaflong's biggest customers. But let us not let that get in the way of some timely health advice. :-)
  4. Great lighting: http://www.jim-lawrence.co.uk/top/lighting
  5. So "Dr Hillary Jones was sitting inside Colin the Handyman? Sounds a bit rude to me but I've long had my suspicions

  7. Add well enforced fire arm laws to my list of pre reqs.

    Roast

    So they tell me.
  9. This is kitsch wank for the funky middle class. But say what you like. You live in a postcode full of people who buy this stuff.

The road up to Dulwich golf course. About dusk.
  11. Stable political climate, low corruption index and decent health care would also feature in my criteria. So that rules out Greece for me.
  12. Yo' bro'. Really likin' your street jive. I've been looking at South France for a while but after talking to a few weekly Easyjet commuters it seems the shine soon wears off. It's tiring and you are forever between the two. I think it works best when you can move the centre of your world to the country in question and embrace it full on. The basque area is nice as is the Eastern Med side (from Banyuls to Montpelier).
  13. I'm also struggling with this one. I've got electric u/f in a rear ground floor garden extension under sandstone tiles. The problem is that it's like a very slow radiator and takes 24 to 26 hours to warm up the room to a reasonable temp (if it's cold outside) and then you have to keep the fucker on all the time. I cant work out if its cheaper to keep it on all the time at a lower temp than the spike to warm it up each weekend.
  14. Cyclemonkey - and what happened? did you secure a property at 10% off the price it was marketed at? Or are you still looking?

Best hit the pilates class now then. :-)
  16. Too many fried chicken boxes and kebab wrappers in my front garden on Felbrigg quids. But loved the location when I lived there. Almost as much as Ultimate Court. Conveniently situated for the pig and balfes.
  17. What about this little fixer upper? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30834843.html It's just had an offer fall through and would no doubt take offers now...
  18. Sorry to state the obvious, but you need to pick a street that's close enough to the attractions but far enough away to be quiet. The streets north of Dulwich Park between Lordship Lane and Dulwich Village are perfect for this (Woodwarde,Beauval Rd etc). Almost rurally quiet but 5 mins walk from ED bars and shops, 3 mins from the park and 5 from the village. The only problem is that they are full of golf jumpers, sunday morning car washers and retired headmasters.

Yes, granted there was stuff that was off key from the start (Concept with no substance behind it, oddly surly front of house). But for those operators usually all of it is a but whiffy. What gave hope was for a good few months was some truly excellent food. Like Mick and unlike edcam (who may have been once?) at least the five times or so I went there for dinner....one meal was the best I've ever had in London. Ever. And I'm including Finger Lickin' Chicken in that.
  20. A few posters above just rehashing what they've said before a thousand times. The peculiar story of its founding, trajectory and the massively misplaced egos of some of the founders interests me more. It's a modern fable.
  21. General point specifically not related to The Patch: Whats the typical form when pubs die slowly - is it that you're down for the lease anyway so you may as well keep open and sell off as much stock as possible to minimise your losses? And to help further you can avoid "creditors" by going cash only? Hire a cheap chef and move to frozen stuff to sell on demand and make a small turn? Or is it a garish coloured blackboard brought out the basement that says "2 for 1 cocktails all night long". Seriously - i'm genuinely interested. The last incarnation of the Mag was open for months with just the same 4 customers per night and a chill in the air.

  23. I don't know about anyone else. But I fancy a cup of tea and an orange chocolate Jacobs with Dunstans Chap. Will he be up right now do you think?
  24. Check out the Friday night, alcohol induced froth from the dads above. AM - you should know that it's fairly liberal / PC on here to the extent that some older attitudes to the natures of gender get short shrift. Which is a pity as I think you've raise a very interesting subject. "Reasonable" in the context of pricing goods or services is often totally subjective and based on a particular individuals ingrained attitudes and life experience. Then you have the difference between cost and value?.which many people seem to confuse or misunderstand. When I see those business section posts what most people seem to be saying is " I want someone really good who doesn't charge much" and that's the problem. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and pay the extra to get good stuff/people/whatever.
  25. Nice public response from Paul O'brien. I was in the cubs. I learned how to make a bed with those military sheet corners. And also how to make a fried egg sandwich for old Mrs McCorkindale. Both helpful skills still in use today.
