  1. I asked one of the wee kids where he lived. He said "Peckham". Anyway - he's forgiven.
  2. Can I take the opportunity? Dear young hooded lad from Peckham. You threw a ball of ice through my window last night breaking 2 ft sq of glass and costing me ?50 from ye olde Walsh Glazing. Thank you for choosing my house and not that of a pensioner, the poor, the sick or one of many in dire need of grit. This Christmas I forgive you and wish you glad tidings. You little fecker.
  3. Southern are running a Saturday timetable. A train currently broken down at Lon Bridge (730am) is causing further delays up to 35 mins. Not sure about buses yet....
  4. I do love how the BBC weather at 6pm went "Yes of course VERY treacherous out there...lots of snow" as if they even mentioned it earlier. They're always great at telling us whats already happened.
  5. Little hoodie feckers.
  6. Left house at 4.20pm - got as far as Franklins (150 yards) in a temporary whiteout. Abandoned plans to meet mates in town as figured transport would be shortly be screwed. Had pint in Franklins watching Chaplin-esque scenes on the lane. Returned home to find broken glass, a 1 ft hole and an ice ball through my door window. If that was your kid / hoodie fecker and you own up then the damage will be about ?80 thanks. Little feckers. Other half is stuck for two hours in car at Old Kent Road. This place goes to the dogs with a tiny bit of snow. Also now working on a plan B if airports are shut on Christmas eve....not confident in the infrastructure at all!

Cowell wins when he wins and wins when he loses - he's a great businessman, but I think no conspiracy theories here. Despite few public words he was sending concerned internal emails round Sony last week asking "Who's responsible for letting us compete against ourselves here? and "How did this happen?". The battle probably pushed up sales of wee Joe's sacchrine ballad higher than they would have been but it wasn't about money or sales or a Sony masterplan. Just sticking one up them for a bit of fun.
  8. It's a pop up gallery. Like, get hip to it dude.
  9. He said "High income" Jeremy - not millionaires. Jamie - what's your definition of high income?
  10. A common sense decision if only temporary respite. My favourite quote from Unite secretary Derek Simpson: " a disgraceful day for democracy" - a man who if not intentionally has just been judged in a court of law to have run an illegal ballot. The man is an idiot!
  11. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If BA disappears... well, apart from employees, it won't > make any difference Not sure I'd agree with that Sean. BA are not the best carrier, nor are they the cheapest but they have a strong brand identity and trusted history that still means a lot to a lot of people. Particularly in a metal tube at 35,000ft. The failure of a national carrier is often intrinsically linked to the overall health of that nation and it's perception globally. Can you imagine the Aussies without Quantas? or the French not caring about Air France? And whilst the grumpy service and high prices on Air Canada are legend amongst Canadians, the red maple leaf at 35,000 ft is still a welcome sight to most. I'd like to see BA recover, reform and take a few tips from premium carriers like Singapore and Emirates when it comes to quality customer service. So would Willie Walsh - but it's like wading through treacle when your quarterly profit can be wiped out in 3 days by a blinkered union with no long term thinking. Whilst the industry as a whole is in turmoil as it adjusts to the new economic models there will always be customers prepared to pay a premium for service and comfort and this is where BA can compete best - on long haul. The wider preaction to Unites actions today has been poor - they have very little public support so it will be interesting to see whether Walsh will call their bluff.
  12. You beat me to starting this thread. It's senseless and a PR disaster. My BA Christmas eve flights are too risky to lose so I've swapped to EasyJet before they sell out. It's not too disimilar to the Royal Mail - a long respected British brand that needs to modernise it's business model to survive, strangled by a short sighted union that can't understand that any business losing ?1.6 million a day might eventually mean no jobs at all. Unite know that no government will let the national carrier fail and are milking that as best they can.
  13. Nah they still dig it. It gest regular outings at Adventure Bar most Saturday nights. Er...ahem... so I believe.
  14. Devil horns right back at ya bro! Woo! etc
  15. I'm hip to this shit man. Even if it only slightly annoys Cowell it's 79p well spent. It was also an Inside 72 classic... usually played on a Wednesday at 7pm back to back with Tom Petty. Pay no attention Brendan - this forum is full of subdued rebels - with Che T shirts yet neutered by comfy jobs in the city, quality butcher meat and sour dough bread.
  16. Great stuff Dave. I wonder if there is any correlation between the wale and age? For my first pair I have some boot cut needle cords from Levi's to ease me in. But I'm much looking forward to progressing to those big fat low wale velvety chunky cords with turn ups that my Dad wears at Christmas. Edit - poor spelling as usual.
  17. To be fair, public spending was cut in the past two recessions when other factors were to blame. So I think a certain amount of public belt tightening is always inevitable. Although this time that 1% pay cap for some public sector jobs must sting a bit given I don't think Darling went far enough with the banks - they've gotten off way too lightly and I think it's just plain wrong. Even those that kept a fairly clean balance sheet like Barclays, JPM and CS benefited indirectly from massive UK tax payer support. The CEO's of all the major retail and investment banks are meeting in secret this evening to discuss a unified response to the PBR. One's already considering a move back to the US in the huff at Darlings windfall tax. These are people with five homes and a seven figure take home (without risking any of their personal capital) who are having to take a 4M bonus instead of 5M and threatening to leave an empty wasteland in Canary Wharf. It's obscene.
  18. You've got a red scarf though Sean. Mick - remember that thread you started where everyone just had to say what they did the night before? That was brilliant. I think it got about 3 posts....
  19. I bought my first pair of cords the other day. Because they are comfortable. Also wearing desert boots. Again only because they are comfortable. One step further to the grave....
  20. Although in hindsight, R&A's Aldershot > Hong Kong has to be the best change to date.
  21. Quiet night eh? Edinburgh East Lothian Sutton Sydney Battersea New Orleans Clapham East Dulwich Yep, I guess that makes me a total w**ker.
  22. You can't beat Uncle Ben's (no relation) microwaveable rice from Budgens - it comes healthy as wholegrain or you get Mexican or Tandoori varieties. I use it with Mackerel fillets , spring onions, chilli , curry powder, hard boiled eggs and some peas to make an awesomely quick kedgeree. High in Omega 3, protein and perfect when you get in from the office at 1am.
  23. Darn you Carnell.
  24. From Delia Smith's 70's epic How to Cook Part I (Egg chapter): Get a large, frying pan and fill it about two inches deep with water. Place on the stove until just before boiling point i.e. lots of tiny bubbles start forming on the base of the pan with a few rising. Turn off the heat and immediately crack and carefully lower eggs into hot water (don't stir... and use a spoon to help). Leave in the hot water for 10-11 minutes. Serve. It's true genius that little jumped up oiks like Worral-Thompson could only ever hope to imitate.
  25. I've got four loo's in my house Jimmy - come over any time!
