Pathetic in fact.

The Beach Boys Christmas album sounds like lost Christmas gold at track 1 before becoming tedious at track 3 and you'll be suicidal before you're two thirds of the way through. Avoid.

England are now second favourites at 5-1 with William Hill.... "we can win it this time" etc etc It's always interesting for us non England fans to watch the gradual media hysteria building up down here. The Tartan Army have the opposite problem - we expect to lose! Whilst my prediction is a quarter final exit to Germany on penalties England have to be happy with that draw. Good luck to them though.

Legal - what was that NON-alcoholic Boho cocktail you were drinking? That was the best thing I've ever tasted.

It was Slash, Keef. SLASH. It's all a bit High School this. You're not exactly shy and retiring with your views AnnaJ and can be a bit preachy at times so you're always going to wind a few people up.... but no excuse for poor manners. I don't think last night should be remembered for this. I really enjoyed it.

Didn't expect to come but enjoyed this one. Anna I suggest you PM the offending culprit and give him/her a right good finger wagging.

Yep- to be clear I've not tried 90% of all dishes on all curry houses - as most have about 50 odd choices variants on the menu but I've tried most places at least once and like for like there's nothing to choose beteween them....you may as well roll a dice. Why go to any particular one? Keef - you are getting to the crux of it. A USP. Tandoori nights differs in that it seems less fatty, fresher and tastes better. It also seems to do better by conciously NOT having a delivery service?
-
There. I've said it. I can tell my Ardbeg from a Laphroig so I don't think I'm completely senseless. But apart from Tandoori Nights and Bombay Bicycle Club can anyone (other than Michael P) really tell the difference between Surma/Dulwich Tandoori/Pistachio Club/Mirash/Jafflong offerings? Am I alone in thinking they all taste much the same?

Ah yes...the annual "what shall we do at New Year?" thread. This met with a muted response last time given so many here are fairly apathetic preferring to watch Jools Holland with a warm tin of stella than pay 30 quid to get into their local. I take the opposite view - another year of life in this wonderful world is well worth celebrating. And paying a small amount to cover double time bar staff , extra entertainment and a free drink doesn't usually put me off. Last year The Rye and the Sun and Doves (Camberwell borders) were tipped. I did the Rye (2nd time after a glorious one in 2005) and it was a good bash - complete with stripping barmaid (unforgettable). An ED establishment has still to prove itself as THE place to go for New Year like other parts of London I know and the fact that you have had no response to your post yet suggests more apathy this year. So come on - who's organising a decent bash?

...and on occasion, 30-something workaholics. I'm not quite sure how I'd handle 3 hrs of sleep a night and do the hours I do with a mini-me in the spare room.... True also that there has been a mass exodus of late 20's early 30 something aussies in the past year - once the economy popped a lot of my antipodean mates saw sense and headed back to sunnier climes. Much to the dismay of my other half who has lost half her pals to babies and Australia. Sometimes both. It's a good place for that. Oh the pressure....

Jah - you're a genius. Records in .wav or MP3, has internal studio quality mics or can use an external one, a USB interface....may be worth a trip to Amazon. Thanks.

I like it in there but am off to Ian Brown that night - rumour has it he's started singing in tune.

I'd like to kindly ask for some help. Assuming I get prior permission from the artist/band first of course...whats the latest and best way to record live music i.e. from in the crowd, and without a direct feed from the PA? I used to use an old Sony Mini Disc with a directional mic discretely clipped to my jacket and then fed onto a recordable CD - it was great, reliable, good quality sound etc but as its bitten the dust I'm thinking that there must be an newer equivelant that offers decent quality and functionality? Any advice much appreciated.

Enter The Jaffacake.

I was talking to a local born and bred Dulwichite over the summer who explained that he didn't bother with the EDF or it's debates as his one cursory read revealed that "They're all mostly self important idiots apart from the gentleman called Marmora Man who is the only participant I could credit with any real intellect". A true compliment indeed and on that occasion I chose not to disagree!

Bumped!

Atila - you're clip spookily reminded me of this - single due out shortly - playing Brixton tonight at The Rest is Noise....Amsterdam tomorrow!

Just popped on at lunch hoping to find a lively debate on The Hand of Gaul - Day 2 but instead another promising thread descends into a debate on racism. That would be a pity. So getting back on track....Keane's predictable FAI wind ups anyone?

Easy to comment sitting at home but imagine an EDF equivalent broadcast on TV. For maximum conflict /eye candy / political correctness ratio required my picks would be: - Macroban - Legal Eagle-ish - Sean McGhabhan (peacemaker, cook, likes eating bugs) - Big Bad Wolf - Jumpin' Jackflash (Eye candy) - Daizie - Brendan (Camp joker, good with fires ) - The sushi lady from outside Moxons Then just as the camp settles I'd thrown in......

That standard US TV orange face and pearly whites reminds me of the American Vic and Bob look on Shooting Stars.

A shameless plug in the wrong section for my fast rising New York hipster mates The PHB who are playing a one off UK gig at The Rest is Noise in Brixton (442 Brixton Road) this Friday night (20th). This multi talented Brooklyn 8 piece are doing rather well. After an epic time in Hyde Park last summer (from which I'm still recovering) they are about to kick off a European tour with the mighty Franz Ferdinand before hitting the festival circuit next summer. What's more I'll be keeping it retro and selling special "Compact Discs" after the show. This will be a great alternative night out and it's only a short 37 away for those bold enough to leave the comforts of LL. Come on down.

I can confirm that it wasn't Adventure Bar which was a heady mix of 16 year old hipsters, mini cab drivers and 40 something Dads dancing to Genesis.

Is a cash machine on the other side of the street to much to ask for?
