  1. What about the post Hillsborough move from terracing to all seated grounds? In Scotland that was the start of the end - it was harder to be hard when you were sitting down on a plastic chair. At a Celtic vs Aberdeen game in 1988 at 13 years old I recall getting lifted into a coach by a policeman and told to take cover as bricks came through the windows in the away car park and a 200 strong pitch battle kicked off with poles, bricks and anything really. That stuff happened every week in arse end of Scottish council estates close to the ground and never made the news. For some reason the Aberdeen firm always had a rep with their "top boys" weirdly wearing Miami Dolphins shirts for a few seasons. It spawned its own labels /fashion - just like any gang or tribal culture but that was a bit odd I always thought. Even up in Scotland we heard about the urban myth (?) of the Chelsea smile and the Chelsea Headhunters....all part of the folklore...some of it pretty nasty.
  2. Last year Help-ma-Boab, in true Barry style, posted that it would be barry if the winner of the Barry Barry run was presented with the barry barry bear by Station Master Barry of Southern Trains, the most prominent Barry on the forum to date. Then, with huge delight to all, he said yes. And a sharply dressed Barry turned up on the day to present the trophy and very kindly donate two return tickets anywhere on the Southern network. A brilliant gesture from a very kind man. Barry in fact. For those who don't know the definition of Barry in this context - it derives from Edinburgh local slang and means "Fantastic" or "Great". As sprinkled liberally through the Irvine Welsh classic, Trainspotting.
  3. > And who's the cool cat with the groovy glasses who > appears to be hogging the limelight? (Yellow NYC > T-shirt) That would be the legendary Surfbobby - co-founder of the run itself, and fan of day-glo wear at anytime. Last seen in Australia.
  4. The legendary JAH F&&&NG LUSH people!! WOW!!! *passes out*
  5. Sean Mac ladies and gents....practically forum royalty. It doesn't get much better than The White Owl himself. Who next I wonder?
  6. And quids too. See? the A list are flocking now. In fact....I predict this could be the best one yet.
  7. Arf. I know. I can't help it. *shrugs like the Fonz* So there you have it. The next forum drinks will be the coolest ever because MR BEN will be there. Got that kids? The forum drinks are officially cool again....hooray!
  8. I would but, well...I've moved on. All the cool kids have. Ah just kidding. A nice little choice there Georgia...see you there for this one I hope.
  9. I say: speak to those who know me for the gritty not so fabulous reality Teddy boy. And how many time have I banged on about that one trip now?! Like a broken record living on past holiday glories....
  10. This thread is giving me an itch. What awesome advice from everyone. I've only done a very small trip that combined a long weekend in NY, flew to Vegas for 3 days gambling, then hired a beaten up Winnebago and drove from there across the Mojave desert to Palm Springs for the Coachella festival then flew out of LA. Weirdly all the flights on this open jaw were about the same price as a return to LAX. I remember seeing bullet holes in battered road signs as the sun was setting, and some old Credence on the stereo. Darn....I want to go back! In fact that would be my tip - take some great road tunes on CD - and go large on the Southern Rock. Very jealous.
  11. My mate divorced within a year of marriage - and after licking his wounds and counting the cost he recently took his tentative first step back into dating and joined a site. Fast forward a few months and I've been regaled with stories of the encounters he's had - with at least ten great girls of all backgrounds, interests and sexual preferences too strong to outline in a nice family forum. Put short he found it was a total hotbed of repressed deviancy and strings free fun - he dated a barrister, a make up artist, a dancer and a travel rep - all types.... and described the experience like "shooting very randy fish in a barrel". The site in question? Guardian Soulmates. Which of course has many non Guardian readers using it (although the name helps for respectability purposes).
  12. Keef - blowing that bass amp (in the encore too) was pure rock n roll. A brilliant set and loved that punchy four piece brass section. Hats off to the happy couple. I'm still sweating Balvennie. And the bar actually ran out of Bermudian rum! Thanks guys.
  13. This one?
  14. charliecharlie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do you think he takes notes or something????? Yep. I think he actually does. He's the forum historian and if anyone can remember, Sean MacGab-can I'm not a regular at these drinks but it's certainly unusual for there to be no forumista's present - time for the Next Generation perhaps? If I was single I'd be there in a shot - and all over Moos. And Jah Lush. Big Mikey P - see you tomorrow buddy. Booked the Ronald Reagan suite at The Jury's Inn. Got my soap. Looking forward to it.
  15. I should have Mick. With was all going good until 73rd odd minute but I was impressed with the English performance last night. Perhaps my 1966 Glenalbyn is not as safe as I thought.

    Bucket List

Ever been in a whirlpool with two girls, a big spliff and glass of cava HAL?

    Bucket List

Apologies if this is a little base.....but I've always wanted a wild all nighter with two naked 20 something women in a 5 star suite, complete with jacuzzi, Stones on the stereo and chilled Dom Perignon on tap. And yes, I reckon I'm still young enough to get away with that without it sounding creepy.
  18. To answer the OP though - I agree that Brindisa is a fine bustling choice, with Roast a second (for more formal classic British fare).
  19. I'm a Garrison fan I have to say. I once had a starter of haggis spinach and poached egg followed by duck that was one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. Sure it's a little expensive but not out of this world - and it has a nice ambience. Well no wallies when I was there. Plenty have said the same about The Palmerston but then I've always rated that highly too...make of that what you will!
  20. To football...I have ?100 on an England vs Egypt draw at 7/2 and a twenty on an Egyptian win at 7-1. Egypt looked very strong in the Africa Cup (which they recently won) but have not qualified for the World Cup and keen to show they are still strong...England trying out a few things in prep for the WC, Terry affair, restless expectant crowd . Basically I'm backing Egypt for a result with this one.....

Hugenot - apologies - it had indeed slipped my mind and was indeed a serious question. I have sent you a message. Many thanks.

Now I realise I may be pushing it in the Lounge, but in the absence of an EDF Business Advice/Networking section..... if anyone has worked / lived / done business in Singapore and would be kind enough to share some advice then I'd be most grateful.
  24. After losing to the USA in a group game, Canada stuck it to Germany , Russia and Slovakia last night and have made it to the mens ice hockey final vs the USA. Cue much celebration in our house. This is a HUGE match - and live on BBC2 / BBC red button tomorrow night (Sunday).
