  1. Worse than middle class handling of such kerfuffles is when you're half working class (Queensferry) half middle (Bruntsfield). You've got the fire to call it but end with a fizzle.
  2. Because middle class will take the most convenient option of least resistance. He wasn't best man but more of a fuss to deal with if he was banned than me. As he is closer to them and would act up....I don't. life's too short.
  3. I actually like Rifkind. He has a decency and integrity that many others don't - despite recent news.
  4. As a liberal Scot I've always voted Libdem or Labour. No Scot ever votes Tory. But this time round if I vote Tory the rest have only got themselves to blame.
  5. You mean Devo max?
  6. Why was I banned? Grooms best pal dropped in casual racism on a dinner we all had out, before disrespecting the waiting staff, sending his food back (which he does most times I've had dinner out with him) and basically behaving like a knob. And, after many times staying silent out of middle class politeness, I called him on it "mid lobster". It didn't go down well.
  7. Scottish Labour = disaster Labour had a hard core of support in Scotland since the early 1900's. A lot of that tradition's hardcore came from industry, Clyde ship building, mining etc - but that generation is now almost gone....and post referendum the SNP have snaffled all of the young majority vote.
  8. Excited about the General Election? No? Never has politics been this depressing. The Lib Dems are arguably in a worse state after playing second fiddle in the coalition. The tories are now so middle they've lost voters in droves to UKIP. And Labour are lost and don't have a leader with charisma and backbone to make any gains. Worse, they'll be obliterated in Scotland this time round. The end result? Sordid pacts with fringe radicals and another crappy coalition. Before 2010 the last hung parliament was 1974. In the current state I cant see that changing anytime soon. It doesn't really make you want to go running to the polls on voting day does it?
  9. Awful, boring non event of a budget that like so many makes headlines on the day and some political currency....but which makes sod all difference to most of us in the grand scheme of things.

    Blow in's

Not a bad definition for a 12:24am posting and this is the device Lou will deploy most on the forum for wind up purposes. However,as she knows,it's a lazy generalisation because: 1.It fails to recognise that socio-demographic change is a constant. The fortunes of these areas have risen and fallen several times already in the past 100-130 years. Peckham was well posh back in the day. 2. Never enough on here about the "blow outs" i.e mostly but not exclusively white working class who have actively chosen to sell up to middle class incomers, trousering the half mil of equity to buy a big semi in Orpington. Often but not exclusively with a hot tub in the garden.
  12. ....not from this forum...but from something else? If so, what was it? I only ask as I've just found out I've been banned from a wedding....my missus is going and quite cool about going without me. Once I got over it and reflected on the reasons I'm quite proud...
  13. Perfect for the new East Dulwich. (got there before you snorks)
  14. GBK founders sold out years ago. It's now the non musical equivalent of a radio-friendly unit shifter, pumped up battery farm style by private equity money and dishing it out to the masses.
  15. Foxy - you think ED is expensive. Check the shrimp pasta out on this.... http://balthazarny.com/menus/dinner.pdf Anyone been btw?
  16. Coming up with a recipe...the measures...the blend of flavours - it's like art no? Most home cooks are an assembly production line. Unless like Seabag (hipster btw) you are creating with multiple variables....or "live fire cooking".
  17. I am merely a trained ape.
  18. Saturday: I cooked a meal for house guests with some apparently genuine "I didn't know you were a good cook" type comments. This is bollocks and just doesn't make sense. The real plaudits should go to mockney super-brand chef Jamie Oliver as it was his specific recipe and instructions I followed. It was just the step by step assembly of parts, like an Ikea wardrobe, that produced the end result. Surely a trained Chimpanzee could do this? And perhaps truly good cooks are those who can invent their own recipes or cook on the fly?
  19. Despite losing 2-1 it was Will Smith summertime vibes at the Hamlet today. 1324 attendance is not too shabby....
  20. "It's like you've just brought a dead kitten into the room" http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/why-do-people-hate-mumford-sons-so-much
  21. It's the new register ZT. Over familiar and dumbed down but at least it's a friendly tone. It's not 1963 any more. This thread could be handled in two posts max but such is the way on here...
  22. The backlash on the backlash has started. I do prefer Arcade Fire as it happens. They're refreshingly free of any faux Appalachian stylings and dial down the banjo. I also can't see Bowie ever guesting for Mumford.
  23. Jamiroquai or Mumford? One for the "Choices you hope you never have to make" thread.

  25. There's a great gag insert here...but I just can't do it.
