  1. Give her a break chaps. She has been living in BATHGATE for 47 years so deserves her moment. I challenge anyone to do that or to hold that B flat in the chorus the way she did. Can any of you do that? Well shut up then! Go Boyle.
  2. Thanks Mockney. Damn the programming exec at Virgin who decided to post the first 8 of Season 2 onto On Demand and nothing else... I can almost sense your horror but this oddity means that I have also yet to actually see series 1 (DVD arrived today from Amazon) and I have some serious catch up to do. As always I'm way behind the curve.....hell in 2011 I might even buy an i Phone!
  3. Anyone know how many episodes are in season 2? On my Virgin on demand I only have 8 for that season (the only one they feature) but episode 8 doesn't really conclude anything - or perhaps thats the point?

    Tit Monday

Nope. It's still NOT Tit Monday. Now to some historical facts. TM has occurred only twice in April since records began so it's still early. The avearge temperature on Tit Monday is 22C (still a bit to go). So give it time.....
  6. I have to agree with the original poster. ED is great compared to many places I've lived. But from my personal perspective, the crime rate HAS risen in SE22 over the past 6 months relative to the 6 plus years I've lived here. Since Feb I've been burgled, had my car broken into, personal stuff stolen from a public place and two people I know have been badly mugged. Versus past five and a half years where the only bad stuff I saw was in 2004 when a helicopter landed by the CPT to airlift the poor guy in the post office (who had just been shot) to hospital. Have I just been unlucky? I honestly don't think so. Recent frequency of events doesn't justify that. I'm not sure what the reasons for this are. Its a recession but how does that effect petty crime? Less middle class cocaine being sold? Knock on effects? Drug sales aside these guys are off the mainstream economy anyway aren't they?

Salary alone is a very tax inefficient way to draw income for the self employed when you are taking personal risks to make a living that the employed are not.

Sean - around 0.5% of the UK population earn more than ?150K so my thoughts are that this is more gimick than substance - surely much greater revenue generators out there for HMRC. But as a sacrificial lamb to appease public opinion of "The Rich" it works quite well from a PR point of view.

    Tit Monday

Forum tradition dictates that the girls, whilst very welcome to contribute here, are far more likely to start their own thread to even the score. I quite like the idea of Inappropriate Vest Saturday but it doesn't have the same ring to it does it? Tit Monday is a unquestionably a male sensation. Whether openly acknowledged or not. And anyone who claims otherwise is either gay or a right on guardian reader.

    Tit Monday

Again - novice Michael P! There can only be ONE Tit Monday per year. As the guide says, keep your powder dry. I fear you have made the classic mistake and shot your bolt too early.

    Tit Monday

Novices! The rules state that Tit Monday does not have to be on a Monday. So even if it is on a Saturday it is still called "Tit Monday". Last year Tit Monday in West End was on April 29th. And it was a glorious site.

Anyway...onto more important matters (Lady forumites forgive me but you are all to blame for this annual synchronous wonder). Anyone calling it yet? I say no. A few outriders in short skirts or tops today. But crucially - not both. Flip flop count was also low with winter feet syndrome in evidence. And way to many winter coats still being worn. So its a no from me. Any reports from elsewhere?

Spot on *Bob* - never used it for that very reason. So there. Kiddults.
  16. Can I just take the opportunity to say again. As bars go, this place sucks.

  18. I indirectly know the couple mugged in Whatley road - it was on Friday night, 11.30pm, group of guys and at knife point. They took her handbag and then left them alone. Like what Snorky said - the risk / reward just doesnt stack up unless these people are totally desperate. And the sheer gall of doing 3-4 muggings over a 3 night period within the same area +/- 500 yards tells you THEY are laughing in the face of the police. We're a bunch of soft relatively wealthy namby just-out-the-pub targets....so what can you do?
  19. Good article from one of my favourite columnists - she's why I buy the FT weekend where this originally appeared (in more detail). Tells it straight.
  20. Lenk - On balance I think it's better than no post at all. And condolences mlewis. You have to assume the majority of the EDF is well rounded enough to put it into context. Wishful thinking but I think the majority of us do. I've been robbed at knife point once when I was 16 ( Stirling Scotland) where I ended up in A&E and no mini cab would take me to the hospital as they didn't want blood on their seats. Unpleasant but makes you forever streetwise. I can spot a gait, verbal , body language a mile off now and make a judgement call at the time. But it can be difficult if you have no other route to take. Self preservation - anyone who has been through similar (or from similar areas) will know what I mean. So I take this thread as a reminder to be streetwise and not cause for mass middle class fear on the mean streets of SE22.

What... you mean that diamond encrusted luggage is not your thing?? But it does a great Entrepreneur section that keeps small business owners up to speed, there's a small biz agony aunt and Merryn Somerset-Webbs articles cut through the usual bullshit and are informed, well researched and bring some common sense to the table. Recent one on the housing market especially good.
  22. If you want the tumbleweed effect at the forum drinks just try and tell someone you DONT read the socially acceptable "right on" Guardian. Once they have got over their initial hoprrified shock offer to buy them a drink to counter balance their immediate assertion that you are some kind of fascist right wing scum bag and not just a nice well balanced chap with moderate political views who just happens to shamelessly enjoy: - FT Weekend (every week) - News of the World - Observer / Sunday Times (I like both and yes this is allowed) - GQ
  23. Just think what the takings would be without Keef!
  24. Predictable one but noughties naughty property queen, Sarah Beeney still rings my bell. Curves, Frostrup-esque tones, kitchen advice and a nice pair of feet. Might seem odd but I once spent ten mins chatting to Joss Stone at a party about old delta blues records before noticing she had quite wonky big toes. She kind of had vulture feet where the right one looked like an old mans thumb. Really put me off.

Divide it by 3 and you're getting close.
