My brother is always amazed (in a good way) when he visits ED, to find that there isn't controlled parking. He can never park near his house in Cricklewood and has to pay a fortune every year to have a permit. It's a nightmare when anyone visits as he has to spend ages trying to purchase visitor passes from Brent's highly unreliable online service. The only people it serves are traffic wardens and the council's finance department.

I love the idea that people take part in a consultation in order to say "I don't know". Genuinely don't understand why people would want a CPZ. it's not like there will be any fewer cars. You don't get guaranteed parking outside your house - it just makes travelling anywhere more difficult, having guests more difficult and parking more expensive. personally, I don't think 23% response rate is good enough. Bear in mind that those pushing for a CPZ will all have taken part in the consultation, where as many of those happy with the status quo won't even have been aware of it, sot he results are almost certainly skewed in favour of the 'fors'.

Problem is, most of the rules aren't enforced - e.g. jumping lights, speeding down side roads, cutting corners and pulling out without looking. We just get speed bumps and the occasional camera. It would be good to get ACTUAL enforcement, by proper traffic police.

I support measures to reduce the precedent of cars, to slow traffic and improve the environment. The problem is, that will only work if at the same time, significant improvements are made to public / alternative transport. Otherwise no one is going to get anywhere.

The perpetrator is clearly deranged and needs to be caught as soon as possible. Very scary.

It's not about emissions, overall it's probably worse in terms of pollution and certainly all the speed bumps are. It's about reducing accidents and the seriousness of accidents, which is also important.

I wonder whether it's the same people you see driving around in balaclavas, doing wheelies etc.

It's a fairly regular thing on Heber Riad. Police seem unable to do anything to stop them

Wow, those prices are pretty steep. I remember the Great Exhibition had some fairly crazy prices when it opened which were later reduced. Maybe they'll follow suit in time.

Really depressing. I use that SO all the time. It was so convenient having it just round the corner. I can't help thinking that when Royal Mail start closing local facilities like this, that it's the beginning of terminal decline. With so many other providers who will deliver to your door at times when you're in, or offer to leave stuff with neighbours etc, who's going to continue to use RM to send packages?

New Zealand is a great place to drive. We bought a cheap car in Auckland, drove across the country and eventually sold it on for a small profit in Christchurch. If they're getting the ferry between he north and south island though, make sure they think ahead and book tickets in advance as I recall it was far from a turn up and go type affair. If they're in that part of the world and if they can, it's a great spring board for a visit to many SE Asian designations. Indonesia is really diverse and definitely worth exploring.

Sorry, cross posted with Miga, but yes, the reaction of the person on the recieving end of the 'attention' is absolutely key.

There is nothing sexist with a man (or woman) flirting. But when it becomes clear that one party isn't receptive, obviously feels uncomfortable and yet it continues, that's when there is an issue. Men also have to be sensitive to the fact that Women are often have to put up with repeated, unwanted attention and low level street harassment (much as I would like to pretend that I get wolf whistled at as a man, it isn't true) and so they are operating in a very different context.

Seems pretty shortsighted to me. If it becomes the norm that almost anything delivered recorded by RM ends up being returned to sender, more and more companies will stop using them.

If true, it's a real blow. I often visit the sorting office and I'm not alone (there is often a line). It basically means i won't be using them anymore, as they only deliver during the day (so effectively I always pick up recorded items from the SO).

The 2004 floods were indeed the result of a burst water main, so not related as far as I know. The works to ensure water gathers in the park was in response to some wealthy houses in the Village having their basements flooded and the inevitable lobbying of the council that ensued, I believe. Maybe James B can shed some light on the exact circumstances.

TImthink the point of the works was to ensure water gathered in the park. It seems to have been successful unfortunately
