  1. Considering the value of that property, it seems to me you'd be better off selling or leasing it to a commercial interest and reinvesting the money in some cheaper warehouse type deal for a food Bank? Doesn't seem like the type of thing which needs an expensive high street location, but I could be wrong.
  2. You should report it to the council before taking the drastic action of moving. If they're council tenants the may help.
  3. It is a really nice renovation, they have done the same thing on the ground floor too.
  4. Someone recently bought the house behind ours. Before they moved in the whole house was renovated, including a very high spec loft conversion with bifolding doors. Effectively the whole back of the top floor folds back / disappears. It looks great except that they have it open all the time and it looks straight down on to our garden. I don't feel relaxed being out there anymore. I know all loft conversions overlook their neighbours to some do degree, but there is a huge difference between some French doors and the whole top floor being completely open, floor to ceiling. Our gardens are very small so they really are right on top of us. Should we have been consulted on this? It's all a bit academic now I guess as the thing's built and I don't want to fall out with anyone, but would be interested to know what the regs are.
  5. The attitude of 'I am living in a place surrounded by other people so that excuses my taking no account of them',is perverse. In a city we have a much stronger responsibility to consider how our behaviour may impact those living in what is inevitably close proximity to us. If you don't like people enough to be considerate of them, move to the country yourself.
  6. That would be A M A Z I N G ! !
  7. Firstly, the boys did the right thing handing over their phones IMO. Secondly - I don?t get the need for young children to be carrying phones around with them ? which seems to be coming the norm (may not apply here as it sounds like the boys were older). We didn?t regularly get held up at knife point ?in my day? (a, long, long time ago!), but then we weren?t all carrying around several hundred pounds worth of easily pinchable kit everywhere. Schools should have a blanket ban on phones being brought onto their premises and parents should be encouraged not to give their children mobile phones IMO - It makes all kids the targets of amoral little tea leaves. That?s not to excuse the ruthless behaviour on those who?d steal from others, or to blame the victims. Never the less, I cringe when I see young kids casually flashing about an iPhones.
  8. Arrrh, so that's where it is. Not ideal, but at least it's a replacement Estate Agents rather than an entirely new one.
  9. Where is Jackson? Does seem ridiculous to have yet another estate agents.
  10. You should follow @banksyideas yeah? Well weapon.
  11. I saw two feet sticking out of a chimney on court lane.
  12. I recall a thread about the closure of Soupdragon which suggested the Leaseholder was raising their rent as the result of interest from (da, da, daaaa) 'The chains'. Of course, that could have just been a negotiating tactic on behalf of a greedy landlord, rather than anything substantial. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
  13. Bring on the ribs 'n beer.
  14. Are you sure that it's the same contractors advising as doing the actual felling? If correct, clearly a conflict of interest.
  15. oooh an estate agents would be great. Or and indian take away.
  16. I would recommnet getting an alarmed lock (one of the ones which detect movement). Get a cover and lock it. If they try to move anything, you should hear about it.
  17. It's an improvement in terms of function, without a doubt. In terms of the aethetics, I personally find it pretty offensive to the eye, but that is a matter of personal taste. The fact that the project was so poorly managed and allowed to overrun by more than a year is fairly unforgivable. I would be interested to know how much this overrun cost us. Perhaps some of the money could have been used to provide something a little easier on the eye. Like the idea of a cafe/waiting room.
  18. I don't get all the vitriol directed at Gardens Cafe on this forum. I've always found them really good.

  20. The improvements were funded by central government, through 'Access for All' monies I think. I'm not sure about the overruns, whether Department of Transport pick up those costs, but that would be my guess.
  21. I think the weekend is Swedish
  22. Get a spade under it and with a quick lift and whip motion, you should be able to clear the neighbours fence.
  23. Where did the driver stop on Lordship Lane? Two stops past Toasted?
  24. James - out of interest, do you know what the final cost comes in at?
