  1. I panic bought a coffee earlier.
  2. ...."it may not be possible to run the trains tomorrow, but even if it turns out that it is, we won't".
  3. Surely you only cancel the trains if and when it's necessary to do so. Its not the same thing as evacuating an area in advance of a likely disaster.
  4. Eh? They've cancelled the trains due to a possible future event?
  5. btw - anyone know when the Patch is due to open? Looking fairly close to completion
  6. I think ratty was saying that standards are higher outside the Capital no?
  7. 'Apparently' there is a problem... But there has not been even a rudimentary survey undertaken to confirm / quantify it. No one suggests that parking in a disabled bay when not entitled to is acceptable btw. That doesn't change the need for evidence based decision making.
  8. I think it's a good choice. Looking forward to seeing it.
  9. Where is the evidence that there is a problem? How many people currently use the car park for more than 4 hours at a time, or park in disabled bay, when they are not entitled to do so? Southwark are always creating 'solutions' to anecdotal problems. Before creating little cottage industries that swell an already stretched council bureaucracy, how about doing some proper ground work, to establish whether anything actually needs fixing?
  10. What is this in response to? Has a problem been identified and if so, how?
  11. "what is now called The Victoria Inn - or whatever they are calling it this week." ... to be fair, (at least as far as I can remember) that pub has only changed names once in at least the last decade.
  12. You can still find a decent period house for around ?250,000 - ?300,000 in South Norwood. Fast trains into town, connected to the overground etc.

  14. Rates will have to go up eventually. I get the sense that there are a lot of people stretching themselves financially just to afford a mortgage at 2-3%. When rates do rise there may be some significant problems. The ?help to buy? scheme (taxpayers underwriting mortgages with to those with only a 5% deposit) is madness. Of course, by the time the chickens come home to roost on that little wheeze, the elections will have passed.
  15. Is this it: http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/find/hayward-gallery-and-visual-arts/hayward-touring/future/jeremy-deller-curates-all-that-is-solid-melts-into-air
  16. ClareC - Where is it you have moved to?

  18. Sorry to hear about the loss of your buggy. Hope you get it back.
  19. Yes, I noted the ?3.95 printed on the cover. I assume that they are giving it away free to start with, in the hope that they can start charging once they have you 'hooked'. If so, I'm not sure it will be too successful a strategy.
  20. Is this thread about pavement cycling in ED, or cycling on the pavement in general (in which case Admin, please lounge it)? Can anyone honestly say that they regularly see people cycling on the pavement in ED? If so, please try and quantify it- weekly, monthly, once a year?
  21. Hi. Anyone know the outcome of the latest ofsted?
  22. Interesting to compare the responses to this thread against those regarding cycling on the pavements.
