  1. Some people will take anything that isn't nailed down. Maybe they should be nailed down. Feckers.

  3. Was the writing on your car, or on your BMW? ;-) I'm sorry you've fallen victim to such a mindless act of vandalism. There are some shtbags out there. Hope you get it fixed up ok.
  4. Unless I am reading it wrongly, isn't the proposal for an additional 6 flats (there already bring 2 in the existing development). I am not sure I buy the 'lots more people driving to M&S arguement. It sells convenience food - the type you might pick up on your wayhome.. its not the type of place you drive to for your weekly shop. Also, how much is the existing carpark actually used? Again, I would question how many cars are actually going to be displaced by its removal. As for arguements about brand snobbery, its all pretty irrelevant to the planning app and deeply subjective, so why bother going there. For me it comes down to whether or not the area can cope with an additinal 6 flats and the associated parking issues. My guess is M&S will end up compromising and reduce the number.
  5. The problem is two fold: The NHS is publicly funded through taxation which we are legally compelled to contribute to. Therefore I don't feel that it is right for that money to be extracted for private profit. This does not bar the use of different providers, competitive market competition, or some sort of incentivisation, but the principle ought to be one of reinvestment of profits / nonprofit. the local authority has a legal duty to provide these services, so should the service fail they (we) would pick up the bill. There is of course an arguement for properly privatising healthcare, but its not one I am in favour of. However, what I am particularly against are these publicly funded and underwritten 'private' companies claiming to be in anyway free market capitalism.
  6. @the-e-dealer No. Not sure what gave you that idea. The state subsidising private enterprises for the enrichment of a small elite sounds a bit 'commie' though.
  7. I just read the article in the Mail (linked to above). It does seem wrong to me that public services, paid for out of our taxes should be run for private gain and the enrichment of a few incredibly wealthy individuals. The fact that there seems to be a profit motive in all of this does also put the debate in a different light IMO.
  8. @sue You're right of course about a aself selection bias with regards online feedback, which favours negative reporting. I have plenty of personal experience with DMC however and I have plenty of friends who have similar complaints as I do with regards their booking system.
  9. Usually, DVD players have a small plastic clip, or similar on the bottom which allows you to release the drawer and get the disc out. Might want to check before taking the whole thing apart.
  10. @Sue - Speaking to others, reading the comments on the NHS Choices website and on this forum, about DMC, I suspect that you have been lucky in your experience of the surgery. Certainly I have struggled to get an appointment with them on the last two occasions I have tried and an emergency appointment is almost impossible unless you are on their doorstep at 8am.
  11. Maybe a liberal application of 'no more nails' on the bottom of your pots. Really shouldn't be needed though. I feel for you... it's really awful that everything must be tied down in order to be safe.

Is the 100 hrs a reference to how long you'll have to wait on the phone for an appointment?
  13. DMC are appallingly managed. See if you can get an appointment there within 2 days as they suggest you can on their website. Unless you queue from 8 outside the surgery, you're lucky to be seen in under 2 weeks.... yet they continue to register new patients. They really don't need to be expanding into new areas right now. Concentrate on sorting out the inefficiencies in their current operation. Good doctors, non-existent / terrible management. Maybe the nature of GP Consortia?
  14. nununoolio Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You could always pop > along to the new Burgess Park playground area for > a taste of what it could be like! ...Is the 'new' Burgess Park dodgy then? Was going to pop along to the playground with the kids this weekend.
  15. I believe the EDT is showing the opening ceremony. The road into Greenwich is pretty bad at the best of times and I guess there is likely to be Olympic Lanes in operation, so not sure how reliable the bus will be. You could get the train from Denmark Hill to Lewisham and then the DLR (or bus, cab or walk from there)?
  16. The level of demand for trains to Victoria from inner London areas is almost irrelevant. The rail companies are run for private profit and in the interests of shareholders (and for those passengers whose interests converge with them). In an unregulated market, the train companies would probably cut out stops at inner London stations altogether as they slow the profitable longer distance commuter services on which the companies largely rely for profits. Those commuters only making a couple of stops from within inner London don?t pay much and make the companies primary product less attractive. Thankfully, the market is regulated and a nominal service to these stations is mandated in contracts / licences. However, outside the terms of these agreements, the train companies are very unlikely to offer any additional services, regardless of demand. I would actually like to see a lot more of the lines which only serve inner London (such as the Wimbledon loop and south London line) handed over to tfl to be run in the interest of those living inside London (as with the London Overground).
  17. During rush hour, how many Victoria trains will run from Denmark hill after December? From the TFL website I cannot work out whether it will be 3 or 4. Does anyone know?

You can find information on crime levels here: http://maps.met.police.uk/ The 'heatmap' goes right down to subward level and if you click on the map you get information about how crime compares to London average (as well as the trend). East Dulwich ward has an 'average' crime rate for London and has dropped each year for the last few years.
  19. Crikey, that is worrying. Thoughts go out for the victim.
  20. I hate speedbumps and Southwark seems obsessed with installing them. I'm sure their proliferation in London has contributed to the commensurate increase in the number of ridiculous psuedo military vehicles on the roads. Anyway, that said, I think that this particular road (going through a park as it does), is one of the very few cases where speed bumps are probably justified. Southwark - just stop putting them everywhere else!
  21. Average for three bed house is more around the 500 mark. Still stupid money, but then so is everywhere else. There will either be a short term crashnor else a long term stagnation IMO
  22. I hadn't, but guess it's because of the school? Must get a lot of foot fall.
