  1. 'Apparently' there is a problem... But there has not been even a rudimentary survey undertaken to confirm / quantify it. No one suggests that parking in a disabled bay when not entitled to is acceptable btw. That doesn't change the need for evidence based decision making.
  2. I think it's a good choice. Looking forward to seeing it.
  3. Where is the evidence that there is a problem? How many people currently use the car park for more than 4 hours at a time, or park in disabled bay, when they are not entitled to do so? Southwark are always creating 'solutions' to anecdotal problems. Before creating little cottage industries that swell an already stretched council bureaucracy, how about doing some proper ground work, to establish whether anything actually needs fixing?
  4. What is this in response to? Has a problem been identified and if so, how?
  5. "what is now called The Victoria Inn - or whatever they are calling it this week." ... to be fair, (at least as far as I can remember) that pub has only changed names once in at least the last decade.
  6. You can still find a decent period house for around ?250,000 - ?300,000 in South Norwood. Fast trains into town, connected to the overground etc.

  8. Rates will have to go up eventually. I get the sense that there are a lot of people stretching themselves financially just to afford a mortgage at 2-3%. When rates do rise there may be some significant problems. The ?help to buy? scheme (taxpayers underwriting mortgages with to those with only a 5% deposit) is madness. Of course, by the time the chickens come home to roost on that little wheeze, the elections will have passed.

  12. Sorry to hear about the loss of your buggy. Hope you get it back.
  13. Yes, I noted the ?3.95 printed on the cover. I assume that they are giving it away free to start with, in the hope that they can start charging once they have you 'hooked'. If so, I'm not sure it will be too successful a strategy.
  14. Is this thread about pavement cycling in ED, or cycling on the pavement in general (in which case Admin, please lounge it)? Can anyone honestly say that they regularly see people cycling on the pavement in ED? If so, please try and quantify it- weekly, monthly, once a year?
  15. Hi. Anyone know the outcome of the latest ofsted?
  16. Interesting to compare the responses to this thread against those regarding cycling on the pavements.
  17. I've lived in this area a long time and I can honestly say that I have not seen people cycling along the pavement in ED. If they have been, then they have clearly been doing so carefully enough that I have not had reason to notice them. Whilst I agree that no one should be cycling along the pavement, I'm genuinely amazed that it is such a regular problem for some people on here.

  19. What is this right to be able to park a car in front of your house. Does this 'right' end with a car, or does it extend to a lorry, or a plane? Why is someone's ability to park a private vehicle on a public street a planning consideration?
  20. There is great 'helicopter stress' on my street. It is virtually impossible to land a chopper outside my house. I'm assuming that the planning office will take this into account when approving any new developments. More cars = more helicopter stress.
  21. Why should those living just off the high street having difficulties finding a parking space, be of consideration here? What right does a resident have to park outside their house when they don't own the land? Is owning a car a right and if so, does that right then confer upon you additional privileges with regards the exclusive use of public space?
