  1. A quick google search turned up this comment on the Camberwell Green station option and makes some interesting points (notably that it would serve twice as many destinations as LJ because of it's location on a branch of the line): http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33106 Maybe it's time to try and resurrect the campaign to reopen it?
  2. LJ is very close to both Brixton overground and tube. If it had to be a case of one or the other, IMO Southwark ought to have pushed for Camberwell Green. It's not remotely on the cards any more though. Boris is not too bothered about courting SE london votes - it's too much of a Labour stronghold - hence most of his South of the river transport plans are targeted at the 'bluer' SW postcodes. It would benefit the whole of SE to reduce congestion at Camberwell green. Even some Boris bikes would be an improvement.
  3. ... actually, I think it was opposed by Southwark Council
  4. Network Rail considered closing Loughborough Junction and replacing it with a (reopened) Station at Camberwell Green in 2007 - the platforms are still there, but little else. I think it was opposed by Lambeth Council and locals to LJ and so never happened. Here's the link (page 27): http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse%20documents/BusinessPlan2007/PDF/Route%202%20Brighton%20Main%20Line.pdf Personally, I was disappointed that this didn't happen - it would have made a lot of sense. 5. Very exciting. Please don't anyone start moaning about parking.
  6. If this happens, I can see lot's of Baroque painting fans milling about confused outside the Dulwich Picturehouse on Lordship Lane.
  7. Yep, Sue's right I think. Anyone got an electronic copy of the leaflet they could share?
  8. How's the training going?
  9. I believe that they got close to an agreement on reopening a few years back, but only if there was agreement to close Loughborough Junction. Personally, considering how close LJ is to Brixton tube and train station, out of the two there is a better argument for a Camberwell Green Station (although I'm not entirely sure why they couldn't keep both. Bakerloo line does already travel down as far as Burgess Park, although it's only used for turning trains I think. Sooner or later (definitely later), they will extend the Bakerloo line. The degree to which SE London's public transport provision keeps falling further and further behind the rest of the capital is a scandal. Even in terms of Cycle superhighways and Boris Bikes, we're a vacuum on the maps. 10. I really hope this comes off - would be great to have a cinema.
  11. It does seem strange how we have these huge rents being demanded at the same time that there are a number of empty properties. What happened to supply and demand?

  13. Because the kind of people who behave like this don't have very good judgement, impulse control or appreciation of the consequences of their own behaviour... and will know exactly where you live. 14. Definitely call the non-emergency number. Chances are those bikes won't be taxed and insured either.
  15. SE Trains have come bottom of table for customer satisfaction: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/feb/17/private-train-operators-passengers-dissatisfied
  16. OK, slightly overstated it with 'incredibly', it's not Tower Hamlets - but that said, it's been getting more diverse over the years rather than less (there is a far wider spread across the income bracket now than when it was predominantly working class). There is also a mix of housing sizes and tenures. It's probably a bit whiter than a lot of zone 2 areas, especially for SE London, but there are still a lot of different nationalities here. When I think of my immediate neighbours, they are all from pretty different backgrounds. The point is that from reading this forum you could get an impression that the area which I feel is unrepresentative. ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would say it's not incredibly diverse. 17. Or maybe the answer is not to buy, but continue renting.
  18. Bit of advice... Just because your satnav tells you to make a turn, you don't have to.
  19. None of this would be a problem if we had a Waitrose
  20. I blame the skateboarders
  21. Will nobody think of the parking stress!!!!! ;-)
  22. As many cyclists are also car drivers, pedestrians etc., at different given times, I think it's a reasonable assumption that the aggressive and rude cyclists are also likely to be aggressive and rude drivers / generally aggressive and rude individuals. There is no need to make this a thing about cyclists vs drivers. I walk a lot, but I don't identify myself in terms of some oppositional 'walker-non walker' dichotomy.
  23. I emailed Southwark about the barrier on Chandler Way and got the following response: "..Thank you for you enquiry in relating to the barrier on Chandler Way. The council is keen to encourage cycling and indeed this street has been identified as a potential route as part of the Mayor of London's plans to boost cycling. Developing the route would be a medium term objective, but in the shorter term we have a funding allocation in 14/15 for small interventions to improve network permeability across the borough for cyclists and I will add this to the list of possible projects to take forward in April."
