What a strange conspiracy theory Penguin. Perhaps this is Lewisham getting their own back on Southwark after the earlier changes that increased traffic on the Honor Oak Road farm track Except I am sure that Wood Vale is a road managed by Southwark. Issue is that most drivers cannot be trusted to drive at a sensible speed in urban areas. There are better ways of controlling speed as per my earlier post.

I haven't worked out how to attach links on the mobile version. That's enough to cause rage, but this is for the person on the ED part of the site upset about the price of vegetable juice. Very Easy Dulwich BTW 🙂

Where do we now go? Tandoori nights closing

Stepping up to a commercial kitchen is another thing. Make enough mess just doing food for the family. There was a nice thread on the Lounge about lockdown cooking where I spoke about my onion barjies. But there again anyone can make them better than the supermarkets -
Poo in the Park (and on the streets)
malumbu replied to TreforL's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Meant to say 40 years ago. Behaviour change prompted by the 'right thing to do' so bagging up the poo became the norm, similar to recycling your domestic waste. Never saw both 40 years ago, now most do. Have no idea if it has got worse again. Know many who bought rats, sorry small dogs, in recent years but the demographic is definitely those who pick it up. For those where a more aggressive dog is a sign of status doubt whether numbers have changed greatly. I'm trying to avoid stereotypes! -
Why rant here, you voted with your feet. Have you seen the price of cakes and coffee in the village... 🙂 Always surprised how few people check their bar bill, was shocked on a rare visit to the Dulwich Woodhouse. Well that plastic grass costs money to maintain. See what you have started? Fortunately there is a rant thread on the Lounge

Poo in the Park (and on the streets)
malumbu replied to TreforL's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just be grateful that the vast majority of owners do pick up poo, which wasn't the case say 49 years ago. Unless we move to a surveillance/police state it will never be 100 percent -
Cyclists could be made to have registration plates and insurance – report
malumbu replied to Rockets's topic in The Lounge
Trouble is the Guardian is preaching to the converted. Even Rocks knows that this is disproportionate to the risks that cyclists present. It's a non-story, I know enough people in government to confirm it ain't going to happen. Shapps is just trying to appeal to the mass of motorists and others seething with anger. He will be gone soon, heaven knows which nutter Truss will put in his place -

I'd planned to post recommending Babur (you need a heavy wallet) and Sparsh ( noting it is rich so not for every evening). Babur is more fine dining fusion and has been rated highly for decades (sure it was once in the top 10 Indian restaurants). Sparsh is actually run by people of Indian rather than Bangladeshi heritage and is so so different, and more interesting than the generic Indian which are the same across the country. I'm a vegetarian and a curry snob and make pretty decent ones myself. Karnataka is the best place to go but Assam is very different. Tamil Nadu just gets hotter, love the dosas and breakfasts. Kerala more coconut and cashew . Pretty decent in Uttar Pradesh. Sri Lanka flavours different, more mustard. Otherwise Tooting or Leicester (Birmingham balti has had its day). Now I am just showing off! Not all Indian states visited nor Pakistan or Bangladesh, noting the Pakistani sweet and savoury shops on Oxford Road, Reading, are brilliant and more authentic than most. Oh and curries on BA have been great, I used to specify Indian vegetarian when I flew more often in the past, I expect Heathrow being near Hounslow helped. -
Yonks ago I posted about the impact of earlier changes to Wood Vale and Underhill which should be the access to the South Circ. Right turns were no longer allowed ending up in a massive increase in traffic on Honor Oak Road, a farm track with a primary school on it Nobody on this site cared so I assume that most are only bothered about their own roads. The proposals may not be great although they could deter unecessary journeys, encourage active travel, car sharing and the like. Sadly we need leadership from central government including behaviour change re motorists and speed and average speed cameras rather than physical traffic calming. Not necessarily Tring to pick a fight with those already posting.

Most of the oil and gas fields are in dodgy parts of the globe. The US, Canada and Norway cannot supply all of the West. Said not in 2022 but at a course I went to in 1984 on the economics of nuclear power. I've banged on elsewhere about Thatcher and gas. Not a lot of help here but I can't stop reminding people.

malumbu replied to Rockets's topic in The Lounge
Middle England doesn't like cyclists, and this is stirred up by the media who paint them out as lycra warriors etc. The car lobby is also involved. The proposals are simply to appeal to these people. -
Had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Shannons, wont go into that and it was a useful place. There is that one next to North Dulwich station, I've rarely used it. The one at Nunhead is great, but maybe more expensive than Shannons. Penge they spend too much time talking to the newbies rather than serving people who have lived in the area for decades. Just my opinion!

I expect most posts are for people you liked or respected, who had done something good in life. I'm not going to trawl through them though.

It's a thread for remembering people that we were fond of. Start another thread by all means.

Rather bad taste.

Cyclists could be made to have registration plates and insurance – report
malumbu replied to Rockets's topic in The Lounge
Government has a commitment that everyone can have free cycle training. Sadly TfL is no longer funding this, as training is not ring fenced under their grant. We all know the shortages it is facing and Shapps using this as a political blunt instrument. So, so much for his commitment to cycle training. And no government would dare to compel drivers to have refresher training. Shame. Revenues from vehicle excuse duty have fallen as we move to low carbon vehicles. It's general taxation so can be made up from other sources eg booze and fags. -
Cyclists could be made to have registration plates and insurance – report
malumbu replied to Rockets's topic in The Lounge
For some reason my earlier post didn't go up. I'll try and summarise it This comes up every few years to appeal to the right wing of the Tory party/Mail etc. It's a non-runner, Peter Walker's article could have been Ghost written by me, Ex, DKH, RRR others. But not Spartacus (that's a bit of humour). Government cannot even introduce registration of electric scooters in their trial, how on earth would they do this with millions of pushbikes? There is no economic case If HMG did want to do something useful it's improved standards and training for all road users More cycling specific would be discouraging mobile phone use, and that could include scooters and pedestrians using roads. And discouraging cyclists on pavements, but that would mean other road users changing their behaviour in particular motorised vehicles, to be more amenable to sharing space Lots on these issues in the past on the Lounge -
Most discussions go off thread Joe. Not sure if you plan to intervene elsewhere. It worries me that people complain about this. It probably happens on other similar social media sites. Yes I know that I have now gone off thread and I am not inviting anyone to discuss this.🙂. More bothered when threads get moved to the Lounge, which can be a kiss of death, whilst it should be the right place for a broader discussion

Electric scooters are powered two wheelers Rocks so need to be licensed and insured. That's why they need registration plates. Disappointed that you haven't done your homework! -
Avoid all Ram pub chain, Clock, Woodhouse and beyond.

Boris Johnson moving to Dulwich Village? What have we done to deserve this? ;-)
malumbu replied to MrsR's topic in The Lounge
Tom and Nicole lived in the village - large house, ivy, large house ivy, large house, no ivy and security cameras. -
You can try the Rosendale in West Dulwich, less crowded than the Dog (C & G). One of the best places us the Barbur in Honour Oak, it will cost an arm and a leg and I expect the marquee is still up. Sparsh in Forest Hill is wonderful but small with no outside but worth it when weather gets cooler. Kartuli on LL us in my list of places to try. East Dulwich Tavern is good value

Surprised that most of you are using their given names - for the worst prime minister since McMillan and the PM who divided the nation. Obviously many of you are fond of them and Johnson will be very welcome. You can enjoy jolly anecdotes with him in the Great Exhibition -

The general view is that Thatch's house in West Dulwich (or Common, surely not the village) was bought due the proximity to the golf course - for hubby. But that she didn't realise they'd need to go through Brixton to get into town. May be total nonsense I know of at least one person who occasionally shouts Maggie Maggie Maggie, out out out, when they pass it -
Good idea. Sadly mist won't care
