Struth KK, I'm not ranting but not sure why you want to post on this thread. I thought it was a fair question about recommendations for pubs. This wasn't intended to be a should pubs be open discussion. I thought that I'd talk a bit about risk to show that I understand that having pubs open may not be a good thing. But similarly should supermarkets be open, restaurants, non-essential shops, public transport, galleries etc etc. Most would argue that they are doing the correct thing in minimising the chance of transmission. On 4th July I was adamant that I wouldn't rush to the pub but found myself visiting three on a cycle ride out. I was disappointed that two had very poor controls and I similarly stopped going to my favourite one for the same reason. I also stopped using the Forest Hill Road supermarket because social distancing was so poor. On a trip to Yorkshire and Cumbria the pubs were generally much better run. Anyway unless others have any views this thread has run its course.

Some useful info related to Southwark, traffic, LTNs etc
malumbu replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Southwark stuff sounds pretty rational to me. Try reading it again in the morning with a fresh perspective. There is a finite amount of air quality monitoring you can do. Local authorities have responsibilities under air quality legislation - I'm getting a bit rusty as I could have quoted them off the top of my head. This forum is often great place to discuss issues - particularly now pubs are places I'm not frequenting, but is not representative of the population as a whole, just those (including me) who shout loudest - although I may be better than many at seeing both sides of the argument. Funny when I post something that is relatively neutral and informative I generally get no comments. -
Odd demographic, loads of people in SE22 visiting local pubs but none post on this site. Thanks for all of you telling me what I can't do - I am a big girl/boy/whatever now and can make my own mind up. Perhaps you should get a placard and stand outside pubs singing onwards Christian Soldiers. Does come across as a bit smug..... I expect that pubs are contributing to the spread, in part as many will have difficulties in confirming whether people are in bubbles or not. But whether this is worse that those congregating on North Cross Road I don't know and I expect schools and those congregating at home are far more to blame. Brockey Brewery Tap sounds good, quiet, drafty and pizza too.

HELP, what are the rules about driving through Dul' Village
malumbu replied to peckhamside's topic in Roads & Transport
Probably better to walk in future, I expect that you had a good reason to drive but this is a good example of short car journeys we should be doing less of. -
Softer not soft Brexit - alignment with EU would have peed off the right but been more palatable for our key industries - tech, pharmaceutical, finance, automotive (they ARE screwed). But May's red lines and premature Article 50....
-
History will also tell. Could May have successively reached out to Labour? - never possible I expect with Corbyn. Would May's deal have been a better and softer alternative? - again back to Labour as she needed the allies. What would have happened if she hadn't foolishly gone for an election? Could Cameron, the architect of all this (possible/probable) disaster done any better - with no Plan B I expect before he called the referendum? This is not intended to be an attack on May I hasten to add.

Surely someone must have visited a put. What a weird demographic on this forum otherwise. Pubs off Lordship Lane all packed to social distancing capacity this lunch time

Surveys can be(not always) biased (I've commissioned my own): Do you want to save the planet - 95% people would say yes Will you do anything about it? - 95 % would say no. But the headline is most would say that most people want to save the planet. So why did you vote to leave (a) because you are racist (b) because you are a Little Englander © because you want sovereignty back I expect very little would admit to (a). It'd like the shy Tory/Trump supporter Having said all that I'm basing this on anecdotal evidence, ie middle England (little Englanders) and where I grew up (racist). Although I've got more on the latter judging from many I went to school with (who also hate Londoners, another reason to vote to leave). And all of this is seen through the lens of a metropolitan elitist (had to work hard to be accepted) so always good to hear the counter argument. Of the former friends I've lost one is a racist and little Englander combined, one couple are just barking mad (Green leavers) but I have to suffer my racist brother in law, ironically second generation Irish who voted Corbyn in then voted Tory at the last election - he has no political compass. But I do have mates who did vote leave for proper reasons.

HELP, what are the rules about driving through Dul' Village

We live on parallel universes DKH but enjoyed the insult (econazi) so have asked for the t-shirt for Xmas. -
Ah Snathi, you are the sort of person that we need to target then! What would it take to get you to cycle those 6 miles. Good on you for your honesty though. Uber get good utility out of the vehicles unlike most that are parked up most days. So good with respect to embedded carbon, not sure about the congestion side of things. There are political/social issues too ie pay and conditions. But probably better for the environment than 2 1/2 tonne black cabs, not sure how the new electric hybrid ones do on emissions. Always thought that we should scrap some regulations on Hackney cabs, but they, generally in the outer boroughs, are a strong lobby. Had very little bother with black cab drivers though, once they have done the knowledge (do they still go round on mopeds and the like doing this?)

Hi Cat, did you think it would be plane sailing? I expect most voting to leave didn't even consider this, and many was on the Little England/Johnny Foreigner is taking our jobs, filling our schools and abusing our NHS. That's not to say that many who voted to stay didn't put a lot of thought into it either, and didn't consider the benefits, few as I expect they are.
-
I posted an interesting article, Cat posted an alternative take, can others please actually join in the debate rather that site individual examples. I could talk about lots of racism that I have witnesses but would rather look at the big picture. Go on, indulge me please!
-
Yes whatever, but can we please go beyond Millwall, this can no doubt be applied to many fans as a whole.
-
Voting with your head not your heart. Not very British is it? There are many things awful about the EU but 4 1/2 years later it is still an awful decision.
-
Yep, sadly you are right but we've sort of lost this one. I've almost personally written off this year.

I drove to Barnes about 15 years ago. The South Circular was gridlocked. Clearly it was a mixture of cyclists and Southwark's fault. Nothing to do with a major accident on the M25. That's the way it feels to me. Many of you are becoming rather obsesses. Sorry to lob a grenade in but you seem to be beyond a rational discussion.
-
Great this is much more interesting. Although I am now becoming an agitator, like someone who provokes a mass brawl but runs away.

My OP referred to how much Millwall had done to engage the community and stop this sort of thing. None of us were at the match so how do we know if it was ten, 100 or a 1000 people? Near empty grounds are pretty echoey and the TV mics could distort the level of noise. Have a look at the article, I'm more interested in this than Millwall. And at least Millwall did not have a racist captain like Chelsea.

rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It is weird to hear people who want to make it easier to drive (which any way you cut it, results in more cars/ car journeys), using pollution as a justification for this position. If you just built more and more roads and made them bigger and bigger, so cars can travel faster - pollution would drop... Yeah right. In deed. Remember driving in the states for the first time - wide roads, often little traffic. The we hit Queens on a Sunday night and experienced grid lock on the way to the airport. Hmmm. The last time we were driving from New York to Connecticut up the I-95 in rush hour, with signs up saying 'hold ups for the next 95 miles' - a motorway sized road with junctions every two miles so people would use it to commute. Only in America I expect where car is king. We don't have the space, roads or low population density.

KK rather than questioning me give your views wny you wont be bothering. Pubs are going, so some people must be bothered. its time like these you almost miss the extreme reactions that some were posting during lockdown chastising those for stepping out of their houses.

He had an excellent opportunity to try to bring the country back together and tell the ERG where to go. He chose the dark side, not I expect that he actually believed in them. Just what was best for him. The sycophant [bill Cash] on newsnight on Thursday made things even worse referring to his book, and comparing to him Churchill. But I blame the party, and you out there who voted for him.

Let's just agree that we are both people of taste. I expect some younger posters wont understand..... > > 8 months? Ha! Yes we are all expecting this but should I get a pint in first, and where safe?
