Before I resort to the Lonley Planet and Trip Advisor it would be nice to hear your recommendations of where to stay (mid range, modest guest house type of place, convenient), and the highlights. Well some are quite obvious of course. It would be nice for some serious suggestions please.

Reason they are on for ?175 is because people will pay that much. That is capitalism for you; clearly we need a revolution and a centrally controlled economy. Bet it doesn't happen in North Korea. Having said that I hate Seatwave as they get round some of the anti-touting controls, more than I hate some of the bedroom e-bay touts (some admire these as enterprising young people). Back to Albarn, very talented and not half a tossa as that bloke with the cheese. Saw him in the Albarn show, aka The Good the Bad and the Queen, aka 'look at me I have the Clash in my band', the last but one night of the Hammersmith Palais. It was OK but full of trendies who were too busy looking at each other. The Fall rightly closed the Palais down the next evening. Certainly no posers there. Rivoli Ballroom would be the star of the show. For those disappointed at not seeing Albern, come along to to the Ivy (not THE Ivy of the Cheese man fame) on Saturday 8 March to see Dave Formula and the Finks PS I was one of the few private individuals who contributed to the Select Commitee investigation into ticket resale. This concluded that the secondary market is a good thing. I don't concur.

Disclaimer, this post is for amusement purposes only, please don't take it seriously. So, I read that sombies are now invading most of London. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/hideous-londoners-forced-to-travel-above-ground-2014020583280 Note, before I am corrected, troglodytes are not the same as zombies. Pretty similar though. Warning, for those of you with no sense of humour, please do not follow this thread as you will be confused, perhaps uncomfortable and feel the necessity to correct me, or even launch a counter-attack. That includes the staff at Lordship Lane Carpets.

Where the hell are you playing? All our boys matches (various Dulwich pitches) have been postponed since the New Year and we are training in standing water. No sign of it improving before spring. If you know of a good local pitch it would be great to know!

John Otway at the Ivy and a question about Carter USM
malumbu replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
No, he is clearly mad, in a nice way, and plays this very well. The show comes across as 'ad libbed' but as with every good comedy act it is very well rehearsed. Very entertaining. Him and Atilla had a dance mat if I remember correctly. There are some even better clips on Youtube of him doing "Beware of the Flowers" (B side to Really Free) live, with both him and WWB so hairy in those days. -
Do I really need to spell this out? It was a tongue in cheek post about people not looking out for cyclists, numerous young cyclists without lights, and selfish parkers.

Hope many of you saw the fine John Otway gig on Friday. For those of you who didn't, do check him out, more of a cabaret performer than rock artist. I saw Mr O afterwards and reminded him of the fantastic gig on a snowy February in 1991 at the New Cross Venue. Billy Bragg and the wonderfully named Atilla the Stockbroker were supporting an anti-war gig. Then came on a band that I had never heard of - Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine and the place went mad. I reminded Otway that he played with Atilla that night, but he couldn't remember and I may have just confused this with a number of other gigs I saw at the time. T'internet hasn't helped. They were often performing together at the time. Here's a more recent event Was anyone else in New Cross that evening almost 23 years ago?

Please take heed of this important message and take great care when in Rye Lane. I have noticed a plague of zombies. Most on foot, you can tell as they look gormless as they walk into the bike lane without looking. Not quite arms in the air, but quite brain dead believe you me. Some of the younger ones have a small pocket computer that they are either looking at, have plugged into their ear or are tapping on the screen. I assume that these ones are taking orders from the zombie general. A few have appropriated hybrid pushbikes. You can tell the difference from other cyclists as the bikes are normally in black, the zombies similarly dressed in black, and the bikes/riders have no illimuniation when it is the evening. As zombies are not living they don't fear collisons with other road users or pedestrians. I am not sure whether some also have cars. There are always loads parked on the double yellow lines, but this may just be normal human behaviour - I am sure both humans and zombies may not understand the highway code.

Good point for Liverpool today, And "regards" to all the Bluenoses I spoke to yesterday in my brief visit to said city and thanks for their well wishes. Sorry we didn't quite return the favour.

I noticed that all the mothers interviewed outside the school were on the large size. What do our yummy mummies think? I was encouraged to drink Ribena, then marketed as an health drink rather than containing 30% extra suger. And my teeth are mainly full of mercury.

I sprayed with an enamel aerosol. perfectly fine. Plasticote is a common brand. You could also use hammerite smoothrite.

Full of Brummie overspill and you have the odd mix of a slightly East Midlands accent with Brummie. Full of new housing estates - very cheap compared to here. A conference team who were in Division 2 at one point. Lots of speed traps and the A5 and M42 nearby. Excellent train links both locally and nationally and in some respect better connected than Brum. Large retail parks with KFCs McBollox etc and wacky warehouse Bernie inn places. You cockney winkers will need to pronounce your constanants as well - it is B I R M I N G H A M not Birminum Not particularly ethnically diverse but no doubt you will be told all about how dreadful romanies/Eastern Europeans are. So with all my middle class tosser prejudices I once spent an afternoon campaigning against UCI's now dropped development plans for the Crystal Palace site. Oddly I found families going to the afternoon films perfectly polite and friendly. Oh Julian Cope is from there so that can't be a bad thing
-
Disappointed. I assumed that this was a thread for middle class tossers like me to congregate. Obviously we have lots of middle class tosser venues to meet up in on and off Lordship Lane. Perhaps we could have our own social networking site so we wouldn't have to mix with some of you oinks. Or alternatively just relable this site as .middleclasstosser.co.uk - I am sure most of us will fit the bill Just checked, nobody has that domain name yet.

Insurance companies and writing off old cars advice wanted
malumbu replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Try here - he does insurance jobs and insurance write-offs. And it will also put 'Sun in the Sands' on your map, ie the place that the traffic jams always seem to start on the A2 http://www.192.com/atoz/business/london-se3/car-body-repairers/blackheath-sun-lane-garage/1dbd4cd4929fb9195c18af582a1e38c4fc19ff98/ml/ -

I've been to three matches over the festive season, and seen a few more over the last few weeks on telly. Some real crackers but the two stinkers were the Arse/Chel (on telly) and today Arse/Cardiff, as well as getting wet as the roof is rubbish. Is the quality of the Arse overated? or was that just an anomoly, perhaps in part due to the weather which was awful on both days A second Arse question is as there are always thousands of empty (paid for tickets), a waiting list for season tickets, and they can in theory attract more than the ?60k capacity, why don't those not attending because they can't be arsed to leave their mansion in Herts to see a less attractive match on a rainy day, pass on their ticket to someone who does want to make the effort. I am not talking full price on Seatwave I hasten to add -better is used than wasted. Oh and a fun anacdote now I will no longer be suprised by the ManU score as I was trying to watch it 'live' on MOTD, at WHL the only cheer on Boxing Day from the Spuds was when it was announced that WHU had gone one-nil up. Funnily enough they didn't announce 1-1, 1-2, 1-3. All credit to the Bluebird fans today for the noise they made BTW.

What makes a good outing with colleagues at Xmas? To be honnest I've probably enjoyed as many as I haven't. Too old now to get seriously drunk and be embarrassing, but it can't just be down to age. I generally enjoy my colleagues company so it isn't a personal thing. I'd be interested in others' experiences at this time of year.

On my cycle home quite late tonight I saw a number of cars with deffective lights, (one was quite spectacuar with one headlight too high and one too low), a number who couldn't be bothered to signal, a number of bikes with good lights, some rubbish (eg too high, too low, or those daft small single trendy lights) and only one with no lights but that was because bike traffic was quite low. I happily cycled through the lights at the Rye, because there was absolutely no traffic there (wont do this at normal times of the day). A normal day really. What am I trying to say? I always post that most cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers are reasonable/decent. We aren't going to get a lot of enforcement from the authorities to change the behaviour of others, so I suppose should continue to make the right noises, and not get involved in petty verbal fights as is too often seen on this site. Sorry this does sound a bit pompous. But I went to a dull Xmas party, a crown fell out and I can't even be criticised for drinking too much.

Now that would be good, we could plumb the depths of some of our Euro song entries. Something that would have been very apt is 'Rock Bottom' in 1977 sung by Farah Fawcett Majors and fomer Radio 1 DJ Mike Read. The UFO heavy rock version would also be fun. Love the tune I vow to me... but it remindes me of elitism, only because it featured in the film 'Another Country'.

Ah, got me there, didn't see that one coming JL. To correct myself. What a boring subject, not what a boring thread. As my heart bleeds for all you cockerney reds I couldn't resist posting. But as someone who has watched the game for forty years the Mancs will come good again, as I hate to say will Leeds one day. Actually makes football far more interesting.

Yes, in deed, I have made my mind up, the person is a perfectionist. That brings with it a lot of positive traits. But I want advice on how to manage said person and get them to broaden their horizons rather than focusing at times on doing things to 120% whilst the workload mounts up. A list of bullet points on a page if fine for a brief report, it doesn't need to be beautifully formatted and then consulted on before rewriting. But if I say that it looks like I am being negative, and if I say 'lets think about how we can raise our profile' it is read as 'I am failing'. Which the person is not.
-
Any views about how to manage someone who cannot see the wood from the trees as no one else can meet the individual's own high standards? Have a serious meeting with the individual and their trade union on Monday. Obviously I should consult with the sales staff of Lordship Lane Carpets first, and the perfectionist must have a problem in being managed by a knobhead like me. But serious suggestions appreciated. Got some good stuff by simply Googling the title of the thread.

Hmm, lovely post. What school of charm did you go do? I post something slightly facetious and you post something offensive. Or perhaps I don't quite get your humour.

I've never liked our dirge which is all about us saying how much we like our monarch and hate the Scots. Other national anthems, or suggestions such as Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory, are too xenophobic for my liking. And I far more enjoyed the 1970's when we booed the anthem (happy to cry at Abide with me any day). Happy to drop a bomb on that bladdy Sheffield Wednesday band that play at England games. I do like Flower of Scotland, and some alternatives for other coutries such as Waltzing Matilda and Molly Malone. But the one that really stirs me is Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika. I am writing to my MP asking for GB/UK to adopt this. Anyone else with me?
