What a cock-up Spent 3 years working on planning for fuel shortages. Rule number 1, keep ministers out of it. Rule number 2, if you say anything, get someone who represents the consumer and reinforce normal buying habits. Well it is not corrosion, or by the sound of things a leak (thought it could be the pump sucking air in) but some sort of over-pressure (in an unpressured system). The Lotomil didn't help. Still brown water and turned the heating off (brrrr) Suggestions that the chemical flusing may have led to debris that blocked the inlet to the central heating circuit. Man round tomorrow, who tried to advise me over the phone, but on this occasion time to get someone in.

The upstairs rads are not pumped. They rely on the natural circualtion of hot water. It used to be a common way of doing things, honest! Why it wasn't changed to a pumped system throughout when an extension was added 25 years ago I haven't a clue. I also inherited home plumbed gas fittings (boom boom as Basil Brush would say) and similarly interesting wiring. National Grid were called in twice to make the former safe. So there is not a lot of pressure when the CH is working, and the flushing was not done under pressure so I can't see how that would have changed things either. Some pumps suck rather than blow (oooh Mrs), so can suck air into the system. But as said my system is not pumped. The only way I can see my situation happening is by a sudden and rapid increase of corrosion in the system. I've not found anything on line that is specific to my system (lots on similar situations with more modern CH). I can see that this issue is really attracting interest in ED!

Looking back it was hardly revolutionary, just a nice catchy pop song. But then anything slightly different was classed as New Wave. My water's all brown. See a doctor? It is the cold water from the tank. The central heating header has overflowed into the main cold water tank depositing some nice brown rust into it. Over the last day the upstairs rads have become full of air (well actually hydrogen). Yep I will bleed the system add inhibitor etc. I used a chemical flush a couple of months ago to decrud the rads and pipes. Question I have is why have I suddenly got so much air in the system? Enough to push water up into the header tank till it overflows? No it is not the pump. No it is not the boiler. It is a DIY fitted system (not me I hasten to add) and has always needed care and attention as heaven knows if the idiot who once owned the house had any ideas of properly installing new pipe work (ie to reduce liklihood of air traps etc). I am fortunate enough to know a plumber who often tells me how to fix stuff rather than come round and charge me for doing like. Just interested to know if out there amongst you geeks and neeks, there may be some real men (and ladies) who can give me some good advice.

Funnily enough the old Routemaster was almost redudant the day it went into production. They had to stretch the original version and then when single operator buses came on the scene it appeared uncompetitive. They were phasing them out forty years before they actually ended, but I believe that their reliability and simplicity were their saving grace. Sad to report that some Hooray Henry's were mischievous at Dulwich Hamlet FC on Friday. The good folks of East Dulwich were unprepared for the toffs in a scene that echoed an Oxbridge May Ball. The Champagne Charlies appeared to have had one too many Pimms and decided to let everyone know in no uncertain terms of how lucky the audience were that the ruling classes had decided to mix with the common people that evening. Great credit to the steward and organisers for telling them to politely STFU. The cad's then got angry with some unfortunate couple in the car park telling them that they were so rich that they could pay for the couple to disappear without trace. Well they had already got away with the murder of JFK. Perhaps some of the bounders are reading this. Does this prick your conscience and did you wake up questioning why you had made idiots of yourselves? Or has any normal human emotion been bred our generations ago.

I've had dreadful problems with a Samsung. Amazon sent me a replacement but that is going back as well. Not great dealing with Amazon as they can hardly come out to help. It seems to be incompatible software and/or router (both on the macbook and PC). About a fifth of Amazon purchasers recorded similar problems in getting it to work wireless. There are lots of solutions on the web, but (a) I couldn't get them to work (b) why should I fart around with something that should be plug in and play © I did not want to pay an IT person to fix it, also knowing that it would probably fail again. I've now looked at HP and other printers and there always seems to be a fairly large number who can't get them to work wireless. Now to show I am not a total idiot the PS3 and Kindle worked almost straight away, and we run two PCs and a mac book wireless. Shame as the hardware was good. So it is back to my 8 year old slow, expensive (in terms of ink) but reliable HP Inkjet. Any recommendations of supplier and make? Happy to spend an extra 20% to get technical back-up compared to Amazon.

How are we supposed to judge whether supply and demand, and effective competition is working? They were totally unhelpful outside the Forest Hill Tavern tonight so not a good start or bech mark. But with so many outlets selling them surely we can shop around and get a deal. And with the recession (OK East Dulwich is immune to such things) demand, and hence price, should come down. Also interested how many of these outlets are legit!
