London is becoming more and more Big Brother like, under the Orwellian control of Ken L. People seem to be misunderstanding me - I AM AGAINST LITTER! All I am saying is that the fine is TOO STEEP! I would have understood a spot fine system, but the reason people get so irriated is that it just simply doesn't add up. I refer again to the fact that speeding and running red lights are potentially fatal, but carry a lower fine. I love ED and want it to stay clean, I really do. I was actually stopped in Bromley for dropping a napkin by accident - I had to chase it all the way up the high street (leaving my meal), to avoid a fine. Do we want ED this way? Is there not a happy medium?

Haven't been mugged yet, but have experience very threatening behaviour on ED Road (involving a knife). I generally feel very safe in the area. However, I know several people who don't feel safe around the roads by the station.

Once again the point has been missed. What I don't like is the fact I was singled out, on a street FULL OF SMOKERS - e.g. the guys opposite. If you are going to fine me, do it, but don't just walk past other offenders! It is clear he was nervous as he was stuttering. If they want to put these baffoons on the street then they can't pick and choose who to fine. Surely a rule is a rule if we want to stop the littering? No, instead they pick on a guy on his own on his mobile. Easy target, unlikely to react badly. I think they may be in for a shock soon - one of these days they will get nutted!

Mark - I agree with Gerry. Some of us can think outside the box. My friend has been picked on THREE TIMES this week trying to walk from the bus stop to her house (about a 10 min walk). She has spoken to the police who seem totally disinterested. It just made me think that effort is being put into the wrong thing. For example, has the council thought about doing something to calm down the traffic on LL, or will they wait until someone is run down? Have they confronted the kids that loiter outside the newsagent by the playground on ED road - where I was treatened with a knife after refusing to give a kid 50p!!

Andyng - Very clever - shall we fine everyone ?75 then? Or maybe it will be a good idea for the fine to reflect the crime? We don't need these dim wits going round reading people their rights like they are armed robbers. Waste of tax payers money. They were obviously not very bright individuals and it winds me up that they get paid MORE THAN TRAINEE NURSES!

McSporran - Missing the point. These fools would not appraoch groups at the pub who drop millions of fag ends as they are basically little weazles who are drunk with power. They need to provide places to get rid of fag ends - was i meant to trail up and down LL until I found a bin with an ashtray on a freezing night? No.

I used to smoke 40 fags a day and only have the odd cigar - just my luck!

What annoyed me was the bin nearest to me DIDN'T have an ashtray. Also, they are hardly easy to see are they? What was so irritating is a bunch of blokes were accross the road chain smoking and slinging their butts - I guess the little weazle was too scared of them!
