  1. Pechkam Rose - you think ?75 is what the fine should be for dropping a cigar then? How do you justify this amount?
  2. Ok, ok people have got me all wrong. I agree with fining people for littering the streets. A ?10 spot fine, for example, would be a good deterrent. However, ?75? My sister was fine ?60 for running a red light, which is potentially fatal? I think the punishment should fit the crime, don't you?
  3. I was standing outside Sommerfield yesterday and was having a cigar, waiting for my sister. Two men approached me in a rather sheepish fashion, wearing long red coats and brandishing pads. I thought they were from the Salvation Army, and were asking for a donation. Instead, I was told I was in violation of a particular code, read my rights, and handed a 75 POUND FINE. I asked the man, 'where should I put out my cigar?' He pointed to the bins saying they had ashtrays on top. Some do, I agree, but the one near me did not, and I have taken a picture on my phone as proof. He made it quite clear that if I contest this I will probably lose and end up more out of pocket. I am furious with the whole ordeal - are these guys really necessary in our area? I assume they are being paid around ?16,000 which is just a joke. I want to contest this, but am not sure who to contact really?
  4. Yeah they like the light! They are foul aren't they? And they BITE!
  5. It is - they are little sods and love the heat. DON'T pay over the odds with pest control. I only got it because the letting agents paid. You can get rid of them with something like Window Cleaner sprayed onto them according to the dudes who came round to mine.
  6. The pest guys sprayed some weird coloured liquid on them. They have never returned! The lettings agents sorted it, after A LOT of calling and hounding. Apparently, these little sods don't come under 'pests'.
  7. Oh my GOD! When I moved into my house each room was filled with these pests in the corner of the window. They are dark and don't look like normal ladybirds. The pest control guy said they are foreign and eat the British ones! They way they nest is utterly revolting. I threw a shoe at the nest and they flew around the room like something out of a Hitchcock movie!
  8. Nice on MadWorld74. I agree, these little brats think that shouting abuse counts for nothing. It is so unpleasant!
  9. You see people passed out outside the EDT at 7am on a monday morning (yes, happened last week)!
  10. Jimbo - sounds like it! Ha ha! Thought I was the only one it liked!
  11. I have seen them at around 7.30-8.30 at night....
  12. Oh right - I may have a look at the posters to see if it is him/her. Thanks
  13. Next friday? Is that the next forum drinks?
  14. A stunning ginger/tabby cat on the Ryedale area keeps coming into my house! I left the back door open to get some fresh air the other day, and when I went up into the bedroom - there it was on the bed! I don't mind, since I love cats, but it did not seem to have a collar so was interested to know if it belonged to someone. She/he doesn't look very thin, so I was assuming it was being looked after! Anyway, the cute thing waits outside the backdoor everyday at the same time I come home from work!
  15. Yes I think it is the same! I can't stand it when people go in groups - so spineless!
  16. It just winds me up because I go out of my way to make sure everything is put in the easiest place for them. One of my bins must have ripped when they moved it and they left rancid MEAT on my pathway. Great way to encourage rats!
  17. I see them loitering regularly at the bus stop opposite Co-Op. One of them wears a white puffa jacket thing. They travel as a three normally, and are quite loud. My sister was quite shaken up recently as they seemed to wait outside the Co-Op for her and follow her home. Luckily she called me and I met her there.
  18. I am not sure if it only me, but the rubbish collectors and recycling collectors seem to leave my entrance area in an absolute state: bins left in the way, half my recycling on the floor. I thought it was a one off, but it happens a lot. I saw trails of rubbish all over the road the other day. I find it quite offensive - we try and do our bit and they end up leaving our recycling in the road! When I quizzed the guy the other day he just replied, 'Ain't my problem mate, got too many houses to do'. Great!
  19. Si Mangia is great! It is very reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very nice too. I wouldn't say it is the best food in the world, but cheap and cheerfull if you ask me!
  20. I agree Joss. It is such a nice area, opposite the park etc etc, that it is a shame to see it go to ruin!
  21. Nero - I have given up complaining as all my threads get taken off!
  22. Nero - I hear you! It is a few places that let the side down. The betting shop is God awful!
  23. I regularly have dog shite on the pavement near my house. Maybe some people in ED think they are too good to clean it up?! No excuse considering the numerous dog waste bins that have been provided. Also, dog mess is very dangerous for kids etc if the dogs have not been wormed - sort it out!
  24. I use them regularly now and think they are so friendly. It is a tad overpriced in there (but you can't beat their ?2.99 Cape Red wine!), but one assistant in particular is really chatty and nice. All that has to be done now is make the rest of the parade of shops look semi-presentable!
