  1. @Abe, some work I did previously shows how far the coaches come to Dulwich. These are not "local" schools ... /forum/file.php?5,file=342720
  2. Alleyns has more than once obtained permission to develop land which is designated MOL e.g. the theatre
  3. Rather than leaping straight to closing roads (and wasting all that money spent on Calton Ave / Dulwich Village junction), we should at first try making it impossible for pupils to drive to school (this is definitely a thing). And then stop parents driving to drop off, possibly via timed and policed red routes or parking restrictions to stop parents dropping off.
  4. I'm reminded of the time they closed Loughborough Junction. That was a disaster.
  5. Serena - not sure there is any room on Townley Road for additional traffic. It's bumper to bumper during school rush hour
  6. The big problem with transport in this area is lack of East-West routes due to both geography (hills) and history (the estate). Closing one of these routes is not going to help and doesn't address _why_ people are driving. Edited to add: the other problem with transport in this area is non-local pupils and (to a lesser extent) non-local teachers and employees.
  7. This looks like a complete waste of money and time.
  8. There seems to have been a load of waste dumped on Greendale on Tuesday evening. Very sad.
  9. I think this is the document DadOf4 is referring to. Not sure what Maxted Rd has to do with anything. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/files/3BB4397FE784FEEEA087924C56A16891/pdf/19_AP_5616--830588.pdf
  10. Not sure the noise of the parakeets can be likened to the song of a blackbird or robin.
  11. I found this recently - Penny Farthing Race at Herne Hill in 1928. Is the footage speeded up or were their legs really moving that fast?
  12. hi pete, the plaque is for the bomb on Dovercourt Rd - https://www.dulwichsociety.com/journal-archive/97-2013-autumn/915-dulwich-world-war-ii-commemorative-plaques. I was there when they unveiled it - a slightly odd experience as I was just walking past with my three kids I'm interested if a bomb dropped on the grounds - never seen this mentioned anywhere else
  13. Does anyone know any more about this bomb on Townley Road? http://bombsight.org/bombs/13091/
  14. Paul, no need to be so aggressive. I do struggle to understand why ?20k per week is not enough for DHFC or, to put another way, what would be enough. I've not attended public meetings though I have read most of the planning documents. I don't think any of them address exactly why we should let a property developer have a windfall profit (about ?20m, according to Savils) through the building on metropolitan open land. This has already happened in a very similar way in 1992. Plus ca change ...
  15. Like all football clubs, I would expect DHFC to spend whatever money it has so it is unlikely to ever be 'profitable', but I can see no reason why a club that brings in c. ?20k for each home game should go bankrupt, other than via fraud or rapacious landlords. Best way for Southwark to assure the future of DHFC is to affirm that the existing restrictions on the site will continue to be applied i.e. that it can only be used for sporting or social purposes. Meadow will eventually get the message.
  16. http://theparkhillgroup.com/portfolio/8-esph.html Parkhill appear not to know what they own
  17. Anyone know of any shops near here selling fireworks now?
  18. @Alice, I don't think the strength of state schools is why Alleyn's takes pupils from across London. I think, like St Paul's or other similar top tier schools, Alleyn's finds this to be the most effective way of finding the most academically capable students which will keep its place at or near the top of the A-levels league tables.
  19. I am amazed how far kids travel to come to Alleyn's / JAGS. The pollution would definitely be better if the school was more skewed to local children.
  20. This is interesting: the route map for the coaches for the foundation schools https://www.dulwich.org.uk/uploaded/documents/Coach_Service/Foundation_Schools_Coach_Service_map.pdf I had a go at putting this onto a map - just shows how far away the local schools cast their nets.
  21. why paint a house dark grey?
  22. The two biggest problems in the area are (a) crossing the south circular at the Grove and (b) crossing the junction of East Dulwich Grove and Lordship Lane everything else is pretty peripheral
  23. Although I'm pretty cynical about this, to be fair, I've recently seen the Townley Road spaces more than half used in the evenings.
  24. I'm putting forward a vote for Tower Bridge. Aside from the half mile stretch of Tower Bridge Rd over the bridge itself, the rest of the route is dedicated or off-road cycle paths. I particularly enjoyed watching the seasons change along Surrey Canal Path, with May being my favourite.
