Just got back to my desk having seen them overhead in Hyde Park - never seen them before - quite chuffed.

They want to expand both floors - build a two story extension.

Sorry thought that was the April Fool! Perhaps its to protect her from workmen ogling her and calling her love!

I have heard that the Mexican restaurant wants to expand on both the ground and first floors - which seems strange as it is never busy enough to need that kind of expansion. It would appear that the restaurant has been sold/will be sold to a restaurant chain based in Sydenham(?). I may got my wires crossed - does anyone have any more information?

Have been left property abroad by an aunt advice
Cassius replied to LizzygotDizzy's topic in The Lounge
Hi I know nothing about Canada but would like to say - go for it. If you keep your London property on what have you got to lose apart from the opportunity to do something different. After all, what is the worse case scenario - that you go there and hate it, you can always come back, however if you don't go, you will always wonder whether or not you would have been happier there than here. I'd recommend getting the best legal/financial advice you can afford - thinking about all sorts of aspects - ie would you be taxed in both the UK and Canada for your rental income etc etc. If you don;t like it you could then consider selling the house and maybe buying your property in London outright - think what a fantastic life you could have here without a mortgage - maybe work part time..... just random thoughts so apologies if they are not applicable to you. -
closure to post office in Melbourne grove
Cassius replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a post office in the village which isn't too busy - not a real alternative but if you were going that way anyway... -
My partner took me to the Ritz for lunch as a birthday treat - we were treated with the utmost courtesy from Head Waiter downwards. I agree with Muttley: real class is having good manners not snootiness.

mmm since I last posted just got quarterly bill from npower and it is ?250!! about ?100 more than the equivalent quarter last year! I was expecting it to be higher (weren't some areas going to get a 25% hike in prices?) but I am still shocked it is over ?200. I also noticed that the important information on the bill such as the meter reading etc was now in very very small writing and far harder to understand!

Ok - we have a 3/4 bedroomed terrace and I pay ?25/month electricity all year round and about ?150/quarter gas in winter and ?50 in summer but not had bills since the gas went up. However we are both out during the day during the week and tend to have heating on in the whole house for 1 hour in the morning and 3 in the evening and other than that, like other suggestions we heat the room we are in. Obviously that is not a solution with a small baby but gives you some idea of comparison.

Lusted after Gene - he's overweight and got bad skin....... each to their own I guess and I'll have Johnny Depp.

Nope - I thought it got worse and worse and last week was one of the most excruciating programmes I've seen for ages. I kmow it's Easter but all this resurrecting characters to fit the plot (Shaz here and Owen in Torchwood) is just lazy scriptwriting. I will watch the last episode tonight because I've got this far but don't think I'd bother to watch another series.

parking ticket on LL, ?120 ...

Surely if we all had to park our horses and carts they would take up as much room if not more than cars? (although they might bite the parking attendents if they tried to put a ticket on the cart)! Plus the mess/methane produced by natural horsey functions.... -

Would you like to tell me how say a carpet fitter will be able to do his job without a van, or a plumber, or a decorator? We did manage without cars for several millennia, but people tended to live and work within a very small area - even the next town was considered to be a long way away. Their families were often only a couple of roads or perhaps miles away - things have changed irrevocably since then. > > -
Johnny Depp looks good with a beard - can't think of anyone that does (not even George Clooney can carry it off)

Turkish is a particularly difficult language to learn, and pronunciation can be tricky. Verbs, subjects and objects of sentences are all added onto one word (there is a word for it but I can't remember it!) If you could do an evening class it might be more helpful at least to start with, and then when you have the basics then carry on with an online course.

Do you introduce yourself as your real name/forum name or both?

Best pub for me was the Banner Cross in Torquay as it was where I hung out when young. There was simply a wonderful mix of people there, punks, goths, bikers, (even a couple of suits), everyone got on well, the landlord Alan was marvellous and it was more an institution than a pub. I can't remember what I drank there, and I am pretty sure that it didn't do food - but that just didn't matter. I celebrated my 18th and my 21st in there and when it closed it was a very sad day indeed. It is now commonly called the Hope and Grope and if you are ever in Torquay I suggest you give it a wide berth.

I don't know if you can bear the thought of 2nd hand shoes, but if you can then you can 'upgrade' to really good shoes which are so well made and well balanced the heels are easier to cope with. I hate heels but I got a pair of Manolo's for ?10 in the Portobello road and they are THE most comfortable shoes with heels I have ever worn. Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense but I hope you know what I mean.
