  1. Agree gum is vile - so is gobbing in the street.
  2. Home made pasta, fresh breads - sounds wonderful.......... Will def be worth a try anyway.

I don't know if it makes you more or less pretentious but it certainly means I share your taste.
  4. I don't have a car at all but if the person who owns the DB7 parked on Melbourne Grove would like to take me for a spin.....

    The Vale

Two posts from john paul in a month. Both of them praise The Vale. Am I becoming cynical.......
  6. My favourite is the Mirgh Masala in Norbury - Pakistani canteen - cheap, cheerful and BYO. Used to love the Curry Cabin many moons ago........
  7. Perhaps they should have opened a branch of Cafe Nero AT the Livesey.
  8. It has got a lot more commercial in the past few years though. It used to be a card and a bunch of flowers, but now restaurants are booked up as soon as Valentines Day is over, the prices are hiked up, and there are even sections in newspapers with purchase suggestions.
  9. Well - I know this sounds soppy but my mother always said that she would rather KNOW that she is loved 365 days a year than be SHOWN on one particular day. I understand what Asset and mightroar are getting at, but I do think some of the most generous gift-givers are guilty of ignoring their mothers for 364 days and are trying to make up for it. And for the record I always buy a card (and one for my step-mother).

  11. Emily Wrote: The people on this site with a > visceral, irrational hatred of children and > businesses, would hate it regardless of planning > laws. What on earth does liking children or not have to do with this argument or is it just a random rant? I don't have children and I don't use Cafe Nero but the two things are not linked.
  12. Well this is one place that a cigar butt would hardly be noticed!
  13. There's a bin outside ED station to take the freebie newspapers - by 6.00ish it is full and rather than take their papers home I see people just drop them on the ground by the bin. Maybe these community officers could come here and fine people for doing that - I reckon they'd make loads of money!

  15. I'm five foot three and weigh 8 stone! They scare the sh!t out of me! They are bigger than me by the time they are about 10! When I was that age I had better things to do with my time than sitting on the bus with a load of mates making threatening noises! (although I do remember a conker or two being chucked from the bus in the direction of policemen..........)
  16. I think littering is a foul filthy habit, but appreciate that a cigar butt is not the sort of thing one can put in ones pocket to take home to dispose of at a later date. I think ?75 is a bit steep, however as a deterrant..... Can these Community Officer people approach dog owners who do not clear their doggies do's after them - I'd be happy to see them fined. I'd also like it if they fined the people who throw all their rubbish into my front garden - perhaps I could have a percentage of the fine to make up for having to clear it up on a regular basis.
  17. Lived in London 25 years and in ED for 21 - was mugged in Elephant and Castle about 8 years ago - a very frightening and painful experience and I have to admit that I avoided E&C afterwards at night for a while - but you can't let it change your behaviour otherwise they've won. Did feel very frightened on a 63 bus one Sunday afternoon last summer when about 20 kids about 13-15 got on and basically talked loudly about what they would like to do to the likes of me (white, middle aged, reading a book!!) but I ignored them rather than let them know that they had succeeded in scaring me. I think ED feels safer now than 20 years ago - there are more people around at night.
  18. Green Cuisine - pasta makers same price more or less than John Lewis, no pasta makers at Divertimenti in Marylebone. One is a 5 minute walk - the other a tube/train/10 minute walk and pasta makers are surprisingly heavy!

I felt that as the English words were so unfair to women then perhaps we could get a bit of balance by using the Italian!
  22. In Italian an unmarried woman is a 'nubile' and an unmarried man is a 'celibe' - perhaps we ought to use those words instead!

Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- There's an American thing called > Dexter starting on ITV on Wednesday night. I've > not seen it, but heard good things. A friend of mine watched Dexter on Sky last year and said it was brilliant - a forensic scientist who is a serial killer in a vigilante sort of way!
  24. My partner and I are intending to go on a long weekend in Normandy at the end of March. I'm not too impressed by the hotels in Dunquerke itself, and the only other place I know is St Omer. What we are looking for is a bit of real France, not more than an hour away from Dunquerke, with some interesting bars and restaurants. Any suggestions please.
  25. True *Bob* very true - I should have said I don't make purchases on the internet!
