I think the Sunday veggie lunch at the Nun's Head is good. Although some people might think veggie nut roast is a cop-out I much prefer it to veggie sausages and mash. I am not a pure enough veggie to ask if the gravy is veggie but maybe your friend isn't either. As far as I can remember the Rye Hotel does the veggie sausage option - but again that might suit your friend. Hope this helps - and if you go elsewhere and it is a success do let us know, I'd love to try somewhere else.

What about those who can't afford cars and the congestion charge and who soon won't be able to afford the train?

Actually I think the coffee in these places resembles bitter hot water more than a proper cup of coffee, and although I am happy to sit in a restaurant and eat the kind of food that I wouldn't make for myself, a ?2 cup of coffee in an indulgence too far. However I make my own sandwiches too, so I guess that I look after the pennies.........

I prefer to use an independent if possible and I like it because I know at the end of the day who will make a profit from my hard-earned cash, and I'd prefer if it was someone I have actually made contact with rather than some nameless shareholders elsewhere. I like the fact that my organic fruit and veg come from near where I brought up and that you can visit it and look at next months meal in the ground, and that I know the local distributor personally, however if I didn't ALSO like the produce I wouldn't use them. And I don't use Cafe Nero - because I think paying ?2.00 or whatever it costs there for a cup of coffee is daft when I can walk home and make one in my kitchen for a few pence.

I've just read that one of these white chocolate hot drinks with full fat milk has over 600 calories - surely that's enough to put anyone off drinking these drinks.

The trains are definitely getting busier, the 7.51 is a total scrum. One day last week it was so full that no-one could move their arm enough to open the door at London Bridge and we had to wait until someone outside opened the door. Fridays is bearable - just!

Keef - that was the point I was making - for all the love from my mother, I had very very little in terms of material objects and although I never asked for things it would have been nice to have them. The free dinner thing was a bummer though and I started making my own sandwiches from about 11 to avoid the whole embarrassing scenario.

Well as I said I don't have any knowledge of modern childhood - obviously there is no stigma in getting benefits any more. I was made to feel a pariah and I wasn't in a middle class area. I just wouldn't like others to go through what I went through as a child unless it was necessary. So sorry to LizzygotDizzy - no offense meant - and you sound like a wonderful hard working mother - its a shame that our system doesn't reward you. So - back to the question - why are teen pregnancies so high - maybe because the teen mothers know that their children will have free school meals, trips and school uniform vouchers and SOME of them are happy to work the system.

I can't see what is selfish about wanting to wait a bit so that you can give a bit more to your child. I am sure that there are enough of us on the forum who can state categorically that even if you are loved as a child, it is NOT NICE having free school meals and know that others are sneering at you for it. It is NOT NICE to not go on holiday because there isn't the money. It is NOT NICE wearing second hand and hand me down clothes when others have things new. Surely we all want child poverty to be a thing of the past and surely teenage mothers are more likely to be amongst that category. I appreciate that I don't know about this now at first hand, but common sense tells me that people in jobs, in stable relationships are likely to be able to give more, both financially and emotionally.

Obviously a selfish middle class viewpoint here, but isn't it better for young people to have some FUN before they settle down and have children. Is it not possible that a 16 year old who can't go out and have fun with their mates may feel resentment rather than love for the reason for this?

East Dulwich Garden Centre - possibly replaced with flats

Left the cinema in total silence after this film (apart from the odd sniff) - very powerful and very hard to take. Had intended to go out for a drink afterwards but didn't feel in the mood. Other films that have made me feel that way are 'Schindler's List' and more recently 'Pan's Labyrinth'

Remember the words of Cobain "just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you"

I quite like travelling by bus, but I have felt far more threatened by anti-social behaviour on the bus than on the train, maybe because it is cheaper. I've seen a knife being waved around on the 37, and been surrounded by aggressive youngsters on the 63, not to mention being threatened at the 37 bus stop in Clapham.

When reminiscing about what I used to like about London when I first moved here, the subject of Kensington Market came up. I used to go to a shop called Individual Fashions which sold lots of punk and other gear. Did anyone else frequent this shop or remember it? or have other good memories of either Kensington Market or it's posh over the road sibling Hyper Hyper? Just feeling old and hope someone else remembers these too.
