  1. Thanks for the responses, guys. Just reading KK's post made me tired, so I think I'll get the professionals in after consultation with the affected neighbours (funnily enough no-one has said anything to me about the shade or seedlings, so maybe they like at least the former).
  2. With apologies for high-jacking the thread... I have a Sycamore in my backyard, and though there's no issue with it affecting nearby houses, it provides too much shade for our liking and as KK notes, you can waste half your life digging up its many-numbered offspring. So: - can I trim the tree now, or should I wait for autumn?; - if I cut it right back to the trunks (there's two main ones as far as I can tell, though I'm sure someone will tell me they're branches) will it regrow?; - if I dig it out altogether, is this doable without heavy machinery (I?s say it?s about 8-9 metres high at the moment, with a 6 metre spread. Thanks, Chillaxed
  3. Definitely would like to see a mural/street art/proper graffiti on the giant white wall on Spurling Road. By 'proper graffiti' I likely mean the 80's stylings Otta is thinking of (you know, think flat top, ghetto blaster, and maybe a piece of laminate ktichen flooring you found in a skip to 'break' on). I most definitely do not mean the sh*t tags that d*ckheads leave anywhere they possibly can for God knows what reason (though having a tiny penis is my guess).
  4. There go those damned middle classes mucking things up again. Daffodil stealing, M&S loving/independent shop hating, proper boozer destroying, b*stards. And now they're setting their dogs on our squirrels!
  5. ED was looking very nice indeed this morning on my walk to the station. Maybe it's just the good weather skewing my perspective, but I was struck by how clean the streets looked. Not even a chicken'n'chips box. Thanks to the street cleaners, then.
  6. Thanks for the info, appreciated. I'm surprised some are ignorant of the offence caused if they're that blatant (noting of course that I didn't know what a golliwog was beyond a brown or black-skinned doll). But I think the approach Sue, the e-dealer and others have taken to the lady in question is the right one.
  7. Could someone clarify for me what a golliwog is, as opposed to a doll with brown or black skin? I assume the former is offensive and the latter isn't?
  8. I know, annoying isn't it. Best (or worst) example I've seen was where EDF's resident 'chip on shoulder personified' claimed that stealing daffodils was a middle class problem.
  9. I may be wrong, but didn't I read somewhere that ED residents petitioned against Iceland moving to LL back in the day?
  10. Well yes, ha ha, I guess it does. Big shout out to my wife for dealing with these symptoms when she was preggers!
  11. OK, thanks for clarifying. Both attitudes make no sense to me. For the record, I'm for M&S 'cause I'm lazy and like their Cook! ready-meal range, on balance more than I like Iceland's range. I won?t be making any comment on the planning application though, as it's not a vote for M&S or Iceland, it's a vote for refurbing (re-moding even) the existing building.
  12. I find that a strange objection, Undisputedtruth. Why do other people's shopping habits bother you? I couldn't give a toss where other people shop.
  13. Yeah, that thread did prompt the question. Like many threads on the EDF though, it's gone way beyond a discussion about the merits of the planning application, and has descended (or ascended) into a debate about the usual ED issues: gentrification, the CPZ, chain v independent stores, cheese tasters, James Barber, etc, etc. Good reading on a slow day.
  14. Just curious, what's the record for the most posts to a single-subject thread on the EDF? Single-subject excludes threads like James Barber's, Football Focus, ED Nature Watch, etc.
  15. Thanks for your posts and PM's. I've seen the docs so if they discover anything unusual, I'll post again. Just to note, I'm a bloke (so not pregnant or breastfeeding!). My wife has the same symptoms, however, and she is neither as well (though we've a 14 month old boy so Saffron's advice bears consideration). I guess people assume that posters in the Family Room are mums? Thanks again!
  16. Slightly strange question, but has anyone had an upset stomach recently with the following symptoms? Constantly rumbling, upset stomach Feeling nauseous but no vomiting Soft, ahem, stool Still have an appetite (though limited) Otherwise OK I've had the above for a couple of weeks now and have had enough. Thanks, Chillaxed
