  1. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am a NZer, so licensing laws (and the application of them by the local copper) may have been different. My parents took me to the pub loads of times in the 70's. It's not a yuppie/hipster phenomenon.
  3. Why would Khan's be so stupid as to alienate their largest consumer base?
  4. I live on Lacon Road and always get a park within 50 yards of my front gate, usually right outside. It's busy on market day but you can still get a park. I am happy with that, but then my expectation is not that I get a park directly outside my house.
  5. Surely Otta's motivations are relevant here. He clearly didn't mean to insult so why make an issue of it? Atticus, you use the term 'mental illness' freely but Otta can't use the term 'mental hospital'? What's the difference?
  6. IngridB, maybe Stik could apply his skills to the wall on Spurling Road opposite the EDT? There's a tag on there now that would benefit from being covered up forever.
  7. I'm not being rude, it's sound advice meant to be taken literally.
  8. I think that provided you note that your opinion is given in your capacity as a resident and not a councillor or committee member, you ought to be able to declare without prejudicing your position as a committe member. It's a fine line though and I understand your postion. Thanks, Chillaxed
  9. rch, Could you please clarify where you stand on the application? For or against, as currently drafted? If against, what aspects of the application do you object to? Thanks, Chillaxed
  10. Already discussed, wow. Thanks. Not sure I'd be 'quite taken aback' if I were served fries instead of chips though.
  11. What's the diffeence between chips and fries?
  12. Exactly Otta, I heard the noise too and through my powers of super-hearing deduced it was rugger buggers who can't handle their drink. You should join my super-powers club. Was noisier in general I reckon. Warm weather makes people thirsty makes people louder. And happier and louder. And a bit hot and bothered and louder.
  13. This isn't the first time someone has posted that a child playing post 7.30am in the weekend is anti-social (in the EXTREME!). As a considerate member of the community and a relatively new father, I'd be grateful if those posters could let me know how to ensure my child doesn't disturb their weekend lie-in. Close all the windows and sweat it out? Gimp gag? Ban on outdoor play, or just play fullstop? Ideally I'd install a volume knob and adjust as appropriate, but the little tyke won't stay still long enough for me to perform the surgery.
  14. I think you?ve missed Penguin's point, Fred. Either we all pay, if Capita/the government provide stamped envelopes, or only the people benefitting from the discount pay, by buying an envelope and a stamp. ?User pays? was the catchphrase for this sort of thing back in Aotearoa. I think it?s right they keep asking the question, though. Circumstances change and I?m afraid some people ?forget? to inform the powers that be. Don?t suppose there?s an online option is there?
  15. My sympathies to all who have posted that they have been mugged or intimidated. I'd add that how someone reacts in these situations is entirely down to the individual and there is no right or wrong reaction. I don?t think anyone can predict with any certainty how they would react. But I?d like to think that I?d tell these f***ers where to go and put up some sort of fight. I think they are trading on the (mis?)conception that all yoof are packing knives or guns and importantly are prepared to use them. I think most would p*ss themselves and run away if you stood up to them. I accept I may be dreaming, but in my dreams I take these guys on or someone helps me take these guys on or I help someone else take them on. We, good, honest people, outnumber these f***kers 1000 to 1 and it sticks in my craw that they exert such an influence on our lives.
  16. Borderlands, I can assure you that trains into the City are not exclusively ridden by 'the moneyed'. 300,000 people work in the City and only a fraction of them are loaded. And very few of those use the trains.
  17. Chris, are you really as hard as you post to be or would you piss yourself if you walked into a pub like the one you describe as your perfect pub? Having a hard time reconciling the kiss you ended your first post with (many thanks) with most of your posts thereafter.
  18. Going with option 5, thanks all.
  19. As I've previously posted, the only factor common to these idiots is a micro-penis.
  20. OK, thanks red devil. Maybe I just needed a bit of hand holding and a couple of renditions of Kumbayah to make me feel better about my UPVC's.
  21. Right, attached is the promised photo of my UPVC windows I am thinking about painting (white) to make them blend in a bit better. There's been a whole lot of rubbish posted since I said I'd post a photo so I hope those who were going to offer their opinion are still keeping an eye on this thread!
  22. It's not 'technically criminal damage', it's crminal damage full-stop. And many of the major offenders are not teenagers, they are 'men' with such small appendages they feel they need to spunk their tag all over the city to compensate.
  23. Will take a pic tonight, ta.
  24. I have UPVC windows and don't like 'em. Don't want to revive the argument above, just don't like the aesthetics of them. And can't justify the cost of having them replaced. So, being a cheap bugger, I wondered whether I could slap some paint on them, deliberately sloppily, in an effort to make them look 'rough' like wooden windows and less like brand new UPVC ones? My main gripe is that the white paint on the rest of the original window frame deteriorates as it does, but the UPVC windows remain gleaming white. So I'm not looking to make my plastic windows look wooden, just less discordant with the rest of the house. Thanks, Chillaxed
