  1. I wonder why they think ED needs another bookie?
  2. I came across that alternating system somewhere in the US (I think) - it seemed to work well. Unfortunately, it wouldn't stop cars, vans and trucks racing down the road I live on (with a primary school on it).

So yes > the arrival of the big chain store certainly > changed the character of ED....ironic really. I always felt that Somerfield killed the Co-Op. Didn't Somerfield suddenly start opening late and on Sundays and shortly after that, the Co-Op closed? I used to quite like going there...

It was a lingerie shop before that.

  6. This seems a bit drastic, but...
  7. I think that you're talking about the road by Dulwich College, which - AFAIK - is a private road and perhaps not covered by council guidelines. (I've never had a problem with those bumps.)
  8. That's a good idea - thanks. I used to simply walk out in front of the speeders, forcing them to slow down. Had some interesting "discussions" with one or two...
  9. Thanks for the comments. Maybe changing the bumps won't help but I wish there was a way of slowing down the traffic. If people drove more slowly then the ambulances wouldn't need to make so many journeys.
  10. For over seven years, I've lived on a road with a 20mph speed limit and speed bumps. (They're the kind with gaps in them which means that if drivers stay in the middle of the road, the bumps barely affect them.) We're very close to a primary school and I've seen cars, vans and even trucks race up and down the road at ridiculous speeds, especially in the morning and evening rush hours. Does anyone know how easy it is to get the council to consider filling in the gaps?
  11. (From my post in the friendly/unfriendly shops thread a week or so ago) So it's called Celestial, then? Never thought much of him when he used to peddle his crockery seconds at the Christmas craft fair...
  12. There used to be a really lovely friendly woman at Budgens/7-11. She sounded like she was from the eastern Caribbean (T&T or Barbados maybe) and was there on Saturdays. She was fantastic and always made my day better. I haven't seen her for a while (but then I don't go in there much now).
  13. Favourites: LL - SMBS, Cheese Block (sometimes), the card shop by Somerfield, the dry cleaners next to the post office, Dulwich DIY, John Alan florist, AJ Farmers NCR - the fudge lady, the CD man, the picture framer, the man at Emma's Not favourite: The guy who owns (?) that gift shop next to Dulwich DIY The Ralon man (And who remembers Keith the barber on NCR?)

I have to collect parcels from Silvester Road frequently and have always found the desk staff (there seem to be two guys who alternate) very efficient and friendly.

  16. It's not, but then do we need manners and respect for others to be made mandatory? It struck me as rude and thoughtless, but that's just my opinion...

Aah - another Screamin' Jay fan... Today it'll be an old standby: my version of quesadillas. Very quick/tasty/spicy (my preference) and just the thing to warm a chilly day. Recipe available on request...
