Thanks for the comments. Being a hater of cliches, I'm sure I'll avoid them. -
Thought this might be interesting for anyone who wants to know more about the opaque selection process for granting permission to build new free schools: http://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/jan/07/why-is-government-secretive-about-free-schools?CMP=twt_gu

A plea for more responsible dog owners
LadyDeliah replied to Lollipop's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can't admin just link these numerous anti-dog threads into one big dog/shit bashing thread? Countless duplicate threads moaning about the same thing over and over must be against some forum rule or other. -

I write for a living, but it's all legal arguments so I doubt I'd manage to write a script without any input from someone who has done this successfully before and yes, I'd want a contract drawn up with anyone involved. I will definitely want to protect against plagiarism. -

I do immigration law. I've got a friend with a small production company and there are more ways to fund and promote this kind of project than mainstream avenues nowadays. Once a pilot is made, selling it to a mainstream media/production company is going to be much easier. I also know a lot of aspiring actors who would be willing to do domething like this as a way of getting a possible foot in the door. -

If the character is someone for whom sex is an important part of who they are, then it needs to be included in the writing. Not necessarily graphic or titillating, but part of the story. -
Hi all, I am looking for a professional TV screen writer to collaborate on writing a TV pilot. They need to be willing to push boundaries. The main character is a very strong female working class criminal lawyer and there will be some violence, lots of sex, subtle comedy, drama, law, crime and a bit of grit. It's not meant to be particularly dark, just realistic and a celebration/examination of one woman's breach of various barriers/social norms whilst working in a very conservative profession. If anyone thinks this might be something they would be interested in, pls PM me on here. Thanks

Pay off the mortgage cos when mortgage interest rates go up and the property bubble burts you are less likely to lose your home or suffer from negative equity.

Yes and yes course Quids :-)

My kids and their friends are all into Instagram and most people they know use WhatsApp. Quite a few seem to be into Kik and WeChat too. Facebook messenger is pants in comparison and I am an old fogey who has just gone back onto Facebook, purely to keep in touch with my family and close freinds, so seems the Torygraph is on point on this one.

Thanks for posting this. It's not something I would have thought about and I don't usually check the amount when I press the enter button, after I've entered my pin. I'll make sure I check it in future though.

The stats on HIV in Africa have no bearing on the offensive tweet unless she was broadcasting her plans to have unprotected sex with high risk individuals when she got there.

Er, I'm pretty sure I said no to that already Loz. If someone's personal political/religious/prejucial views don't impact on the way they do their job, then it's nobody's business. For people in a position of power, I'd say it is just more important to check their impact more thoroughly.
-
If it doesn't affect their job, then I don't think anyone should be policing people's views. I think the issue is probably more worrying when someone's job involves power over others, especially if your views are racist and you have power over those groups who are the object of your racism.

Twitter is about who you follow. I'm into news, law and politics so don't get much of the personal stuff on twitter. I get a lot of interesting (to me anyway) information in my twitter feed, whereas for me, Facebook is just to keep in touch with my globally dispersed family and friends.

I agree with bornagain. Charities can sell assets in the future to whoever they like unless it's set up as a trust. Harris Foundation was a profit making organisation until 2011. I don't believe Harris has suddenly been overcome by philanthropic impulses because he changed his company to an opaque exempt status charity.

People can change their body shape through exercise in addition to gaining all the accepted health benefits. If you are healthy and like how you look, then that is likely to impact positively on other areas of your life. There is even evidence that more attractive people receive preferential treatment from others including employers and prospective employers. Whether taking advantage of the more shallow benefits of exercise is a good thing or not is another thing.

Yes, lack of transparency and oversight of free schools and academies appears to be an issue.
