Foxes have killed 5 of my chickens. They didn't eat any of them, just ripped them apart. I have a dog flap now so the latest batch of chickens have lasted 18 months so far but I have to lock them up every night to make sure the dog would hear them before they actually managed to get in the coop. Foxes are a pain in the arse if you have any small animals and are not really safe to be running around in cities, but I think some awareness of how we have encouraged them with discarded food and rubbish is a better option than a cull. I doubt a cull would be successful anyway. They can't exactly go around shooting at them in populated areas or poisoning them. If they tried to bring in the dogs, they'd have to shut off all the traffic for a night or the dogs would get run over and I'd like to see a fox hound scale a 10ft wall. I think the only option is an awareness campaign.

Because you're women, doing women things, shattering the illusion that we somehow get out of bed already made up and ready for the men in our lives. And the fact we are blatantly not made up, not ready for the men, but don't give a shit, well how appalling is that? If you were obviously the kind of frump who doesn't bother to wear make up, then that wouldn't be so bad, but no, you clearly do bother, but not for us!!!

That's not the case Ian. Even if you offer immigration advice for free or are a charity you must be registered. Making comments on a forum is unlikely to be a problem but it's worth pointing out because the reason giving immigration advice is illegal if not registered is because of the unique vulnerability of the people who need the advice and the disastrous effect on people's lives of incorrect advice. See: http://oisc.homeoffice.gov.uk/how_to_become_a_regulated_immigration_adviser/
-
It's the OISC who would be the ones to decide whether to bring charges not the DPP. The reason it is a regulated activity though, is because of the vulnerable nature of many of the people who need help, so even if someone is well meaning, but wrong in their advice, the effect on the person heeding their advice can be significant.
-
By the way people, just thought I'd let you know that giving immigration advice, even for free, without being registered with the OISC, SRA, Cilex or the Bar Council is a criminal offence.

You're welcome Sabrina. Hope it goes well, its quite a simple process but if you do want formal advice, let me know.

Some of you are confusing EEA rights with the domestic immigration rules. They are two seperate sets of immigration laws with totally different criteria. IanR the part you quoted is from the domestic immigration rules which has nothing to do with Sabrina as she is Italian. The EEA Regulations are the domestic interpretation of the EC Treaties and govern EEA migration. Sabrina does not need to marry or apply for Indefinte Leave to Remain. As she has been in the UK for 5 years exercising treaty rights she is automatically entitled to Permanent Residence and she will not lose this unless she is out of the country for more than 2 years (or commits a serious crime and is deported). If she wants to apply for British citizenship, she can take the ESOL with Citizenship course as English is not her first language. Then she will need to show that she has been working (or otherwise exercising treaty rights) in the UK for at least 5 years, fill in a Naturalisation Form and submit to UKBA with the fee, about ?960 I think. She should get her Naturalisation Certificate back within 2 months. After she had received her Naturalisation Certificate, she may apply for a British passport if she wants one, but she doesn't need a passport to show she is British, the Naturalisation Certificate is evidence that she is British.

My mum gave me a pair of pyjamas at Christmas. My first pair of pyjamas in over 25 years. I am happy to find that I am now able to follow this emerging trend and look forward to popping out for a pint of milk in my freshly ironed jammies :-)

Gold star for knowing the proper definition of hearsay. Fail for being an arse and sticking it in this thread.

Loss of parking space outside 70 Barry Road

Why is your car parking more important than dropped kerb access for number 70? -
100 hour pharmacy planning application CPR
LadyDeliah replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This was blocked previously by people whipping up hysteria and saying it would adversely affect the chemist on North Cross Road. In fact I think the Chemist was one of the main protesters. Then, when the planning application was refused, the chemist promptly sold up to Lloyds. I would like a 100 hour pharmacy at DMC as its my doctors, I have repeat prescriptions and work long hours. The needle exchange is nothing I am concerned with, having lived near to a chemist that offered this service before moving to ED and having had no problems. Knowing the NIMBY, vocal minority of ED though, I imagine this will be blocked again. -

I know people who buy the cheap burgers because they like them and can't afford expensive burgers. If its so easy to feed 4 people for ?1, let me know your secret PaulK.

As far as I'm aware academies don't have to stick to the National Curriculum. I might be wrong on that, but I thought the justification for that was because schools in special measures that were taken over by academies in the 90's needed a different approach. So I think the only schools who are restricted by the National Curriculum are state schools.

That sounds tough Pugwash. I can't walk away from my stuff, you can walk away, but you choose to stay. Hats off to you, I know I would run for the hills.

Economy, Energy & Enviromental crises
LadyDeliah replied to LadyDeliah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry Hugo, I've been too busy to give you a reasoned reply, but I'll get round to it eventually! -
Just got back to this thread, thanks for the positive comments, but dealing with things doesn't mean I was brave. I had little choice. The two alternatives were to give up or get on with it and I've done both at various times in my life. Talking about it on here isn't an indication of bravery either, I don't see it as shameful or something to hide, just like I'd have no issue talking about a broken leg or bad back. Also talking about any differences helps break down barriers and may assist someone who is going through similar things who is more isolated and vulnerable than I am. I am tough as old boots, but thanks anyway :-) Just wanted to add that being bipolar isn't all bad, especially now that the medication has switched most of the bad stuff off. My brain still goes at 100 miles an hour and I look at the world in a different way to most people. I love the fact that I'm constantly analysing the world around me and can concentrate deeply, for hours on end when I get interested in something. My brain is different to most normal people, but many of those differences are positive.

I like the fact you have put some analysis into your answer Hugo, even though I disagree with your solutions, but I think labelling people who hold a different view to you as extremists and fundamentalists is unhelpful in any discussion. -

If those stats are true, I'll eat my dog.
