Do you think they might be putting the prices up so much so that if they remain empty, they can knock them down and then sell the land they were on to developers? It would be a good excuse to knock them down if they are not used and they are less likely to be used if they price tenants out of the market.

Are we now a nation of tattle -tale and snitching in the workplace

I would have thought that if your friend had strong body odour then the manager wouldn't have needed to discuss it with anyone. It's likely everyone would have noticed anyway and may have been talking about it behind her back before the manager spoke to her. -
Can North Africa become the new South America?

But would you read E P Thompson? He is a very interesting historian who has researched the history of the working class, but he has been labelled a Marxist, not by me, so I would imagine that you would be equally dismissive of his work. His books are very interesting and well researched, so if you are interested in history and can get over his Marxist label, then you might enjoy them and even learn something in the process! -
I think if he has all the emails, he could send a further email stating that he has left the cash and if there was any dispute he could use that as some form of evidence that he had done as he was asked.

Here is a recommendation for your reading list seeing as you like history although I doubt you'd read it. I'm sure you'd rather read a summary and slag it off instead. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/279-9798518-3072246?ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&qid=1262626644&a=0140136037&sr=1-1 Can't url it tho, sorry cos I'm on my phone. -

"A wiser course of action would be to create a society that manages an uneasy truce between the workers that generate wealth and the hierarchy that is required to allow organised labour to function." That is a bit patronising. I beleive that people managed to work and organise themselves into trade associations without any bosses telling them when to eat, shit and sit down for many hundreds of years. The weavers associations even used to have schools to teach people how to read and such, without anyone telling them to. Amazing isn't it? -
I think if tenant breaches terms of licence then you don't need to give notice. I would imagine putting someone in fear, running up debts etc would be a breach and once permission to be in the premises is withdrawn they are technically trespassers. You can get police involved to ensure no breach of the peace when you want them out and you could mention the fear of physical reprisals because violence with trespass can be aggravated tresspass, which is a criminal offence.

Sorry for the silence, I got kidnapped on a fact finding mission in Somalia and the pirates didn't think my 3 bed semi was worth the ?3/4 million ransom, so I had to wait for my folks to go to the bank. You know how it is, embarrassing having to ask the parents, but hey ho, needs must and all that. Anyway, my original post was made after an interesting conversation with an Algerian friend of mine who fled the civil war about 18 years ago and was watching the developments in Tunisia with interest. He's hoping that Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, who are all showing varying levels of resistance to the corrupt and greedy dictators running their countries, might have a change of regime, hopefully one that doesn't steal all their resources for themselves, but uses them for the betterment of society and to improve the lot of the poor. He mentioned Venezuela and Bolivia as inspirations. Hence my question. And interesting idea if you don't mind me saying so. Pluralism and egalitarian principles in place of terror and dictatorship. Who knows if they have a chance of creating anything better? It would be nice to think so, but not so sure socialist and muslim would be permissible to the world police. -
And what makes your ideas on how to live life superior to theirs then Tarot?
-
Isn't that up to them? Tarot, aren't you doing the same as you say the parents of these girls are doing by telling them what they should do?
-
Exactly right Fabricio.
-
Tarot did you actually watch the programme or read any of my posts properly? If you had I think you might have an answer to your question.

Just because the neo-cons think the US has the right to be the policeman of the world, doesn't mean that they are; or that the rules of international law are somehow not applicable to them.

It's fair to say that the courtship rituals and focus on traditional gender roles could be seen as sexist, but the traveller/gypsy community are not alone in having sexist customs and traditions. I also think the way that their women had to completely squash their own sexual desires for fear of being branded a fallen woman is something that is mirrored in our own 'liberal' society.

I just watched the Tuesday episode on channel 4 website and I didn't think it was that bad. They have their own idea of what to wear and it might not be to everyone's taste, but so what? They seemed like a nice bunch of people who care a lot about their families and to whom lifelong marriage and commitment are very important. I enjoyed the programme and even the grabbing thing wasn't as bad as I'd assumed it would be after reading the comments. It reminded me of being in primary school when the boys would try to grab a kiss from the girls and the girls would have to pretend to fight the boys off. It seemed like a kind of childish game rather than the abuse that people on here have said it was. The girls have to fight the boys off even if they'd rather kiss them, because that's part of the game and it proves how chaste she is.

There is enough food for everyone. The problem is uneven distribution of land and resources. There will not be a time when there are so many people that the rich can't eat enough food. All the plebs will be toast before that happens.

Well said Santerme. Bush and Blair should be arrseted for war crimes. They are criminals responsible for over a hundred thousand civillian deaths.

Voila: Mickey: Good dags. D'ya like dags? Tommy: Dags? Mickey: What? Mrs. O'Neil: Yeah, dags. Tommy: Oh, dogs. Sure, I like dags. I like caravans more. From: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0208092/quotes

This is a thread about gypsies not Australian sheep farmers, so I assume the original mention of dag was in reference to the film Snatch where Brad Pitt played a bare knuckle fighting gypsy and says to the cockney gangster's side kick whilst stepping through a few dogs by his caravan, 'Do you like dags'.
-
Dag is 'dog' with an Irish accent. As in 'Do you like dags?' in the film Snatch. I can't believe none of you put the poor guy out of his misery!

The reasons for war are the reasons of the rulers who take the decisions to go to war. Their reasons are almost always economic. Just because the soldiers who are the ones doing the killing may have other reasons for going to war, such as blood lust, religious fervour etc, their reasons are not the ones that decided whether war was waged or not. taper Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Football, good looking women, badly drawn up > treaties, small mens' egos, heading off > existential threats, averting or ending genocide, > water (for drinking, irrigating and navigating), > religion. I think the male calves of dairy cows are often killed within days of their birth and used for dogfood. I don't think they are used to feed people. I may be wrong, but I think I remember seeing a documentary on this sometime last year.

So what are the reasons for war?
