  1. I cycled to work regularly for a year until i got knocked off round the back of London Bridge by a car on a cycle path. I had just started cycling when i jumped the lights on Bishopsgate by Leadenhall Street on my way towards London Bridge. I had never seen the cycle police before and this guy pulled me over by Monument (i though he was just a cyclist getting fresh so didn't take it seriously until he flashed his badge at me!), he gave me a strict lecture on why I should not jump red lights. To be honest I hadn't really thought about it - I just wanted to get to and from work quicker than public transport. But I will be forever grateful for being pulled over as I never then jumped a red light again.
  2. I went late on sat afternoon and sadly most of the cakes had gone! I went with a friend and her two young daughters - they had face paint which they loved (and it was free!), loved seeing the dogs, punch and judy, fishing for ducks for a prize. We did also get caught in the rain but we had shelter at the book stall, bought some books. it was nice to see so many people out and even though it rained the kids really enjoyed it. I would definately go again but its a shame about the weather!
  3. I went in yesterday afternoon for about 3 hours, my mates (all girls) tried 3/4 diff cocktails and I had a glass of vino. I asked my mates what they thought to the cocktails and they were fine, not too watery but by the 3/4th drink they couldn't taste the alcohol but looked pretty tipsy to me. barmen fine very chatty, we even got to put requests in for music. Toilets clean and fine, seating area good. other folk in there both men and women and although it wasn't very busy it was nice to watch the world go by having a drink. I would probably try it again as its different to other bars on the lane.
  4. I went in yesterday - looks very clinical, floral wallpaper, what look like small chairs and tables not like a pub at all. Even pizza man is bricked in and the booths have gone to make it look more food type place. And it is definately called the Magnolia - this is up where the screen used to be over the bar. Rose definately does not want the sport on and she said she told staff to not answer the phone on saturday as people keep phoning up asking when/if the sport will be on... she also said no food for a few weeks as she needs to now sort out staff. doesn't look like my cup of tea but wish them luck. no definate opening date/time though was what she said.
  5. its a shame but no sport. they have got rid of all the screens... i now go to the CPT to watch the setanta games
  6. i personally have always had great service at the herne. the food is always spot on and to agree with david_carnell - I would rather wait for good food than be served plastic food in 10mins. It is busy at the weekends but I don't know whats happened to patience. doesn't seem to exist anymore. Or manners by the looks of things. I popped into the herne last night for a few drinks and i'm happy to report the toilets were clean - as they have always been when i've been there - the staff were friendly as were the clientele. I for one will continue to visit to eat, drink and be generally merry.
  7. there is a really good one based in peckham and the food is really good. also does fish and chips as well as kebabs and things like chicken burgers. will need to wait till i get home for the number though. will post it later.
  8. hi all i went in on saturday to try out the food and check it out. the food was fantastic and my other half was impressed. (I mention this as it really does take a lot to impress him!). Unfortunately they do have (like any other new bars) teething problems (not enough staff on) - it was very busy for food and the front bar seemed to get busy too. I would like to try out the sunday lunch there but I really liked it - food good, staff lovely and very patient. only downside for me no screens therefore still searching for somewhere to watch the footy now the mag has gone. p.s. forgot to tell u what we ate - starter caeser salad which we shared and was SO delcious, mains - I had tolouse sausages with mash and red wine jus - again absolutely divine, Mr SWF had the burger and the chips were delicious like home made chips yummy. we skipped dessert as by this point it was rather late.
  9. they had different testers on the wall the other day. the booths have been taken out too.
  10. I personally am a big fan of the Mag. Nowhere else has sport on like it, with a good atmosphere. its closing for a referb around the 8th July. The manager could not say who was taking over as he himself has not been told. For some people who are being made redundant its their livelyhood and home. I bet noone is giving them a second thought!
  11. Hi jonsuissy - i was there bright and early on saturday. tea/coffee and drinks were on and the breakfast was DELICIOUS! very yummy. mAYBE see u sat.
  12. just on sky and yes full breakfast is being offered at the mag and advertised for 8am but kick off will be about 830am i think.
  13. Hi ebbrell79 I was in the Bishop with some mates on sat night although i left at around 11pm but I did see the group of deaf persons. I say group I only saw two really as we were not taking much notice of them. I'll check with my mates who I'm seeing tonight to see if they remember more clearly what they looked like and what time they left. I can remember one of them thinking 'you look far too young to be in a public house!'. I'll check tonight and report back.
  14. what would be the best thing to put woollens and silk clothes in - as in what type of packaging to protect it from moths - does anyone know?
  15. I went to the BMC on tuesday morning this week - it was good service and the food was fantastic. Sometimes you do have to wait for good food but it seems I was one of the lucky ones. The place also had some mums and toddlers in making loads of noise but loving it! Nero - where is Petinou? what type of place is it?
  16. i can vouch for the food in there, Jack is a lovely bloke, he also made to order a delicious chocolate birthday cake too. their free range eggs are delicious.
  17. We are doomed if Gordon Brown stays in power...
  18. lived in ED for 12 years - never been mugged. know of one friend about 10 years ago got mugged at Euston Station. Never been burgled either. lived in Middlesbrough for 3 years - burgled every year!
  19. The Palmerston for food. The Magdala for football/cricket/tennis/rugby
  20. SMBS the walk down Melbourne Grove pie and mash at the Magdala and watching the footy there The Lane cafe (roll on when it reopens on the 20th Jan) Karavan for my joss sticks North Cross Road market all the friends i've made there and the fact that most of my uni mates from Middlesbrough have also moved here!
  21. do you mean upstairs? I ate there the week before christmas and it was ok. Not brilliant but ok. I had ricotta and artichoke as a starter (couldn't taste the artichoke) and for a main pumpkin and cheese ravioli - I love pasta but this was drenched in oil and fresh raw garlic. But I would go again - there was a pork dish and my friend had it and it tasted great (i nicked some). So a bit hit and miss really. The wine was great though!
