  1. The drainage in that area is being improved
  2. Their servicing is spot on. I have never had to take my bike back for adjustments following their work, unlike some other local bike shops I have used. They charge a fair price too. Not only that, but when I had a warranty issue with a faulty Cateye light I bought, they replaced it despite Cateye saying the terms of the warranty had been broken, leaving the shop out of pocket. Customer service like this makes me happy to support a local business and pay a few quid over the odds compared to online retailers.
  3. There were problems on Surrey Canal Walk but they were two and a half years ago with the perpetrators being arrested. Instead of cutting through Burgess Park, just continue using the cycle route on Glengall Road, crossing the Old Kent Rd then cutting across towards the Borough and Waterloo.
  4. The owner of the Staffie (Not so weird now Lishyloo)that had been biting the trees was stopped and cautioned by the park warden on Sunday. Too late to save several trees, which have been badly damaged, but hopefully these attacks will no longer happen
  5. Womanofdulwich. That's the misleading type of misquote the Daily Mail would make to justify their views!...............so I've heard.
  6. Womanofdulwich. I can see from my last post that I may have come across as a Daily Mail reading, line 'em up against the wall and shoot 'em type. I am anything but that. Theft from clothing banks and scamming doorstep collections are rife, depriving charities of millions over the course of a year. I have seen people turning up with estate cars and vans to load the clothing from the banks outside my workplace. I have chased many of them away. None have tried to defend their actions by saying how poor or desperate they are. I'm up to my eyeballs in debt, going through a costly divorce and can't afford to run a car, yet wouldn't dream of stealing from something like a charity clothes bank to 'get along', no matter how much I needed the money. I became frustrated at the couldn't care less attitude towards what is organised crime, not something minor. It would be good to see people dealing with the situation as I have. I called the charity, told them what was happening and suggested they increase their collections to two a week as the bank was overflowing, which they have done. Now very little clothing is left beside the bank so the thieves are left with little or nothing to take.
  7. Bottles of urine! There was a similar problem with bus drivers chucking bottles like this into Camberwell Old Cemetery from Forest Hill Road a year or two ago. It could be that colour because they don't drink enough fluid, often hold it in for a long time and may have no access to toilets at the end of the route as was the case with the No 63 drivers concerned.
  8. Mick Mac. So what if they are systematically travelling between clothes banks raiding them for the best quality clothing then selling them on Ebay? Is that a form of charity? The clothes that actually reach the charities are sorted by quality, with the best items being sold in charity shops and the rest being sold on at up to ?1000 per tonne, hardly peanuts. Womanofdulwich. How do you know they need things that badly? Were they in rags with bare feet? Perhaps we should let crack addicted burglars and muggers get on with it because they badly need their next fix? These parasites are the lowest form of thieving scum, more than likely earning a good living at the expense of charities. I always challenge anyone I see stealing from clothes banks. I'd be too ashamed not to!
  9. 999 if it has just happened and the person is still likely to be in the vicinity (and carrying the tools of the trade!). Still worth a quick 101 now to record the incident so police are aware of the location, time and any sort of description of the person.

So you're too lazy to look up the correct councillors and complain to them but you expect James Barber to take on someone else's workload? Mind you, I'm not excusing the incompetent planning that allows roadworks on Nunhead Lane, Peckham Rye, Bellenden Road and Peckham High Street at the same time. Glad I cycle everywhere.
  11. The builders told me it's going to be a nursery. Due to open in November
  12. Hello Mabel While I sympathise with you for what happened. You may want to edit the council tenant's name out of your post before you do anything else. After that, contact your local councillor.
  13. Some questions Puzzled. Who said they hated dogs? Are you suggesting the amount of dog mess in Peckham Rye, or any other park for that matter, is acceptable? My 7 year old daughter has an irrational fear of dogs and says she hates them. What medication would you suggest? Are dog haters, real or imagined, one of your little irritants? Are you on any meds? If not, perhaps you should book an appointment. I detected a hint of tension/stress/hysteria in your posting. Or are you just a WUM? Ilondoner made a valid point that there are many dog owners not paying attention to what their pets are doing, resulting in, among other things, rather a lot of turds littering the park. I witness this on a daily basis. I also see parents not watching over their children properly and people of all types treating the park and it's users with a distinct lack of respect. I like to have a polite word with them about it, which often does the trick. Fortunately I also notice the vast majority of park users, including dog walkers, behaving rather wonderfully. The-e-dealer was right in saying the park is for everyone. It's a valuable space in a densly populated London borough for all sorts of people. I would suggest a bit of give and take with minor irritants such as kids on the gym equipment (maybe a polite word with their parents). As for littering, dog fouling, vandalism, thretening behaviour etc...... if you witness it, report it to the police/wardens.
  14. Well report it then! Council noise team and/or RSPCA should do the trick
  15. Please don't go in there! The signs are up for a reason. Five trees have been identified as hazardous by the council tree officer. A survey has been commissioned to check for bat habitation before works can be carried out. This may have been carried out in the last few days, so hopefully any felling/pruning neccessary will commence soon.

He would be very interested in a decent description of the assailants if anyone has one as he makes several patrols of the park each day and would like an idea of who to look out for.
  17. Let me know details of where, when and who (description of owner and dog) and i will endeavour to catch and fine them. It's a part of my job that I love. PS. You can also obtain free dog bags at housing offices or the parks buildings at Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park
  18. Hello DipDap I've just read through the thread with interest. I hope you have recovered well and are back in the saddle. If you are, I would advise booking a lesson or two with a National Standards qualified cycle instructor. You can look one up through the CTC website. I can vouch for the fact that we are rigorously trained and assessed! Alternatively, check out the book 'Cyclecraft' by John Franklin. It's the highway code for cyclists. Either option will give you lots of good advice about road positioning, making it easier for other road users to spot you. Cheers Mark
