  1. I don't know the details of this area so have no opinion. But the head of an existing school saying there isn't space should be taken with a pinch of salt, as heads don't tend to be particularly altruistic outside of their little empire. That's not to say that there is space, but I wouldn't just take the head's word for it.

That was a really odd one wasn't it.
  3. What used to happen on this patch of land before the portacabins?
  4. I'll definitely share this.

I'm with Quids. Just because Carroll had a blinder and was on to everything doesn't necessarily mean they played route one boring football. And I hate BFS as much as anyone.
  6. Schools which have their visitors gate on a different road to their postal address, so you have to walk round the block. Surprisingly common and very annoying when your foot is full of gout.

He did mention Teddy Sheringham today, so maybe the PR men have had a word about his post match interviews.
  8. Ah, yes I agree, I'm old skool with my mince pies.
  9. WTF is a pound pastry mince pie?
  10. Loz I think you're just trying to whip up a storm here. I know it's a slow Sunday evening, but let it die man.
  11. Louisa you're quite right, and I did think of mentioning that too, but then I thought someone would probably twist that to make me sound homophobic or something, so I left it out. But yeah, fair point.
  12. How long do you have to be off the meat before you're genuine? An alcoholic who gives up booze is never a non drinker, they're an alcoholic taking it a day at a time. This also comes down to willpower. So by that logic, if you're a meat eater who decides not to eat meat because of the animals, then maybe you're not a vegetarian at all, but rather a meat eater taking it a day at a time. Perhaps the ones who jump on the band wagon are in fact the real vegetarians because basically it's a movement.
  13. If a bloke is getting on buses and sitting next to men when there are loads of free seats, he's an arsehole. If he's doing that to women then in my (possibly totally sexist) book, that's far more creepy and sinister.
  14. Jah was undoubtedly harsh, I cringed when I saw his post last night, and it's harsh whether the OP is male.or.female. But he apologised and explained he thought it was a bloke. Sexist yes (which I didn't deny in my post above if you'd like to look again), but also kind of understandable in my book, because in this particular circumstance it does make a difference.

That's just plain and > simple sexism at work. Oh behave. Yes you can easily make a case that it's sexist, and on the face of it it is. BUT In the real world, a woman on her own is much more vulnerable to this kind of behaviour from a scumbag than a bloke and probably less confident in speaking up in case he gets nasty. That is of course a generalisation, but largely true. If people want to call that sexist, fine. But it's also true.
  16. My missus became a veggie at a young age and says it was because at the time she felt sorry for the poor animals as a child might. These days, whilst totally against animal cruelty, she does it more because she believes the world can't maintain all us meat eaters.
  17. Someone posted these a while ago, yes they are great. Even though this was 15 years before I was born, they reminded me a lot of my childhood. Especially Peckham Parkand the Sally Army.
  18. Blah Blah Wrote: ----------------------------. > Someone above claimed vegetarianism carries health > risks. Well I don't see obesity, diabetes and > heart disease being caused by vegetarian diet! I don't think those things have much to do with whether you eat meat or not. More to do with how much sugar stuff you munch.
  19. Bugger, only just remembered, so missed the early kick off. Like that would have made a difference.
  20. Quorn mince is okay, the chicken pieces are okay in a stir fry. The bacon flavoured insoles are not okay, they are a feckin travesty.
  21. Shouldn't you just be pleased they're not eating animals, whatever the reason? My wife has been vegetarian for 30 years, but says she still misses bacon sarnies.

And quite right too. I'm not sure I'd want to be 18 - 25 and living in ED these days, the area has all grown up.
