  1. I just read this and wish I hadn't. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30327717
  2. I wonder how 1997 Blair would feel if a time traveller took him a selection of articles about his time in power and since. I never voted for him, but I didn't think he'd end up a figure of hate like he has.
  3. Oh come on Quids, I know you think I'm guilty of lazy social media stuff (I am at times), but don't claim that you're above stereotyping. The thread that you started about that whole episode was called something like "what Labour really think of white working classes". That means that YOU saw that photo of a white van and an England flag (and a West Ham flag), and YOU immediately pictured white working class, and I'm guessing copy of the Sun. And that is perfectly normal, I'm not attacking you for it, but you're not above it.
  4. I live in Penge, my parents live in ED (as does my sister). My kids are 5 and 3, I don't know where I'll be living in another 5 years time, or even if school admissions will still be the same then (it's not that long ago that catchment areas didn't really exist for secondary schools and it was absolutely normal for kids to be getting a bus or two to school in another borough). I don't expect James to respond to me, people were saying he should represent the feelings of his peeps (he should) I asked him directly if he would, and he said he had. What I am not doing is asking him to do anything for me. I may not live in ED at the moment, but I remain interested in the area, and am very keen to know what will become of the site where I was born. (personally I'd like to see Haberdashers take it, just out of pure bias)
  5. Is it the concern of someone on the steering group who says her kids live outside of the catchment? The answer to that is yes by the way. And how do you know where I'll live when my kids are secondary age? I am interested in this for various reasons, so if I chose to comment on a public forum about it then surely that's my right. No?
  6. And we wonder why people don't trust politicians (I'm not talking about you James).

    It's watching you John. Woooooooooooo
  8. Normally I'd be well happy with 16 points. But it looks thoroughly mediocre next to some of those scores.
  9. Yeah I read that yesterday, and for me this "Unwilling to take a principled stand on such fundamental issues, they prefer to take a populist position in the hope of winning a few more votes." Is the saddest line in there.

X Posted with KK. It was New Hamlet Inn immediately before The Vale. Not sure about before that.

And before that, The New Hamlet Inn. Only went there a handful of times before it became The Vale. For a period around 2003/04 it was a regular Friday/Saturday night venue for a bunch of us (start at The CPT then head down there before grabbing a wrap roll from Yilmaz then often heading back to The CPT (upstairs). But despite putting ?100+ behind their bar EVERY time I went in there (God, to have that money to spend now...), never doing any drugs in there (honstly), and never getting in any scraps, the owner still looked at me like I was something unpleasant he'd trodden in. Eventually you just think maybe your money would be better spent elsewhere. Plus the music changed from fun stuff to dance to (Hey Ya) to stuff I wasn't remotely in to, and the crowds dwindled, and other places got later licenses so it wasn't the only local option after 11pm.
  12. Was never really a mortal Kombat kinda guy.
  13. I was a big fan. A SNES with Street Fighter 2 Turbo was up there with my bass guitar as best presents my parents gave me as a teenager. I tended to go for Ryu/Ken. Tekken 2 on the original Playstation was also very very good (never had a PS, but spent A LOT of time round my mate's gaff playing his).
  14. Maxxi basically nails it. To wonder down the street and hear someone playing music is lovely, you can walk on by, or stop and listen for a minute. To live above it though means that you're given no choice in the matter. I agree with Maxxi, find a few spots, and do a "set" in each, but don't stay in the one place for a couple of hours as that seems a bit much. People basically forget that people live above shops.
  15. I suspect James has quiet moments of reflection where he wishes he'd never gotten involved in trying to get any school on this site. James, will you feed back to the appropriate bodies that there is a strong local feeling that there should only be a secondary school on this site, and in fact, many people feel that what with Harris East Dulwich already opening, there is no need for a new primary?
  16. And all power to you. I was making a bit of a generalisation rather than being literal. For the most part people will think first and foremost about the situation that they are in, because it is the context of their lives. That was the point really. You are clearly a kind and selfless exception. And again, I think the idea of having two schools on that site is absolutely fecking ludicrous whatever way you try to paint it.

It clearly has some sympathy with lonely bots.

Judging by this thread a Wetherspoons wouldn't have upset too many people. Dammed shame about the Golden Lion though, always been a nice pub.

I know who you mean, haven't seen him for a bit myself, but he probably does still use the place.
  20. Pretty much every thread on the first page is about things that are happening now, except this ONE. Just don't read it if it bothers you. I for one enjoy good memories, whilst also living in the now and thinking of the future for my kids.

You offend pretty easily. I'm sure it's all 100% altruistic.

  23. Well yes, if lots of non voters voted that would make a huge difference to. But I do believe that loads of people like the idea of, say, The Green Party, but when it comes down to it they go for red or blue because they're trying to keep the other one out.
  24. Not that I don't want to see just a secondary on the hospital site personally.

Fair point, but even if James announces what he really wants, I still think people are assuming that somehow James has the power to make his preferred option happen. It is not in his hands! And he makes a good point about pople with very young kids. I'd be willing to bet money that everyone getting wound up about the secondary school already has their kids in a primary.
