Haberdashers' East Dulwich - 751 families supporting
Otta replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
James I wasn't having a go, I just assumed that Haberdashers were already fully on board. "You don't get to be a charity since 1369 (from memory) without being cautious." Have you been to The Worshipful Company's "clubhouse" (for want of a better word - it's a very grand hall)? I remember going there mid 90s to sing a recital for loads of old posh blokes. We had an awesome carvery and they kept giving us loads of wine (much to the displeasure of our music teacher, beng as none of us were 18). That is my kind of charity. -
Krispy Kremes are okay right?
-
He is a big loss (and I'm really pleased to be saying that after a lot of people - me included - raised eyebrows at his signing/price tag). Gerrard is suiting his new role very well, but they may need to push him forward again with Lucas sitting in front of the back 4... I dunno. SJ, Yeah I'll be making sure the wife doesn't make any plans that mean me missing this one (as she did on Sunday - had to meet her friend for lunch at the bloody woodhouse where I could barely even get a signal to check the score on my phone!!!!!).

And why not? Whatever will be will be now, not point being negative. Agree with RD though, think Chelsea will be a harder proposition for Liverpool. City was always going to be a very difficult match which we could have lost, but it was always going to be like to boxers going toe to toe and throwing bombs. Chelsea will be much cagier and try to knock us out with counter punches. As I say, whatever will be will be, but I pray we beat them, just to wipe the smug look off of Jose's face.

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible

Though for all we know he could be paying half his salary to an ex wife and 3 kids somewhere, we were just assuming that his salary is all his. -

Yep, that's me right there in the middle of that braket. My wife was telling the other day that she was chatting to one of the consultants at work (she works at Thommy's - she's a lowly sectratary 2 days a week by the way) and was surprised to hear that he rents a one bed tiny flat in one of the less desireable areas of North London. He apparently laughed when she said she'd assumed he'd own a nice apartment. -

I'm from ED, and we wanted to be reasonably close because my parents live in ED and help us with childcare. So moving further afield where we may have gotten 3 bedrooms was not an option, instead we've bought a 2 bed ex council flat in Penge for ?210k. We have 2 small kids who will have to share a bedroom possibly throughout their teens depending on how things pan out for us. Of course I'd prefer 3 beds, of course I'd prefer to be able to buy in the area I grew up in (actually given the choice I'd rather own a nice house in Sydenham than ED, but that's just me. I love Sydenham), but reality is reality and you either have to make some pretty big concessions and dive in to this crazy market with fingers tightly crossed, or you stay away from it and moan about the house prices in the area you most like. Things are crazy / crap / scary, but none of us can do a damned thing about it quite frankly. -
Sorry can't help with that specific question. But would just say that if you can try a board before buying then do. We got one for our daughter and she flatly refused to ever get on it, and we ended up selling it a couple of weeks later for quite a loss. But I think they're great if kids are happy using them.

In an ideal world no one would need to eat on the tube, but if I'm in a rush, and I'm really hungry, I'll do it, because when my sugar levels drop I start to shake and sweat, and frankly I'd rather people I'll never see again find me digusting than to actually feel disgusting. Having said that, there is eating and there is eating. Fried chicken, much as I love it, smells pretty strong, and leaves waste other than packaging (bones). The smell of fish makes me feel ill, no one wants to see someone trying to eat a doner, let alone smell it. But cold foods, sandwich, bag of crisps, chocolate bar... does that really bother people? Kids leaving chicken boxes/bones on the bus is a separate issue, and yes it's minging.

That could well be the key. I hope Chelsea do quite well in the first leg, not so well that they feel it's won, but well enough that they're still in it, and maybe have that in their minds when they come to Anfied. I then obviously hope they lose to Liverpool before getting buried in the second CL leg. Neither Sturridge nor Suarez were great on Sunday, which for me shows what a good team performance it was.

http://www.haaf.org.uk/New-East-Dulwich-Secondary-School "The Haberdashers? Aske?s Federation has been asked to set up a brand new secondary school in East Dulwich by a local parent campaign group and by Southwark Council. We are working with them to assess and develop the proposal for a new school, including establishing the level of demand for a school and whether the site is available and suitable. The proposal is for an 11-18 school on the Dulwich Community Hospital site, which would open in September 2016. All the main local political parties in Southwark have given their support to the idea. A final decision on whether to apply to the Government to open a new school will be taken later this year." Interesting. -
Want to buy a portable DVD player, ideally one which can also play video files off a USB memory stick. There are lots out there by big names, and less well known names. Can anyone recommend one? Thanks

Whilst we're on that subject, massive respect for City and their fans for the way they represented themselves at Anfield yesterday.
-
I've just looked at a couple of "as it happened" reports, both of which say that the silence was well respected at the time. However, one of them later mentions reports that there was some faint singing, possibly by fans not yet out on the stands. I dunno. The vast majority of Chelsea fans are just footy fans like any other, but they do seem to have a small number of comlete and utter cunts supporting them. And one captaining them.

In my F-I-L's case he's just a bit hard of hearing,he can converse without me having to raise my voice or anything, I don't think he's yet reached a stage for hearing aids and the like.
-
Seen lots of tweets basically saying that today's match just shows what great footy both teams play, and how desperately dull Chelsea are in comparison.

My father in law is getting a bit mutton and is concerned he'll upset his neighbours by having the telly too loud. He's asked me which headphones he should get, but I'm not really in the know. Any recommendations for decent phones but not top range expensive?

Paying living wage would ultimately lead to less jobs. Leading to harder work for those lucky enough to keep their jobs. I want people to be paid a good wage, I really do (having done my time working for minimum wage), but the reality is that it would benefit some and mean less jobs for others because businesses are unlikely to take the hit out of their profits.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Why even pay the buggers at all?" Stupid comment. I'm not saying it's a good situation, and that they all shouldn't be paid more. I'm simply saying that working in a cinema is no more difficult than bar work.
-
To be honest, the cooling coffee thing is pretty extreme, yoy must have an amazing sense of smell.
-
Most bar staff will be on minimum wage, how is selling some tickets and a bit of popcorn any more of a skilled job deserving of higher wages?

I think it's quite handy, but the fonts do look quite basic and the resoltion thing means it looks off centre when viewed in firefox 1280x1024.
