Haha, is that how you managed to score your (very cool) nane for your daughter? I got quite lucky in that I suggested my okder daughter's name and my wife agreed straight away. Then she suggested the next one and after a quick read of a classic novel I was happy to agree. Glad wr didn't have a boy as I had no ideas. -
I've now had JL and RD predictions.

" His persona is also very confrontational and aggressive, I don't think that goes down well at any club." Er, it worked pretty well for United this last 20 years or so ;-)

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
Otta replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The problem with right to buy was that the money was never put back in to social housing. Yes it was good for a kot if people, but it could have been better for a kot more people. -

And I disgree that someone that sends their child to a private school has no right to have a say on state schools, especially when we have no idea why they made their decision (for PERSONAL reasons which have no place on this forum). -

"More than half the pupils at the school are from ethnic minorities, compared with a national average of 22.4%." You can't really compare a London school to a national average when it comes to ethnic minorities. National average includes places where there are no ethnic minorities. -

Help to buy scheme (which I've used) surely a major factor. People like me and mine thinking "well this is our one chance of buying in London unless we wait for our parents to die (assuming their assets don't get swallowede up in care bills in their latter years)" and taking the plunge even though we're frightened of what might happen when we renew the mortgage. It's not ideal by any stretch but people will gamble. And that's just one aspect of this huge problem. The thing about the E&C development already being sold off in part to foreign investors is also a scary story if true. -

Interesting that one of United's better results comes when several players are apparently be rested for CL. Should some of today's team maybe be considered given the performance? And will Andy Carroll haunt the pool tomorrow? Jamie Carragher not overly complimentary in the press today which makes me even more worried about the prospect than I akready was.

Surely the point is that in Germany it's a better system so the people renting are paying reasonable rents as opposed to being shafted. I would have no problem with tax breaks for landlords if it meant cheaper rents and better rights for tenants. I'd have a big problem with it if it just benefited the landlords and they were left free to charge ridiculous rents to people. -

Exactly. I have no problem with renting at all, it would just be nice not to have to spend whatever money I end up upon retirement on rent. Assuming I get that far. -

Indeed! Particularly when there is not a useful and constructive suggestion amongst them, just personal attacks and a load of negativity. -

Luke Warmwater. A friend swore blind she'd gone to school with a lad of this name. I thought it was genius on his parent's part. But I've had a few odd looks when people have heard me call after my younger daughter so I'm not sure I'm one to judge. -
Whereabouts is the goldsmiths? I've popped in to the crooked billet and that pkace next to Penge East station, both of which are beyond spit n sawdust. By the way, if you were thinking about MacBeth at the bridge house, I'd recommend it. Went last night, it's upstairs in the "theatre" which is basically a room with chairs around the edge and the performance in the middle. 30 or so in the audience (think 40 would be about capacity). Was very impressed the the quality of the principle acrorsr.

And as of next year the Europa winners get a champs league spot, which could make it more interesting. See Rooney is out today, and a doubt for the Bayern match. United supporters must be a bit worried to see that. I imagine he'll play in the week, it's only a bruised toe, surely they can dose him up for the match.

"3. Why should the community follow such an unrepresentative group's advice?" The community doesn't need to follow anyone's advise. The Department of Education will make a decision and the community will get a new school based on that decision. Believe it or not, I'd probably be on the same side as you in a debate about state education and private education. But this is not the place for it, and you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder and a problem with James Barber, which is basically making your posts just come across as sounding malicious. -

An impassioned plea, for education, against Gove
Otta replied to bluesuperted's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Definitely yes. I think education and other public services like social care (health a very different kettle of fish here) have been improved / screwed depending on your view point by Thatcher's gov, Blair's gov, and now Cameron's gov. Performance indicators are evil. I understand why they want them so that they can quantify results, but in these services they just make things harder for the workers, and make the actual service worse. Then performance managers are brought in to make things look great, so, for example, certain kids won't be allowed to sit certain exams in case they have an off day and hurt the school's results. It's shit and it's not just this government that are getting it wrong. Although Gove does seem spectacularly clueless. -

But other than making a personal choice which is absolutely none of your business and nothing to do with you, what exactly do you think that James Barber has done wrong? Thanks largely to him there is going to be a new secondary school in an area that desperately needs it. What a bastard huh? -
