  1. Bare in mind that in most of Europe kids don't even start school until 6 or 7. My daughter starts school this year, and I look at her and think how can this little girl be ready for school? Stupid country.
  2. But back to LB's question. No, setting targets doesn't help rapists. The way this unit chose to manage it's performance helped rapists. I hate targets, and believe that they hinder professionals. However, we all have a duty of care in whatever job we're in, and if you see something bad happening, you sort it out. If someone actively made the decision to fiddle the figures by effectively sweeping rape allegations under the carpet, then that person should be sacked.
  3. He'll love Madrid, him and Ronaldo can go to ballet together.
  4. I'll be amazed if Bale is a spurs player next season. But Levy will get a good price for him.
  5. I agree, I wasn't trying to say it's just one case and they're blowing it out of proportion, it's clear that that particular unit was shit. I was just talking about that particular article. One just has to hope that they've sorted it out since then... I think the whole way rape cases are dealt with from start to finish needs an overhaul. Didn't they recently change the anonymity rules for the defendants? Something I'm not sure I feel comfortable with to be honest.
  6. Everyone knows that targets are a load of bollocks, and have just made services suffer in health, education, social services... Why should the police be any different? That story is very bad, but I can't help thinking they've taken one particularly bad case, and used it to sensationalise the whole thing.
  7. Yeah, when we went there was a good crowd, but don't think it was sold out by any stretch.
  8. ?100 a week pocket money? Can I be your Au Pair please.
  9. It perforated his ear drum, so his balance would have been shot.
  10. Hello, In also a dad of two, with my eldest in the same situation. The family room has some great tgreads, and occasionally the wonen get their claws out which is akways fun (especially if you can add some subtle stirring). Welcome.
  11. I'm no expert on health trusts, I'm more a local authority kinda guy, but everything would have to go through a panel I imagine.
  12. The flats on the corner of Underhill & Overhill are not so much ugly or anything, as just... wrong it that surrounding.
  13. "To sound like I'm writing for The Mail: it is a real postcode lottery. A friend of mine was eligible for treatment, while her otherwise equivalent colleague in the neighbouring borough wasn't, purely because of the areas they lived in." This is the case throughout the NHS, because it all depends on the local trust. Whilst they're all "NHS", they are totally seperate businesses that manage their own budgets as they see fit. Not fair, but there you go.
  14. You hardly failed. Southwark did.
  15. Agree completely that this is not a woman only decision, and definitely that in the majority of cases it will probably be couples who have been trying and trying. However, there is a fair argument that the NHS will not fund certain drugs or treatments because they don't feel there is enough of a chance that they'll cure a patient. You can see why these patients would be put out, when the chances of IVF working for these older couples is are less. I basically think it's a good thing, but I equally think that some of the arguments against are very valid. Rags like the Mail won't worry about these valid arguments, they'll just print their usual shite.
  16. They were saying on the radio that when the warrant officer arrived, OP's brother and lawer were already there, and a locksmith had been called to open a safe containing a memory stick with details of his offshore accounts. Would seem someone was hoping to do a runner (on blades of course).
  17. I'm in Sydenham, so not actually likely to be back in PP any time soon, just comnented because I'd expected more. It is a lovely park though.
  18. Hello, I was definitely at the main kids playground. Kids were bored within 15 minutes or so, there just could have been more to do, at least a couple more swings. That very playground used to be great when I was little, it had everything a playground should have. I understand it would have needed updating, but it just seems to have hardly anything there.
  19. Hi, no I was in the little one, that's what I'm talking about. The Adventure Playground is cool (although nowhere near as cool - and dangerous as it was in my day). Just edited my OP as you're right, it did look like I was talking about the adventure playground rather than the little kids one.
  20. ... Is shit!!! I haven't been to PP for years, and have great great memories of my own childhood there (especially the adventure playground). Now the park looks good, and I never expected the adventure playground to be like it was when I was a kid (mores the pity, but health & safety would NEVER allow it!). What I was surprised bu was just how rubbish the little kids playground was. No roundabout, no seesaw, onl;y 2 swings, and a little looking puddle which is actually ankle deep! They have the space, surely they could add a couple of extra things.

  22. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21492663 Mancini reckons he's the best manager in England. That can't include man management then, because I think he neds to seriously work on that!

  25. They'll be loving this thread anyway, I think that's the point. It's like taking trolling off of the net.
