  1. Again, being extremely critical of Israel's policies is one thing, but a lot of the left simply think Israel shouldn't exist. These people are feckin morons because Israel DOES exist, and whatever you think about how it came about, it's there now and we'll only ever move forward if we accept that and get on with finding solutions rather than harping on about past screw ups.
  2. By the way, I stumbled across this the other night, thought it was pretty interesting. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0791psw/never-again-fear-and-faith-in-paris
  3. I think also that people need to be careful to distinguish between being anti Israeli policy, and anti Israel. The former is fair enough, some of the things they've done have been appalling. Some Jewish people would argue that the latter is by definition anti-Semitic.
  4. What Quids has said.

I basically think the idea of higher salary, less overtime, and unsocial hours rate is good. And I suspect the doctors would have stayed at the table had there been continued negotiations over the fine details and numbers.

  8. It's all very well talking about the long term (and I get the point), but after years of study, a salary of under ?23k is laughable. I was on more than that in my first professional job 14 years ago. As I say above, raise the basic to something reasonable, and decrease overtime so doctors are not working a stupid and unsafe number of hours.

Very glad that this has happened for the families. Not at all surprised, couldn't imagine the jury were ever going to come back with anything other than what they've come back with, although interesting that it was a split jury on the biggest question.
  10. It's a total shambles, which is doing nothing for this government's credibility frankly (although there is no opposition to actually take advantage of it). It will be very interesting to see what comes of the legal challenge being made by 5 junior doctors, questioning whether the government can legally impose this new contract. Personally I think it's quite shocking how low the pay is for people that have studied for years to qualify as a doctor. But what I think they should do is raise their basic salary, and reduce opportunities to supplement with overtime rates.

And ironically it was Leicester supporting Lineker that scored your last winner there.

It's just the whole nearly relegated to (possibly) winning title a year later, which makes the Leicester story so good. Usually I'd be cheering Spurs on in a big way, but it's just unfortunate foe them they've clashed with Roy of the Rovers.
  13. The TTIP is something that I wish I fully understood, but which worries me. But as Loz says, the powers that be seem hell bent on it whatever happens.

Chelsea were always going to give you everything they have, and I am sure they'd love to beat you and effectively end your hopes. But if the title isn't wrapped up by the last day (which it may well be), I still can't see them rolling over.
  15. I have always been, and remain, a big fan of Obama. But I do think he overstepped the mark this week. Although I suspect he's being truthful when he says a UK / USA Trade agreement wouldn't happen over night.

Jah you are reminding me of Neil Warnock.
  17. It's all Brexit brexit brexit, that's certainly all the BBC have got at the moment. Totally tired of hearing about it already.
  18. Never liked the Dolphin, it's like having a beer in a starbucks. I used to quite like The Talma, which I assume was one of your crim's pubs. Was gutted the Woodman went, and only started using Fox's (which is just called Fox's now) after that. Don't use any of them now as I live in Peng?. Late Knights FINALLY seem to be doing something with the Alexandra, which I am very excited about.

I am a total FB whore, always posting nonsense on there, usually just my musings on the news or whatever, and usually meant with tongue in cheek, but quite often I then find myself having to explain myself because people have taken me seriously when I didn't mean to be. But what I don't do, and what fascinates me is when people put real personal stuff on there. I may say I've had a shit day and am fed up or something, but I've seen people post stuff about big rows between them and a friend or partner. It's uncomfortable just reading it. Much as I post on FB, I don't feel that I really put much of myself on there. An interesting one recently was when a friend of my wife's had a nasty cancer. She stayed very quiet for a while but then one day said she needed to share, and started writing long VERY detailed posts about her illness and treatment (which, touch wood, seems to have stopped it for now at least). It was the most personal thing I've seen on social media, but it clearly had a therapeutic value for her, and there was nothing "look at me look at me" about it.

I wonder if in part it has something to do with people being reminded of their own mortality. Superstars like Bowie and Prince are not "normal" people, so when they die in very normal ways at relatively young ages, it reminds us that we're all gonna die in the end. I guess when it's someone your age that you've followed for years it's an unwanted reminder that death waits for no man (or woman).

I agree about the emotional side Quids. I've posted things on FB but find the emotional outpouring weird, especially after Bowie, that was getting towards Diana territory (can you even imagine what social media would have been like had it existed in 1997?). People holding vigils and stuff for people they never knew is just odd, but then again Christians do that stuff for Jesus every year, so perhaps it's not so odd. The ones that I do find sad are when people die of overdoses and stuff. Some people judge those harshly, but I always think there is something sad about these people that "have it all", yet can't beat the drugs. Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots / Velvet Revolver was a perfect example. He was a singer I really liked, and he was on / off the drugs for years before it caught up with him in December '15. Peaches Geldof also pretty tragic.

We know, the whole Internet told us.
  24. 3 judges quashed the original conviction, that's a pretty strong statement.
