Last year I couldn't get "Say something" out of my head. Recently for obvious reasons it's been Purple Rain, but not the whole song, just the high pitched Ooo oo oo ooo bit at the end.

That sounds absolutely feckin vile! I don't like a lot of the flavoured beers either to be honest. Chilli beer and shit like that.

LOL. I don't do a lot of fine dining, but last time I had a Harvester breakfast (having stayed in opne of these hotels I guess) I thought it was pretty good quality for the money. Better sausage than you get in most cafes.

I doubt they're really going for tourists. You'd imagine it would be more people coming for weddings and things. I thought they'd go more cosy, but this is just corporate cold.

I don't believe for one second that you can remember as far back as your school days.

Didn't want to post this in the Ali thread for fear of being accused of trying to have a last word or blighting the man's memory. But wanted to post it nonetheless. So either the doco is > fibbing, or Frazier and his family didn't believe > resolution had occurred ? This is worth a watch, and it does indeed include mention of Ali and Frazier putting their troubles behind them in 2002 (because people had brought them together). I just think that was way too late and Joe had to live with that bitterness far too long.

Or at least it felt like I was rewatching it, there was some very recent stuff in there like interviews with David Haye, but most of it was stuff I'd seen before in Ali films.

To be fair to LM there was no actual further argument in that post, and agreeing to disagree seems like a good choice. I enjoyed rewatching "The Greatest" on BBC last night, and think it's a well balanced film. Unfortunately they haven't made it available on iplayer. Hopefully they will... I'm not 100% sure, but it had the feel of a BBC film.

And I like this piece. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/36452615

Bit as always, only after you've had the last word right?

LondonMix Wrote: > > That the majority of this thread has harped on his > feud with Joe Frazier really feels myopic and > petty to me. I'd argue that I just made a point and you're the one that dragged it on. And the fact you use the word myopic is ironic. Frazier said he accepted the apology, but then some evidence suggests he never really was able to let it go. That's his problem not Ali's, but the apology isn't really the issue, the issue is all the stuff he said in the first place which cased death threats to Frazier and his family. That's pretty bloody big in my book. Yes Ali was a wonderful boxer, and yes he was a great talker and personality, I never said he wasn't. But all this looking at your celebrity heroes through rose tinted glasses pisses me off. It's like all the people that ignore the fact their musical heroes were sleeping with teenage girls back in the day, whilst at the same time going on about how terrible that footballer was for sleeping with a teenage girl (it was, I'm not suggesting otherwise). But it's pure hypocrisy. Just because you liked someone doesn't mean they should get a pass for everything. Anyway, I'll bow out now.

I'd add that that's not really entirely true. And an apology years later (which Frazier had to accept or get slagged off once again as the bitter man who just wouldn't let it go) doesn't really undo damage done at the time. I loved Ali, but as KK says, this is now part of his legacy.

I thought exactly the same kibris, but first mate's post above does also raise the fact that this could make life miserable for the people living behind it.
-
Indeed. And I'm certainly not laying all of Frazier's ills at Ali's feet by any stretch. But what Ali did to him runs way way way deeper than harmless pre match banter.
-
He should indeed be remembered for his equal rights campaigning. Just a damned shame he did it at the cost of Joe Frazier (and his family). That's the one thing I find it really hard to overlook, especially when Frazier had spoken up for him. Frazier died a poor and bitter man.

Thanks first mate. Many years ago up in Liverpool I lived across from the back of an Aldi, and was woken early every morning by "BEEP. THIS VEHICLE IS REVERSING" so I cam sympathise with that position.

Laughing at anyone calling The Ivy a traditional boozer. And before anyone has a funny turn. No I'm not slagging it off.

FFS, have a word. Ali was hardly respectful to everyone. It was a silly little joke which the great man and those close to him will never know about. And if anyone here took personal offence from it, I pity you.

The EDT is cool, but not for everyone. -
Haven't they already reached the group stages? Job done probably.

I think there might even be more space (old toilets?) hidden behind the wall at the back where the big screen is.
