You could equally accept that it's not everyone's bag, and that not everyone wants friendly neighbours knocking on their doors. Some people just want to be left the Hell alone, and that is up to them.. And for the record, we know most of the people on our street (and regularly do things for the elderly people either side of us), but how far should I go with my random door knocking in the next 364 days? The block? The post code? We don't tend to invite even our best friends round to our house though, as it is a health hazard with toys taking up every inch of floor space.

Because it will think it might get it's leg over on the other side?

woodrot is very good with cats.

Just to add that NorthcrossJo's attitude is lovely, and I am glad it is nice for you, but I suspect other people in a similar situation would not find it so lovely.

I think it's okay if people organise a route between a group of school friends and the parents are signed up to it. I don't like the knocking on stranger's doors bit. Yes you can argue that they will always be strangers if you never knock, but you don't know who is behind each door. You don't know if it's an elderly person for whom getting to the door to open it is a bit of an effort. You could say they should put a sign up. Why the hell should they have to!? I do buy sweets and give them to knockers up to about 8pm, but I will very much be hoping that I can avoid my kids going when they are older. I'll tell them why, and I'll buy them treats, but I don't want them running around bothering people, and I don't want to be out doing it with them quite frankly. And I don't think that is "Bah humbug", I think it's an opinion to which one is entitled.

Absolutely, plus a sharpening service for middle class elbows.

The biggest shock to me in this whole thing is that anyone was shocked. I'm not saying that I have not been gob smacked at the extent of his crimes, and the fact that he was able to access so many vulnerable people, but the fact that he was a child molester doesn't shock me in the least bit, he scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, the freak!

Indeed. They are to have especially narrow aisles so as to purposely discriminate against parents and breech their human rights.

Yes absolutely, no doubt whatsoever. And the meat counter will stock cat.

I love it when people get all upset and say things like "Oh, so am I not allowed to talk about something". Talk about whatever you like, and respect the right of everyone else to tell you they think you're talking shite. As long as they are not rude to you / swear at you / call you names, they have every right to disagree with your opinion. I haven't actually noticed all the previous cat threads, probably because I am not the least bit interested. This one got my attention because it's in the lounge, and it was the getting rid of the cat because little girl is demanding a dog that made me click on it. -

I think this thread is not so much about the animals, but the mother and whether or not she should be bowing to her child's every whim. Forget for a moment that we are talking about animals. Little girl begged mum for a toy she really wanted, then later begged mum to buy the latest version and sell the old one on ebay. What should mum do? -

Groupon is very dangerous, my wife is ocssessed! Yes there are great bargains, but you end up spending a fortune on things you never actually would have thought of buying. I've just ordered this steam mop even though we already have a steam cleaner!

Family Room users from the medical profession?

Yeah, I did wonder about that, but equally lots of people on here are quick to offer advise (which is great), but would be good to know what this advise is based on sometimes. I certainly wouldn't expect a doctor to come in here and say "sounds like your child has such&such, take the following action". But it would be good if they said those symptoms are consistent with such&such, take them to A&E to be on the safe side. -

I'm the person they see (pardon the pn) after the medical people. I help them live with the visual impairment. -

Otta replied to nubby'smums's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I really cannot believe that people want their buggies to annoy others and get in the way Indeed, I don't think anyone would imagine that people are going out thinking "who can I annoy today". I think people just don't think about other people sometimes. I am sure I don't always consider how my actions are effecting everyone around me. If a person goes through life considering how each and everything they do will affect everyone eose, then they are a better person than I am. I just don't think that person exists though* *The person I describe, not "a better person than I", as they are 10 a penny) -

I'd get this checked out. The Rod cells are the part of your eye that allow you to see in darker conditions, and if they start to deteriorate you see less well when it gets dark. Definitely worth getting this looked at! -

How old are you if you don't mind my asking? For the record, I'm not an ophthalmologist, I work in the social care / education sector with visually impaired people, but I do have quite a good knowledge of eye conditions, their symptoms, and how one can reduce the negative effects on daily life. But that's not really why I started the thread. -

Sabrina from Putney just doesn't sound very bright. -
Strawbs' thread made me think of this. There is a sticky thread at the top of this section from a GP who is concerned about people seeking medical advise on a forum like this. Whilst I accept the concerns, I also feel that there is often very good advise given on here from parents who have experienced various things with their own kids. I was wondering whether anyone on here is actually a medical professional? Not that it would / should replace going to the GP / Hospital when required, but would be nice to know that there is someone who's advise you know is coming from a pro. I am not a medical professional, but there are times when I've left my GP certain that I actually know more than them about some things! If anyone wants advise about visual impairments, I'm your man! ;-)

Baby Strawbs - yet another illness.. Advice please
Otta replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I usually look out for Buggie's advise, because I know she is a paediatric nurse at Kings, but good to know if there are other medical professionals on here who are willing to offer advise.
