I know what you mean, and it is a lovely building. But I just never felt comfortable (in a literal sense) sitting in there. I've had some lovely times in there over the years, but something about it just never appealed to me. Remember my sister working there (92/93) and it was always heaving back then (she used to serve the 15 year old me) and loads of the older Dulwich College boys amnd JAGS girls used to go there on a Friday night.

Exactly right. See also Cyclists / drivers. Entitled parents Annoying hipster types And so on, and so on. People (me included) are quick to tar a group with the same brush, based on the fact they were annoyed by one dickhead.

I think if you've got two 8 month olds who are likely to just sleep whilst you scoff a quick meal it's no problem. Personally for me though, due to budgetry constraints (which will hopefully ease gradually over the next few years), eating out / viusiting the pub with the wife are extremely rare. I wouldn't want them to be ruined by constantly worrying whether the kids were behaving / annoying anyone. We do loads with our kids, way more than I ever did as a kid, so I feel no guilt at all in saying that if I get to go to the pub, I don't want them anywhere near me!

I'm lucky to have my parents local, but they help out two days a week when the wife works, so reluctant to ask too much of them. Alas I don't have any friends with teenaged kids, they're all similar age to my kids, or my older friends have "kids" who are past that sort of stage. But a lot of people (probably the majority) don't have family close by because they have moved in to London from elsewhere. It's just not like it used to be when you'd grow up and buy a house down the street from your parents and loads of aunts / uncles / cousins.
  5. Spot on. Service tends to be awful. One time I went in there and got served immediately. I was properly taken aback. They need to make more of the lovely garden too.
  6. Baby sitters cost quite a bit of money.
  7. Hi anarchos. Dulwich Hamlet is definitely a good place for meeting Dulwich residents young and old. Also, of you are on facebook, look up a group called "we grew up in East Dulwich". Lots of people on there a lot older than me, so you might have some joy.
  8. To be fair, the Dog has never really had that much soul IMO. It is the only pub in that area, so has a monopoly. In my opinion they took that to mean they didn't really need to bother.
  9. Well yeah, you have use of both hands and little baby feels snug and secure. That said, in the heat we've had this last week, possibly not so good. You've always been a soppy sod around my kids, especially our pink and blue hooligan.

    DulwichFox

DF if your account was deactivated, then you would click on the name DulwichFox and get a screen saying something like "this user does not exist". That is not happening.
  11. Oh God, I actually went there for my dad's birthday a couple of weeks back. It hasn't changed since my last visit over a decade previously. Food was okay, but dull is the word.
  12. To be fair, if it wad a newborn that blows the bedtime argument out of the water. Newborns decide when you sleep, not the other way around. I never used a buggy when my girls were tiny, I was all about the sling.
  13. I suspect maxxi wasn't being entirely serious about the elbow thing. Sorry rahrahrah, but you're being too kind. This morning I was walking to the bus stop with my daughter on my shoulders. Two women walking towards me pushing buggies side by side on the pavement, heads towards each other, deep in conversation. I had to step off the pavement in to the road (with my child on my shoulders) to get out of their way. Neither of them acknowledged me, and truth be known I doubt either of them even noticed me. Is that typical of every parent? No, of course not. But Are there quite a few people like that out there? Yes. And they are selfish tw@ts

    A kindness

It is genuinely nice to read things like this.
  15. What Loz said. Our broker said he'd be in touch before our mortgage ends, but only because he'll want the new commision.
  16. I do have sympathy when it comes to the reversing alarms. Years ago I lived in a flat in Liverpool right opposite the loading bay at the back of an Aldi. Every morning I was woken up by "BEEP BEEP. THIS VEHICLE IS REVERSING" Repeated over and over for several minutes.
  17. Yep, excellent shout Loz.
  18. Haha, that was my first thought to be honest. Shops load up stock very early, guess they're the same. They're not really builders are they.

  21. Don't really need to be here, but the kids are doing my nut in, and there's a lock on the door.
  22. They are not being paid to do their "research" by the shop owners. Their findings will no doubt suit the agenda of those that have commissioned them.
  23. Foxy you are sounding pretty paranoid right now. For what it's worth, I don't think there is.anything wrong with checking in whilst you're away, I remember posting from Australia years ago. But starting a thread to basically say "no one here knows about East Dulwich, and I'm not giving it a second thought whilst I'm here" does seem a bit ironic.
  24. Being as the 27th has come and gone, can thisbthread just be left to die now.
  25. No one wants to smell shit whilst trying to enjoy a good red with some stuffed peppers.
