  1. It has over the years spawned some of the best threads ever. Breast feeding in the MIND Shop was absolute gold! But as with other sections, a lot of former posters have drifted away. Possibly because they're past that early stages when parenthood feels so new and exciting, but I know a few that just got fed up.
  2. I thought someone had said he wasn't at The Golden Lion. May have to pop in and have a look soon.

He was already on the slide before he left Liverpool I think. Finished a season early to have knee surgery and not sure he has ever been the same since. But his scoring record at Liverpool was awesome. Also, whilst his league form was less than spectacular at Chelsea, he scored 17 European goals in 40 appearances, which ain't bad.

Torres was largely a flop at Chelsea, but let's not forget the goals he did.manage tended to be huge goals.
  6. On another thread (which I don't want to hijack) someone said this. ------------------------------------------------------- > Interesting! > > I'm guessing the researchers omitted to read the > EDF Lounge postings of some of the regular > moaners, complainers and nay-sayers! > > Out in the real world though, this doesn't > surprise me - ED/SE22 is a great place to live. I > love it. So is the EDF truly representative of East Dulwich? For what it's worth, I don't think it is. It's representative of a large number of residents, but another large number are very much under represented. Hoping for a discussion rather than a load of the usual.
  7. If bad driving is a factor I'm surprised Penge wasn't the unhappiest area in the UK.

Speaking of flops, why on earth is the usually savvy Mourinho looking like signing Falcao? Or will he get the best out of him? Seems an odd move.

Cool, can't say as I know anything about him, but him and Coutinho already playing together at international level can only be a good thing. Think Liverpool have accepted Sterling will go for ?50m, so why not use it on a couple of real quality signings rather than several mediocre ones.
  10. I think the church address is Friern Road, but can be accessed from Barry Road, and the entrance to the actual church faces Barry Road. It's behind flats a little way up from Underhill Road.
  11. Yes, the original St Clement's was bombed and totally destroyed dring WW2. All that remains is the lid of the original font, which is still in the church (horrid looking thing). The church was rebuilt and in the 80s (I think) it joined forces with St Peters (Church with tall steeple opposite Grove Tavern / Harvester) and became St Clement's with St Peter's. Then the monks who lived at St Peter's went back to their mother Abbey (a place called Worth Abbey), and St Peter's got sold off, leaving St Clement's with the joint parish. Couple of small photos of the old church here http://www.stclementwithstpeter.btck.co.uk/About%20us

Yep. And I wonder how much of it was to tell everyone about the great things they were going to do, and how much was to slag off their opponent.
  14. Fine dining and football.
  15. Earlier I was going to say that I thought foxy was a good egg, but could be painfully negative. Then I read DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > It's not that I don't buy into the "zeitgeist" > (spirit of the age or spirit of the time) of newly > affluent East Dulwich. > > I've had my time. it now time for others to have > their time. > > But they need to leave just a little space. > All this "if you don't like it. you know where > the door is." attitude is bad. > I actually agree with foxy 100% on the above. And this is why at times O think Louisa can't help herself, because with some posters there is a certain level of smugness. I also find it personally insulting when people suggest that before the year 2000 when it was miraculously saved, ED was a total dump. It bloody well wasn't!

Part of that could be because no tory voter that I've seen tends to actually set out for me why they hold their opinions. Instead they just belittle Labour. Both as bad as each other (the parties and their supporters) in terms of trying to 'win" arguments by putting the other side down, rather than actually... You know... Winning the actual argument. And no one can deny that the Tories have the dosh to do a hell of a job at that during campaigns.
  18. I don't want a bar full of layered up shouting people. A pub showing sports doesn't have to be that. But something different to all the other local pubs would be nice.
  19. This is just painful.
  20. i.e. More of the same for ED.
  21. Well said *bob*, spot on. I sometimes agree with things Louisa says, but in a "boy who cried wolf" way, these good points do get lost in the whole "blow-in" stuff which people have just tired of seeing. Every good comic needs to update their act. Although there are some posters that can't stand Louisa that I really enjoy seeing her wind up.

That's how I feel. Despite it's faults, I am a proud Londoner, and I am proud that my kids are little Londoners (terrible dropping of T's and all).

  24. To find something funny it's important to first "get it". Therein lies the problem here.
  25. The Plough shows football but only on small TVs. The Castle has a big screen but it's rubbish so everyone watches the small TVs. EDT gets ridiculously busy and is really badly laid out for it IMO. Would rather miss a match than watch it there. Somewhere with space and a good quality big screen would be most welcome. Can't comment on The Actress, the place just leaves me cold.
