  1. "drives me nuts" An early example of this phrase can be seen written in The Bilioxi Daily Herald, a newspaper printed in 1884. The idiom is written under an advice column, where people could write in asking a woman named Ann Landers for advice: snigger...
  2. oh I'm sure you CAN buy a bottle of beer for 8 quid (or more) - but it won't be peroni or corona But the fact that it's doable doesn't mean it's done
  3. ", your staff should behave like people who work for any other business. I.e. they should be helpful and sympathetic towards complaints" gee, could you point me towards some of these businesses? I would say most companies (there are notable exceptions) are desperately poor at complaint handling
  4. Back atcha!! But seriously (is that another one? Oops) why the irritation?
  5. again, this isn't like a bank where front line staff deal with a queue of people, some of whom wish to complain it's an tidal wave of people getting off a train, overly annoyed, and taking it out on people who can't do anything about it You can see it yourself when it's happening And on a day like yesterday when it's incessant, these people are doing an amazing job by just not retaliating IMO
  6. "our language" hmmm.....
  7. People using Americanisms doesn't bother me in the slightest - language is cross-pollinating all the time. Americans use brit phrases too there was never a time when language was "nailed down" and that's the version we should be using - that way lies madness! All part of the give and take
  8. exactly otta imagine standing at those gates with hundreds of irate commuters every minute either giving you the skunk-eye or "complaining" - what exactly are you meant to do? Stand there with a clicker couting complaints and report them up the chain?
  9. various managers have come and gone from The Cherry Tree They come on here and promise a new beginning. We try and warn them. Sometimes they are gone before we hit "post message" Hope all is well with you
  10. yeah I like those places I mean, I know they are transparent branding excercises but they are also places where I can drink something half decent
  11. of course of course Anything.. umm... GOOD ever happen in those places? just so you don't stand accused of being negative unfairly you see
  12. Must be. I imagine it will come once the concourse gets started properly. Some sort of mezzanine job like Kings Cross?
  13. interesting article about how much people will spend on music http://recode.net/2014/03/18/the-price-of-music/
  14. has it been nearly 3 years...? wow http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10733913/UK-government-to-legalise-DVD-and-CD-ripping.html
  15. ah The Oast House - RIP. (yeah right)
  16. and you wonder why people pick you up on being negative, eh Foxy?
  17. if you typed a smiley and it changes it to MMS, that's naught if you inserted a smiley pic, then yeah more obviously MMS In any case far better to use whatsapp or similar app for texting/messaging as everything, including video is free
  18. "too right they get abuse, such a rubbish service." situation yesterday was grim and I missed an important meeting, but how does that justify abusing staff who had no part in the service problems, are paid little money and who are there to try and help you You are just being a dick if you abuse them
  19. I suspect station staff are slumped at the barriers after soaking up abuse from passengers every minute, due to events beyond their control.
  20. Same reason why people ask "where??" When you mention Val's or red apple newsagent That end of the lane doesn't register for most people But agreed about the butcher being good
  21. Exactly that quids. Coming to England in the 60s, 70s and 80s was absurdly different to last 10 years No internet, no access to Irish radio or tv, prohibitively expensive flights home. Ireland was a world away Now... Meh. An hour away for cost of a few pints . No prejudice. Decent jobs and money. Clinging to a different culture as was just isn't required
  22. What kind of comment is shush if you're not Irish?? I am and thought the post from cle was spot on
  23. Glen those practices don't come from politics (mostly) Those measures are common place in predicate companies and are seen as "best practice" So public companies are employing them too. Because public companies are "run" by givernment it might seem to some it's coming from politics but that's just the garb of the employer
  24. To not be pro eu doesn't make anyone a xenophobe But you would be delerious to suggest xenophophes don't gravitate to the parties most anti. The suggestion that ukip and it's supporters are merely anti eu is a stretch
  25. I repeat, not all musicians agree that spotify is bad for them
