  1. heh - not suggesting anyone on here be responsible for doing anything But if you think it's less troubling then last one then I guess we dffer on that point. I see the attractiveness of that argument (if it's cyclical we've been here before and will be again) but as I said, the amounts of money this time are of a different order of magnitude. In 2008 most of the western economies were interchangibly affected by the global nature of events. There was a motivation to look at global solutions. But this is entirely local and self-inflicted. And with too much resting on it I think the fall out of this crash will far exceed the 2008 one suggestions about what to do? Pick any measure you like, but if the population with property is too self-interested, or the powers in charge too in-denial then any discussion is moot. It will just play out to it's natural conclusion But off top of my head, the usual controls - much stricter lmits on borrowing multiples, multiple home ownership, buy to let etc. - seem entirely sensible
  2. isn't that a bit laissez faire EP? yes London housing market is always ferociously active, yes a bubble isn't news But the amounts of money involved, the number of people pushing/stretching because "now or never" and the ramifications of this particular bubble bursting are what make the current situation so troubling
  3. I would back up quids's post by saying same thing is happening where I work My take on that is that it underlines my whole point - people who can are now behaving as they always do before a crash, with a herd-like mentality. It may make individual sense for them (then again it might not in the near future), but it's very panicky behaviour
  4. I think admin of EDF assisted someone with setting up the WDF forum, gave hime the templates and pointers but I don't think it's his repsonsibility Not sure if it's anyones now, may well be just orphaned?
  5. Heh Frimpong lasted half an hour before a red card Well dench
  6. We can put people called " Steve " in the " bothered?" Category it seems Aren't they lovely hmmmm?
  7. If you were a kid in an area of kids with knives you'd be tempted to carry. Plenty of studies in the area. Wouldn't surprise me if the victim had a knife. Do we deport him as well? Not saying any of it is a good thing but it needs more considered analysis and understanding beyond "deport em" We don't have a spare Australia in 2014 in any case
  8. Prepping for my 50th in a few years? Counts as old to me
  9. Locking people up and throwing keys away. For carrying something The 18th century called and wants their policy back. It's prepared to offer slum housing and scurvy in exchange
  10. Not nosey enough http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1260302,1260894,page=1#msg-1260894
  11. People saying that site is too small for 60 children? That was two rooms when I went to school - how can a place that big not be big enough for 4 rooms There were countless police, cells, stables yadda yadda. PLENTY room for 60 pupils But I'm glad I didn't study planning. Turns out all I need to make a decision is 15 seconds on the internet
  12. Won't someone think of the children! Won't someone think of the quiet roads! Won't someone think about me me me and my narrow view of world!!! It's a school. In an area that needs one. Won't be first on a busy road and won't be last. Ease off on the nimbyism people (Anyone got stats on how many horses died from all this traffic when they were stationed there?)
  13. "until the manager's interviews, where both of them looked like total @#$%&." a) we all knew that about both of them anyway b) come on, it's cracking entertainment!
  14. true true - was just trying to give context to a hardy perrenial
  15. For all the times say " why can't we deal with snow when rest of world can" it's worth noting that they don't. No region with irregular snow does http://slate.me/1exlIQ1
  16. I totally get supply and demand, why some areas cost more than others, why there aren't enough homes etc etc. I have no argument with any of that I get that London is unique and has always drawn people from afar What I don't get is where quite so many people are getting the money from to pay for these homes. I get where some people have got the money from (bought small years ago and sold up the chain etc). But something isn't quite right. I can't put my finger on it, and I understand why some people say it's same as it's ever been. and yet, and yet....
  17. How do you, like, get through a day TE reading your posts is beginning to sound like the forum equivalent of Chicken Licken. The sky isn't falling down "swapping there animal health products with Merck. (makers of mmr) So no worries root, its all in safe hands. " and what does that mean? You are now dragging in discredited MMR junk into the argument as well? "aahhhhit's not REALLY discredited - read THIS link and THAT link and.." dear god shoot me now
  18. putting the "bolic" in parabolic "The evidence of Stevenage getting a result in the 4th round of the FA Cup is about 50%". hmmmmmm
  19. I like your thinking otta
  20. The evidence for your Stevenage hope wasn't lacking - it just showed an extremely small chance of it happening. Your heart overrode your head and you let it. And therefore I pronounce you a woo merchant ;-)
  21. on the subject of Santa and "finding out" I remember being traumatised by the revelation. I don't think my parents told me, it was just the steady accretion of facts Can't remember how old I was - pretty young but I suspect kids these days will all have found out via the internet before they hit 4
  22. of course once we identify a flying object, it's no longer a UFO But I take your point - and I would be well up for ghosts being real But being realistic and weighing up the balance of probability - just sifting through all the reported sightings (particularly of UFOs) there seems to be a pattern of dimmness/gullibility. And given how much time/money as been spent on trying to find ANYTHING to do with them, the chances of them existing are miniscule. I'm happy to be proved wrong but no point telling lot's of people they are REAL either (you haven't done that but some people will insist!) As for my kids.. well, there's the rub. I'm loving playing along with the whole Santa/Easter thing but if I have to compare grown ups posting on a public forum with them, I know who comes off worst ;-)
