I remember Candid Camera when I think Bernard Braden was doing it in the 60s. One person stood in the middle of nowhere, another joined and another and another until the queue was miles long and no-one had any idea what they were queuing for.
  2. More recently, 265 Lordship Lane used to be the headquarters of D.B. Services, a cleaning company. I used to work in the office, telemarketing part time, to supplement my income while setting up a business. I see that the company has expanded beyond all recognition, now having offices elsewhere with many area managers. In my day, there was a maximum of aboout 10 office staff - seems incredible that there are now going to be 9 flats on the site!
  3. According to the Evening Standard property section yesterday, West Norwood is the new East Dulwich .
  4. Renata Is all Forest Hill road being monitored? Nothing is being done about large removal vans parking on yellow lines between Honor Oak Rise and Honor Oak Park and between Honor Oak Rise and Brenchkey Gardens. Even when parked legallly there is absolutely no visibility. These vans are not parked for the purpose of removal - merely for somewhere to park when not in use.
  5. I was admitted to Kings A @ E ithe middle of the night as an emergency and, for a different condition, am in their Dermatology Outpatients department for at least 4 scheduled appointments in each year. I have been going there for many years and I cannot praise their dedication, medical expertise, empathy and courteous consideration highly enough, on the part of both doctors and nursing and reception staff.
  6. I couldn't take having my ears pierced, but have had more blood tests than I care to remember, without difficulty. The secret is to look away or close your eyes.
  7. I second Forest Hill Road Group Practice. Been with the practice 16 years and never had cause for complaint. Drs McColl and Scorer are two excellent female doctors, but there are other excellent female doctors there as well. The nursing staff are also first rate.

    Where is it?
  9. You could try Guiseppes. I was taken there for one of my birthday celebrations mid-week and it was absolutely packed. Food portions too big for me but everyone else devoured everything in sight with gusto! Excellent pub inexpensive drinks upstairs.
  10. I liked Titos but I think it is more of a family type restaurant which welcomes young children. Certainly, when I went there with my extended family, they treated the children brilliantly.
  11. Yes he is according to newspapers
  12. My idea of perfection is a pub which supplies good, fresh, value for money meals, drinks at reasonable prices, a large selection of each kind of spirits, is free of screaming, uncontrolled children but, most of all, where one can relax and read the papers in peace over a few drinks without being made to rush to make way for incoming customers. The Rose in Forest Hill road used to come pretty close, but is presently not serving food. (except for pizza one or two evenings a week). I was recently at a pub in Suffolk which had two restaurants, one set aside for accompanied children, the other for adults with no children. It seemed to work very well. On the spirit front, Franklins, one of my favourite pub/restaurants, has introduced me to Sparrow gin, made in Peckham (Peckham Rye). You may like to give this a go? It is quite like Hendricks. It would be good to be able to watch some sport, but perhaps in an area away from the customers there just for drinks, chat, meals etc? The Dartmouth Arms in Forest Hill and the Dolphin in Sydenham (under same ownership) are very succesful. They focus very strongly on personal customer service and fresh, locally sourced produce. Television is in the pub area only for events such as Wimbledon, Olympics, World Cup football, Tri-nations, Six Nations etc. The Dolphin usually stages a play outside each Summer. Not being a beer drinker, I can't vouch for their beer, but I never heard any complaints about it. They have an extensive wine list, and an adequate spirits selection. Children are not allowed (at least in the restaurant) after 7pm. I am not in any way connected with the pubs I have mentioned. Just thought that, as you have asked for suggestions, you may be interested in how these long established, popular, pub restaurants operate.
  13. It is definitely Southwark's responsibility. I have very nearly been knocked down by a car at the intersection of Wood Vale and Forest Hill Road and have had near collisions when travelling as a passenger from Honor Oak Rise into Forest Hill Road (both directions).
  14. Meant wasn't sure whether Brenchley is SE22 or SE23. Not that it matters or is relevant to the post, but out of curiosity, is it SE22 or SE23?
  15. It is in Southwark's jurisdiction. The situation is somewhat peculiar because parts of Forest Hill Road are actually in SE23 which one would have thought would be in the borough of Lewisham, but are actually in Southwark. Not sure about Brenchley Gardens, but certainly Honor Oak Rise is in SE23. The sign designating Lewisham is situate in the vicinity of the bus stop at the Honor Oak end of Forest Hill Road. Residents of Honor Oak Rise pay Council tax to Southwark.
  16. There are other accidents waiting to happen in Forest Hill Road. Vehicles travelling down Forest Hill Road turn right into Brenchley Gardens; vehicles travelling up Forest Hill Road turn left into Brenchley Gardens, which makes it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians attempting to cross Brenchley Gardens, particularly when drivers do not reduce their speed. Slightly further up,removal vans and other large vehicles are often parked on Forest Hill Road just below and just above Honor Oak Rise. Even when parked outside the yellow line, it is impossible for vehicles turning right from Honor Oak Rise into Forest Hill Road and also for vehicles travelling up Forest Hill Road, to see oncoming vehicles. I contacted Southwark Council a couple of years ago about these matters, to no avail. Perhaps Renata/James could also look into these issues, please? The Wood Vale intersection with Forest Hill Road also presents problems for pedestrians when vehicles are turning right from Forest Hill Road into Wood Vale at high speeds.
  17. On the other hand a potent forum could be the making of his business.
  18. I will not go to any restaurant, bar or pub which refuses to be discussed on this or any other forum.
  19. Well said. Agree with every word.
  20. Was there a passenger in the cab and was the car just parked or was anyone in it? Was anyone hurt?
  21. Thank you first mate. It will be interesting to see what part precedent plays. Elsewhere, the draft servicing management plan, referring specifically to M & S, and its proposed delivery and waste policies, makes for interesting reading.
  22. No-one should have preference over anyone else - Dulwich should be catering for everyone's tastes - not just those who prefer Iceland.
