"Should we be talking about teabagging here? ;)" - Steady on old thing! We havent been properly introduced. Where's my trombone? To be fair, US Bacon, in proper context is good. Bacon with pancakes and maple syrup was an unexpected pleasure. Thick cut British back bacon (from Borough Market) has got to be the thing with your fried eggs (no choice as to what way up), baked beans (Heinz), fried black pudding, mushrooms and a fried slice. Washed down with tea, huge quantities of the congenial brew.

The spur track south of Peckham (visible on trains from ED station going into London Bridge) seems to be well on the way to completion. I wonder if the work at Denmark Hill would stop the line itself being completed? The Overground line could start running and just not stop at Denmark Hill until work there is complete. We could start to see ghost Overground trains using the new route to bed in. It would also not surpise me if an early limited service was started in time for the Olympics - a nice bit of PR for the Overground and for Boris.

Indeed. Happy to drink coffee with breaky in foreign parts. In Blighty, its tea. Liptons are to blame for the lack of tea drinking in many areas of the former Empire (aka "The World"). Liptons tea bags in those little yellow paper envelopes. Horrible things. Friends in Germany (I know!) proudly showed me the tea bags they had purchased for my visit. Liptons. Thanksfully I had come armed with my own supply of tea baggage (Sainsburys Red Label - robust, not subtle) and was able to educate them. Liptons tea bags went in the compost bin, Germans suitably thankful and a proper balance restored to the world.

Atticus - well spotted, now edited for bus related accuracy. Am having a cup of tea as I type, with a nice choccy biccy thingy. Tea and curry. We are in reality, Indians.

Geography of ED is quite easy. It is bisected by Lordship Lane, which runs North-South(ish) uphill from Goose Green (quite green , no geese but we have parakeets) toward Forest Hill (hillyish, no forest). Westside ED is posh, next to Dulwich village and Dulwich park. Very fertile area, lots of young parents. Eastside ED is more common, next to Nunhead (famous for having a Victorian cemetary). Southend (uphill) has the Horniman Museum (no sniggering), which is an interesting way to spend a wet Sunday afternoon. Northend (downhill) has the aforementioned Goose Green and the East Dulwich Tavern. A little further north is Peckham. Famous for stabbings. You are arriving at a nice time, the summer is slowly starting. The good people of ED are to be found sitting outside the East Dulwich Tavern, attempting to turn their pasty, spotty skins into an interesting salmon pink. An exercise made all the more interesting by the exhaust fumes of the 37, 40, 176 and 185 buses. We have a remarkable number of curry restaurants. About 12 on and around Lordship Lane. Nobody can agree which is the best. There is a fine Curry Club which meets on a monthly basis, organised on this very Forum. Its a good way of meeting people. Quite strange people, but they are people. Mostly. Its lovely.

Gingerbeer, having survived the welcoming banter of the intelligencia of the East Dulwich Forum, I am guessing that you will fit in very well. We havent had a Forum drinks for some time, I might suggest that when GB arrives, we (collectively) meet for a welcoming snifter? There are always groups of us drinking somewhere. How hard could it be to organise something? :-S GB - you must remember that we English are for the most part not as tall or shiny as Americans, this being due to a lifelong diet of suet and tea. Neither of which are of any nutritional value. The Scots, Welsh and Irish are similarly stunted, but drink more. Gymnasia are mostly used as polling stations and so are visited once every 4 to 5 years by the general populace. Dont worry about it though, the place is full of Australians and New Zealanders who are also tall and shiny but normally have native tatoos to reflect that tribal origins. Odd as most of them descend from Victorian villains from Whitechapel. You really have to like a curry. Surviving in East Dulwich is quite difficult if you dont like a curry.

Its a custom designed bus for London; and could be a custom designed bus for anyone of a score or more cities. The Volvo buses on the streets of a core of cities all have the same basic chassis and body form. However, they all differ in detail, that is the nature of modern manufacturing. Whether its Volvo or Mercedes or whoever, they all invest many millions of pounds in developing a new bus, then sell it in various forms and adaptations. The same will be true of the Routemaster. There is nothing about this bus that will stop it selling elsewhere.

The antis do seem to WANT the tung to fail as it allows them to express their anti-Boris angst. No reason why this bus shouldnt succeed anymore or less than any other. To say that not many countries use double deckers is bizzare.

Jolly good meal at Swadesh last night. Looking back, Swadesh would seem to be the Curry Clubs favourite restaurant as we have been there 3 times in the past 12 months or so. Jaflong on 29/3 for the next one. Not been there for a while. Surma, Dulwich Tandoori and Curry Cabin are due visits as well. -

Thanks Mick. Who else is coming? East at 8ish to, drinks at Franklins 7.15? -
This assumes that they will only be bought by London bus operators. As this bus must be the first bus produced with an eye to its aethetics, if it is reliable and cost effective to run, then it should sell well across the Globe. All new vehicles cost alot to develop. Few of them provide an opportunity to grind political axes.

Papa John's Advertising Trailer
Michael Palaeologus replied to OAKIE95's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live opposite the place and, so far, the sky has not fallen on my head. Thus, I conclude that Papa John's is not the work of the devil. The dry cleaners and other businesses in that row regularly park their vehicles on the pavement and, as noted above, LB Southwark has thoughfully provided a drop curb to facilitate this. In addition to the dry cleaners, we have a chinese, a chippy and an Italian restaurant, so a pizza place doesnt change the area much. Not had a PJ pizza. Think I must. -
