  1. Given that the buses our only means of transport a safe way of walking to the bus stops is essential. Not much point in buying tonnes of salt and grit of it doesnt stop people from breaking their necks on the sheet ice that is covering the paths and roads that run infront of most of our houses and flats.
  2. Great that the buses have got their act together. Crap that the railways havent.
  3. Gutted. Sick as a parrot. You can all watch it on Sky.
  4. Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hmmmm... you deliberately called it soccer didn't > you? Just to wind us footy fans up. I know your > game Mr P. Busted. Bugger. ;-)
  5. It is definately sand, I have been passed again. In the absence of the Council somebody has taken the initiative. The roads and pavements round there are covered in black ice. Apart from the sandy bits.
  6. Thank you Mockney. Quite so. There are many things that are only on Sky. That fact in and of itself isnt a reason to put them all on pub TVs. If soccer was on terrestrial TV it would still be shown in pubs. The fact that Sky has a monopoly for live soccer doesnt make it "special", it just shows that money is the priority of those selling the licence. It annoys me that the RFU and ECB have come to similar deals with the Dirty Digger. They are money grubbing old farts too. I enjoy watching rugby and cricket in a pub. I have no problem with those that similarly wish to watch soccer, I just dont like the game. However there is no qualitative difference between sport and light entertainment, thats what spectator sport is. Entertainment. For those for whom soccer is "their life" need to get one.
  7. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > But you enjoy watching the rugby internationals, > most of which are on Sky, hence my point. Absolutely Keef. I wasnt arguing that Football shouldnt be shown on pub TV, just that there is no difference between sport and any other form of light entertainment in this regard. The argument that Sport is in someway special (in a good way) is deeply flawed.
  8. I absolutely agree with Rosie, apart from the arse related stuffing bit. I enjoy watching rugby in a pub but not football because I dont like football; to be specific I cant stand the hyperbole and load of football related old wank that is spouted by otherwise wise and sensible folk. Much of modern sport (especially football) is nothing more than popular entertainment. Overpaid, morally corrupt and stupid participants, their grasping managers, owners who are interested in money and not in the content and fans who should know better. Therefore showing X-Factor or Celebrity Come Dancing in a pub as showing a Premiership football game. At least the fans of such shows enjoy the entertainment with a tongue firmly in their cheeks and get the joke. Sadly footie fans are incapable of seeing the absurdity of the beautiful game.
  9. I drove down that road this morning. I saw sand being shovelled out of the back of a white van. Couldnt tell whether it was a Council contractor or good citizen.
  10. I drove to Old Kent Road Asda this morning. The main roads are fine, the side roads are covered in black ice as are many of the pavements.
  11. .. and 9 months after the "day of snow" a baby did appear.
  12. Three deliveries in one day! A miracle.
  13. Heavy snow now. Forecast from the BBC for SE22 is pretty much continuous snow for the rest of the day and into the evening.
  14. Indian Mischief South Indian veggie restaurant, where Chopstix was ............
  15. Sean - all 8 year olds are scary. That is rooted in real life.
  16. Moi = :( - am in pain Later, hopefully = B) when super duper prescription pain killers have kicked in
  17. Good spot you! "East Dulwich in East London" ? Please!! Think of the house prices. The old ED Police Station looked better than the newer, falling apart one we have now. Marvellous to see a traditional Met Police plod seriously discussing how he nicked a Dalek.
  18. Trust LB is applying ointment on a regular basis.
  19. The number of curry houses on LL seems to drive up quality and keep prices reasonable. In my experience the BL curry houses are generally mediocre and trade on the BL name rather than the quality of their food and service. There are one or two notable exceptions but these are often just off BL.
  20. Health and Wellbeing - been around for a while. Given the number of people made ill by stress it wouldnt seem to be a waste of time to me. I dont think that cynicism about the importance of "happiness" in the work place and home is justified. Cynicism concerning the motivation of politician's interest in the subject and indeed how they implement measures is entirely justified.
  21. I regularly head to the Midlands of a weekend and have done for years. On a working Friday I get up at 5am, leave at 5.45am - drive over Waterloo Bridge, through the Strand underpass and on to Euston Rd, turn left and keep going on the A40 to Hillingdon. Park at Hillingdon tube station at about 6.15am, pay ?5 for all day parking and get the tube back into town. At the end of the day the tube back to Hillingdon takes about 40 minutes and then in the car it takes about 10 minutes to get onto the M40. From ED to the M40 on a Friday late PM would take about 21/2 hours.
  22. Its where Chopstix was. Up the Lane on the left. Trust all is well downstairs Brum.
  23. Just walked past the veggie place and the menu looks very good. However, its seems to have limited seating - unless there are more seats at the back that cant be seen from window? So - we will probably need to book a table and so I will need confirmations the day before (20th). Ta.
  24. .. or Swadesh. I need a 2011 desk calendar and the Swadesh 2010 calendar has served very well. Happyman, where are you? :))
  25. I can do the 21st and we did discuss doing the veggie place when we last met. Will they have Turkey on?
