In case it's useful, here is my backstreets route to Ladywell fields to the start of the Waterlink way.
-
@rendelharris from Ladywell South is definitely all paved paths and roads, apart from the South Norwood Country Park if you choose to have a spin around that which is a bit rougher, might struggle on a road bike. North of Ladywell it looks to be all paved as well.
-
Aha, I just came on to suggest the Waterlink way, had a lovely amble along there this summer from Ladywell to South Norwood Country Park and back. This and other routes are on the sustrans site http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/route/waterlink-way.

There was this list http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,1633934,1656681 which suggests the Cherry Tree quiz is on some Mondays but I think that's out of date. Not sure they are doing quizzes at all now. Would be good to have an updated list if anyone can add to this.

I'd love to go on some nice long country bike rides from East Dulwich but I have yet to find a route from here that didn't start with a good 45 minutes of misery on busy roads (e.g. through Crystal Palace to West Wickham etc on main roads, which seems to be the usual route for the cycling clubs). Has anyone found any nice long rides from here that either take more pleasant routes out, or involve a straightforward train ride? Routes that involve lovely views or excellent pub lunches are particularly welcome. Thanks!

Dulwich & W Norwood MP's response to referendum result
katanita replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Several posts here addressing Helen Hayes as if she is on this thread, but @worldwiser (the OP) was posting the response received after getting in contact with her. Helen Hayes won't see your comments here unless you send them to her directly (or unless she does happen to read the EDF after all, but I don't believe she has posted here before?). -
Not sure who that's directed at @civilservant, the post from LadyNorwood is reposting SNARL from facebook, which was based on my call to them. I said to Bouddicca that I didn't think the dog was acting very aggressively in a way that made it a threat to me, it was more like it was toying with the fox. It didn't snarl at me or try and hurt me as I got the fox away from it, only the fox. So, I think she included that to make the point that it probably wasn't a threat to people, ie, don't worry unduly about approaching it. Obviously it needs to come off the streets for both its own safety and for other small animals to which it clearly does pose a danger. Anyway, this is actually off topic for this thread, which is cat deaths unrelated to this issue, and this dog must have been found by now so unless anyone has new info, suggest we leave it? And this was all very late last night and a bit stressful so let's not nitpick eh?
-
Yes, I made the call, posted it in Lost and Found here too. Spent ages at around midnight last night doing circuits of the area trying to find the dog afterwards, but no luck. It was quite a big dog so I'm surprised if no-one else encountered it, it clearly shouldn't have been out on his own, I hope it was found safely. Didn't really know what to do about the fox once it had passed, had to just leave it there, poor thing. Maybe should call it in to council environment team to get the body removed?

A subject dear to my heart. Mestizo on Hampstead road for up-market Mexican and excellent margaritas, there are also a couple of places in Brixton Market, one of which at least is good but I can't remember which, sorry. Also, there is one on Abbeville Road which I've heard is good but haven't been, Comensal, I think. I'd second Cravings in Peckham for a good home cooked Mexican style (they also do arepa and guasacaca which I tried yesterday and was delicious). Wish there were more good Mexicans though! I'm afraid I don't count Wahaca in that any more. For Peruvian food I do like the Ceviche restaurants - Ceviche in Soho and Old Street, and Andina in Shoreditch. Would love to know if there are others that are good. For general SA/Mexican goods I love Sol Andina on the Old Kent Road, although Franklin's farm shop also stocks some of the Cool Chile range. Plus, there is a new Mexican cheese dairy in Peckham, http://gringadairy.com, not tried yet.

So, Sherpa wasn't possible for Ourscreen to get, due to licensing issues, I suspect because it has a TV screening on the Discovery Channel this Sunday at 9pm. I might try again at a later stage because I bet it's stunning on the big screen. However, they did suggest the Epic of Everest, https://www.ourscreen.com/film/The-Epic-Of-Everest, about Mallory and Irvine's climb. If I created a screening in May, would anyone be interested?

I got there later yesterday just as they were reopening after a problem with the oven, which is why they were shut when you tried to go in. Normally open from one. Had a very good burrito, will be back! thanks for putting on the screening yesterday, what a fantastic documentary Meru is, amazing cinematography. I've also had a fairly positive initial response from Ourscreen about Sherpa, they said: Thanks for getting in touch. We're keeping a log of all the requests we receive and adding films on a regular basis. We will add you to our mailing list to keep you updated and fingers crossed we'll have Sherpa on the site soon - sorry we don't already! Certainly sounds like there's sufficient interest for your screening so we'll look into adding the film as soon as possible!

As I understand it the nearest fox incident has been West Norwood. See above re contacting SNARL for more information, if you really need it. edhistory Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You mean those SNARL items that are nowhere near > East Dulwich? > > I would like to know if there have been any fox > incidents in our area. > > John K

For more detailed information @edhistory (or anyone else) I suggest contacting SNARL directly or checking their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/South-Norwood-Animal-Rescue-and-Liberty-SNARL-624100301029007/?fref=ts. Be aware that they are incredibly busy responding to this though.

OKaaay, could we possibly leave it at that and let this very useful and important thread go back to helping people stay informed etc? I keep seeing the email notifications pop up and wondering if something else has happened. Obviously I'm glad that it hasn't but if we don't keep this thread on topic people will stop following it.
-
Great, will request Sherpa and set up a screening if it turns up on Ourscreen. In the meantime anyone else interested please add your voice to this thread, will help to convince them to get the film on their books.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
katanita replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for the response James, appreciate that there is not much more you can do, that's still helpful. From further research I think the best advice is to contact SNARL as well as the police, they are working tirelessly to investigate and assist the police, collecting bodies etc. Their pinned Facebook post has more information https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=830240073748361&id=624100301029007&fref=nf. -

Hi James, Do you have any advice or further information for this horrible thread about cat mutilations? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1636757 It sounds like whoever is doing this has started up here as well, it would be good to be better informed and find out if there is more we could do. Thanks.
