  1. Good idea, I've messaged Lordship Lane vets. I'm also checked with SNARL for confirmation, and they said that they are aware of the one from a few days ago. So grim.
  2. Very concerning as a cat owner in the exact area we're talking about. Without wishing to scaremonger, it does feel though that all cat owners in the area need to be made aware so they can keep their cats in. I'd also like some more information about how this is happening (e.g. just at night? only on the street, or is this person getting into back gardens? etc) and what the current police response is. I have absolutely no idea how to do all this, but I'd be very happy to help if someone else has. Is this one for Safer Neighbourhoods? Leafleting? A public meeting? The council?
  3. Ooh, thanks for organising, what a great idea! Have booked. In the same vein, I'd love to see Sherpa but missed it at the cinema. Sadly not on the our screen list currently but I can request it, for which it would be useful to demonstrate support. Anyone interested in that?
  4. Also just enjoyed a huge veggie breakfast at Cafe 325 this morning, really hit the spot and only a fiver. Lots of good value sounding meals on the menu from jacket potatoes and omelettes to bigger hot meals. Can see myself popping in for take out when feeling lazy. I hope they stick around. Anyone know their opening hours? Forgot to check.
  5. Flipping annoying. I have to get rid of a piece of garden furniture which is falling apart irretrievably, not that big, but too big to go in the bin, hard to justify spending ?16 on, but what else am I going to do? No car to take it to the tip. If anyone else is organising a bulk collection I can add this too for a couple of quid, let me know!
  6. Is the cycling bypass affected? I haven't been up that way in a while. If not, I strongly recommend using that, it adds on only a few minutes and is much safer than sharing the roads with all the traffic, especially whilst the new changes bed in.
  7. You must have searched via Google right? there are tons e.g. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/halloween.
  8. Bags are pretty cheap at Farmers, but I've found that even with two bags they aren't surviving and have holes in when I go to put them out, so I end up triple bagging them. Just me? Anyone found better ones?
  9. It might be worth posting on or trawling the My Fitness Pal forums https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/fitness-and-exercise. Oddly enough, they have some surprising good solid advice on there. It is very strength training focussed, and (amongst some entertaining idiocy) there are some knowledgeable posters who are free with their advice. And it usually avoids some of the unappealing bro science you find on bodybuilding forums. I also hear good things about the New Rules for Lifting http://www.thenewrulesoflifting.com/ but have no idea how it stacks up, am a newbie myself. Good luck.
  10. Also looking into these, would be interested to know how you get on with the Nest. The only feature I'm really interested in is being able to switch the heating on and off via app as I don't come in and out at regular times. So some of the "learning" stuff Nest et al feature is overkill. Have done a bit of searching, but can't find one that just allows app control, so guessing I'll have to go with a fully "smart" one. Or has anyone found a simpler one that just does this?
  11. Oh, I'm going to miss their overpriced weird deli stuff, and US imports, genuinely. Although I probably only went in once a year, tbh.
  12. Another thought, near my parents home there is a pub/restaurant that gives you a free meal if you bring in produce that they can use (e.g. excess fruit from your garden). Which is a great idea. Any local places that make the same offer?
  13. So glad someone is doing this. Silvester Road is also heaving with crabapples. I've preserved what I could reach in a spiced sugar syrup (will happily share recipe, they are delicious, very good with icecream), but there are still loads left I can't get at, and they are dropping in huge piles. The windfalls are too much of a mess to use, I think, but someone with a ladder could have rich pickings. Can't bear seeing them all go to waste, even though they aren't edible off the tree, they do also make good jams, fruit butters and jellies.
  14. Not seen anywhere asking for tickets. I think quite a lot of the local pubs are showing it. Flying Pig is, I know, pretty sure also EDT, Actress, Cherry Tree. Haven't been out in a while to watch a game though, where is the best place to watch in the opinion of other EDFers?
  15. Can anyone advise? I am tearing my hair out. I have a drive formatted for a mac, and I need to get at the files on my PC. I've tried HFS explorer, but it just tells me that it can't find the handler for this partition. I've tried Paragon's HFS+, which I've paid for, but the drive is still not showing up in explorer, and under disk management it can see it but tells me it's "unallocated" and won't let me assign a drive number. There are definitely files on the drive, I could see them yesterday on a friend's mac. Any techy folk here have any suggestions? Or a mac that I could use to view the files on, perhaps? Have contacted the software support and trawled the various tech forums, not finding anything.

    Crab Apples

So many crab apples on Silvester Road, it pains me to see them all going to waste. Currently piling up on the pavement. I'm not a jam maker (or much of a jam eater) though, and they are a bit high up to pick them off the tree without a ladder. If anyone else can use them and wants to swap some of whatever they make for something else, I'd happily sign up to that. My parents used to preserve whole crab apples with sugar and cinammon, I did like those, will have to check on the recipe.
  17. Didn't the Flying Pig have a sign saying they were showing all the games? Or was it just the England games? Think I also saw the screen in the Lordship Pub with the game on when I went past on Sunday. I do miss Hoopers for the rugby :(
  18. I haven't actually been, but I remember hearing good things about a campsite that allows fires in the Vale of the White Horse. Looks like it's this one http://www.britchcombefarm.co.uk/. Doesn't say when they are open but appears to fit the bill on other counts, walks are certainly good around there, along the ridgeway especially, and there is a pub quite near by if I recall correctly.
  19. Thanks for your response @TheCoalLine, very encouraged to hear all that. Still feel awkward sharing the project whilst the video is the way it is though, to be honest. I would make it a priority to shoot some interviews with those groups you mentioned and cut them into the video, it would really help strengthen your case and show that it is a genuine community project. And it will protect you from any further criticism. I'm sure you're stretched but if you still have all the assets and the edit sequence from before it shouldn't take too long. I'd offer to help but I'm about to go away. Good luck with the project.
  20. What a great idea, I've already pledged. BUT, then I watched the video, which makes me quite uncomfortable. It doesn't look like the very diverse Peckham I know, with very very few non-white faces. It sounds like you are working hard to make this a community project and I assume that means being as inclusive as possible, but this doesn't come across in the video. When I shared it with friends before I'd watched it, someone immediately pointed it out and used fairly strong terms to describe how they saw this, and when I watched it I was also struck by it and was very disappointed. Would you consider addressing this with a new video?

    Hand Grenade

Yes of course you report it! Not worth the risk, unless you are a weapons expert and are sure it is disarmed. Alternatively, take it into a fossil museum *boggles* http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2606085/Pictured-Incredible-moment-unexploded-HAND-GRENADE-WWII-D-Day-rehearsal-detonates-Dorset-beach-tourist.html.
  22. I'm sure she's reported it as well, giggirl is not daft. But Silvester Road does seem to be a target for flytippers, no idea why, and it's frustrating to have to keep reporting it. It gets cleaned up fast, which is good, but keeps happening. So I understand the urge to publicly shame and call out this behaviour. Perhaps more could be done to enforce the law here? Maybe James has some suggestions? Judging by what gets left, I think it may be a combination of people dumping their own rubbish, and others that have taken bin bags from properties to root through, and then dumped them.
  23. There is a cycling bypass around the whole of E&C, so you need never use the actual roundabout. It's marginally slower, but much much safer. See if this link works http://gb.mapometer.com/running/route_4127136.html have tried to show the route round the northern bypass from St George's Circus down to Burgess Park where you can then head through the park - canal route - peckham to ED or onto Southampton Way. At New Kent road, you crossover at lights and onto cycle path on pavement. Let me know if you can't see the link and I'll try and explain.
  24. Damn, been lucky to catch Daniel Kitson there a couple of times and am a fan of the quiz. Anyone know if that will keep on going?
  25. Ta, that's reassuring. red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think the singing in early Spring is more to do > with territory and finding a mate. Most birds will > have paired up by now and will be quietly sitting > on eggs and/or feeding their young...
