England player escapes ban in World Cup year shocker. I agree that Boyd didn't deliberatey spit at Hart. Do the FA ever give a written explanation as to how the independent panel arives at a judgement? If not, it would help...

You shouldn't forget that Petit and Viera could look after themselves. IMO that Arsenal team was even better than the Invincibles, because they were a team for all seasons. Wenger never really replaced them in that respect...
-
Not sure why those tactics were employed, as you say, we had plenty of our own talent, probably because the result that day was more important than the performance. It wasn't unique, most teams realised you could 'get at' Arsenal. I'd take it as a compliment ;-)

I'm going to embrace the underdog role BR, it's a win win situation ;-) SJ is right, until Arsenal went down to 10 men they more than held their own. The first leg is key, if we go out gung ho they'll just pick us off, a low scoring draw would set up the 2nd leg nicely...

I'm scratching around for positives...here'e one, the German's don't like it up 'em... :)

True dat, but would've fancied our chances against AM, PSG, BD or CFC, now it's simply a case of damage limitation...

I can't think of a London club that has really dominated the league like Utd and Liverpool have. For me the big negative against Wenger is that he never produced a team that won back to back titles like the great teams do. Even the Invincibles failed in that respect, giving the air of one hit wonders. I agree with SJ that City and Chelsea's finances have skewed the market, but Wenger always said that there was big money available to spend on players, but he chose not to. Maybe Wenger was being astute by not spending big, because once you do the pressure to deliver increases. City and especially Chelsea have had a high turnover of managers because expectations to deliver trophies has grown the more they've spent... Nice try ????...Manchester > London :)

Miscellaneous musings... Fellaini's 5 minute cameo last night was the best I've seen him play in a red shirt, he even found his ideal position on the pitch...the corner flag. According to a West Ham season ticket supporting friend, tickets for the MU game are going for ?150...why? Congratulations to Arsene Wenger on becoming a member of the 1000 club. Interesting stat, all his trophies were won within the first 500 games. Good luck to Spurs tonight, but I think it could get messy for them in Lisbon....
