  1. I don't think Welbeck suffers from a lack of confidence, he was dropped after milking it in front of the fans after he scored a great goal against Derby, Fergie wouldn't do that to someone who's confidence levels were suspect. Up front England are short of attacking options, Fergie probably meant it wouldn't be difficult to break into the current England set-up. Fergie obviously has more faith in youth than your good self Matthew, no one had even heard of Beckham Butt, Scholes & Nevilles, and they went on to win the double in their first proper season together. A price war with Citeh can only develop if a player is interested in playing for them in the first place. What with no European football, they'll end up with a team of mercenaries e.g Barry. I wonder where that nice Mr. Bellamy will ply his trade next?..
  2. How long have you lived in Donkey Alley Brendan?..
  3. sorry, living on the SE22 borders I'm too busy manning the barricades against the Nunhead barbarians to notice the LL ethnic/tribal conflict...
  4. Therein lies the problem with Springsteen for me, it's all too 'Mom's Cherry Pie', I just can't relate to his music and 'storytelling', give me The Who anyday. Glad you enjoyed the gig anyway, that's all that matters...
  5. Why don't you come back when you've got your 'shortlist' established, and we can then have a Eurovision Song Contest stylee vote...
  6. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Where are SP and red_devil? I want to know if > you're pleased with the situation? Sorry for taking so long to answer your question Keef, I was away at the time, but for what it's worth my thoughts are that off the pitch it is very good business for the club, but on the pitch we will miss him greatly. I've always thought that Fergie should follow Capello's example and build the team around Rooney, and now that Ronaldo has gone, that's possible. Valencia is probably the next best thing to Ronaldo in the Premiership as an out and out winger/dribbler, and it looks like we should be signing him up, but we also need someone to replace Ronaldo's goals. I'd like to see Benzema in a Utd shirt, he's got a presence about him, but he's not proven at the highest level, so a could be risky (I'd take Owen on a pay as you play/score contract!). Fergie spoke previously about Welbeck being in England's WC squad next year so perhaps he has already pencilled him and Macheda in to get more games next season. As for Tevez, I think his stubborness will cost him, wherever he ends up he won't get guaranteed 1st team football, ironically he probably would've got more games at Utd with Ronaldo going. If he ends up at Citeh, he'll be back at square one...
  7. Those vertical stripes are certainly slimming...
  8. Having lived there for a few years and seen and heard at first hand their petty smallmindedness, Scotland's whole raison d'etre is their chip on the shoulder with the English...
  9. Keef, the Beeb have already shown them playing their classic Stonehenge, accompanied by a couple of dwarf druids running around an inflatable Stonehenge...priceless
  10. Just for you Matthew, courtesy of The Guardian... Fergie finally spends his ?80 million... http://static.guim.co.uk/Guardian/football/gallery/2009/jun/24/1/WebbRiley-2648.jpg
  11. Mr Ben, is that you in the pith helmet behind Mr Jackson?..
  12. Dammers was the driving force behind The Specials, writing most of the songs and was also involved in the production side. I just thought it was a shame they couldn't sort out their differences (was it over money?) - life's too short etc. Annywaay, does anyone know what's happened to their old trombone player Rico Rodriguez? The last time I saw him he was in the Jools Holland band...
  13. That's very debatable MP, post-war there were lots of socio-economic factors going on, as well as music and film (Rebel Without a Cause), which gave rise to the 'teenager'. Chuck Berry was a big influence on Elvis and The Beatles, but never got the full recognition he deserved, probably due to the colour of his skin - don't forget America was still segregated at that time. I'm not saying MJ was better or worse than Elvis and The Beatles, but as the first black (no jokes please!) global superstar, I think that's a pretty impressive epitath to have...
  14. 6/1 for Michael Jackson to have every song in next weeks top ten...
  15. ...and play Germany in the final, would be a great boost for next years World Cup if we won...
  16. The Specials were brilliant, shame they can't kiss and make up with Jerry Dammers. Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think...
  17. Your right it wasn't undercover filming, I remember the interviews on the trains, but by 'expose' I meant it was probably the first time a lot of the public got to see and hear young men basically saying they go to a football match just for a good old fashioned punch-up... What were the politics of the ICF?, again from memory there would be several black faces in their ranks (Cass Pennent?), but West Ham also had a strong NF reputation around that time. At Utd the bias was very anti-fascist, especially as there was strong support from a large Irish community...
  18. Ok, it's a given that mancs and scousers hate each other, but this survey of Ldn fans throws up some strange rivalries, no prizes for guessing which teams fans have grown a recent dislike to Shef Utd, eh Quids?.. Fans Hate Survey...* *Apologies in advance for directing you to the Daily Mail website...
  19. Ditto Villa Park FA Cup semi, Utd v Gooners. Consider it a rite of passage Ratty, animals scenting out their territory. Does anyone remember 'Fighting Stars', part of the 70's Kung Fu craze?.. http://www.croydonguardian.co.uk/resources/images/587336/?type=display
  20. Quidsy, were you part of the firm that came up to OT that was filmed by World in Action(?) as an 'expose' on hooligans?..
  21. ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's a united scarf! > > Nice fooking shot imo! I would have gone for the > japs eye though! It could be a Huns scarf, blue and white, with a thin red stripe... I don't think the perpertrator could actually miss Ratty! Having said that, it looks like one of those darts you get at the fun fair which is specially weighted to miss the board...Jah, didn't Pat Jennings get hit with a dart? I remember a Utd fan got hit with a dart in his head at Anfield in the Annie Road end, nowadays we have to make do with bags of shit thrown at us...nice
