  1. I second the calls for Badger or Ringwood. Blandford Fly, Badger Best, Tanglefoot and Ringwood 49er all good calls. I find Theakstons a bit dull. There's a west country beer called Tribute or Tribune I think (can never remember which, and that's lush). Or pop in the Vale and see the couple of real ales they've been keeping lately from a Kent Brewery no more than 40 miles away. Think one was called Trafalgar and was very good indeed. To be honest, as long as the ale's well kept and there's a choice it will keep people like me happy.
  2. Pretty sure it's not the Perrett house. Perrett Tower's is the one in this vid I think - though hard to tell. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2can93JGLSI&feature=related Anyone who's interested in Perrett and the Only Ones should have a read of the "One and Only" by Nina Antonia, for a fantastically scuzzy account of fecklessness and addiction in Forest Hill. But, moving smoothly back onto topic - I though the whole issue with the concrete house was that they couldn't track down the owners to enforce repairs under it's listed status? I'd assume if plans to develop are in then they've resurfaced?
  3. Shurely a private members club above the EDT is a brilliant idea? Will keep all the tossers in one place and free up a few seats in the other pubs and bars. This was tongue in cheek by the way. But true.
  4. when you post a throwaway comment on the EDF in a light hearted thread only for it to be interrogated to the nth degree... but back on topic the true mark of an East Dulwichite must be when you buy a season ticket to Dulwich Hamlet...all the rest are just imposters!

  6. Didn't the large wooden shed burn down about 5 years ago?

There was a programme on ITV a few weeks ago which touched on the POW camps. Programme was 'Disappearing London' hosted by Suggs. The POW were Italian if I recall correctly and were generally left alone to get on with it. One of the huts which is now a nursery group is now a listed building. You could probably track the programme down online if interested.
  8. It's not giving grief. People are just pointing out it's a bit unfair to insinuate dishonesty in a Somerfield's employee on a public messageboard.

Or was there actual evidence that proves Somerfields is a hotbed of card crime and I just missed it?
  10. http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/planningonline2/DocsOnline/Documents/17507_1.pdf According the Habitat and Environment study (commissioned I think on behalf of the devloper) - there aint no bats! See page 11 in the linked document above "The trees on site appeared to offer no opporunities for roosting bats" All the docs for the application can be viewed here: http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/planningonline2/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeDocs&TheSystemkey=9525284
  11. Ratty according to the planning appeal (which looks like it has been given) "It is clear from this that existing trees on the appeal site are mostly not ideal specimens and that some are in a poor state of health. Only a few trees are in reasonable condition. I am informed that the Council had decided not to confirm a Tree Preservation Order on the sit." See p2 of the doc in the link http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/planningonline2/DocsOnline/Documents/24873_1.pdf
  12. Thanks LEA - I thought I was going mad then as was sure the original plan included flats! Basically they're trying to shoehorn into a tiny bit of land, and have to build new access through a cul-de-sac to do so.
  13. Ladygooner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So now we have the traffic for Sainsburys, the car > wash, Sainsburys staff parking and the gym? Should > be fun! And what's with those new wooden bollards that have appeared next to the Dulwich Hamlet's car park? I guess it's to prevent people parking there and getting in the way of the football coaches? Or maybe to stop the fly tipping? As for the gym, it will doubtless increase traffic and clutter the streets with more cars. The number of cars on the road has increased in the four years I've lived on the estate which is a bit annoying considering most houses have 1 space for off-street parking. benmorg suggests it should be good news for homeonwers - but the point is there's already a gym on the doorstep at Dulwich Hamlets as well as the one on Lordship Lane. So it's all about the flats really - and I wouldn't be too chuffed at being overlooked by them or being right next to them. Assuming the Garden Centre also gets replaced by flats the urban density of this little bit of ED is going to get even thicker, which is galling as just over the road on the DKH estate there still appear to be numerous boarded up flats which really should be made available. Rant over!
  14. Ok so this might be a bit random and I'm sure there are many things the Internet is good for... ...but in my experience travel sites are not one of them - sites like Lastfeckinminute, Expedia, blah blah blah you know all the usual ones provide absolutley dreadful hotels with awful flight times and once you add up all the extras you'd have done better going to a travel agent... so question is what do the good citizens of ED use? I find skyscanner.com and sawdays quite useful but I figure there must be some other decent sites out there?? cheers
  15. It was a great festival bit muddy on Friday but cleared up nicely. Bon Iver was great as were Conor Oberst and American Music Club on the Friday. Best bit for me was Billy Childish on Sunday, very louod very funny. The lowest bit was err, Low. Dreadful.
  16. Thanks Gabster - have not seen them for a few days - will keep an eye out though. Snorky - I've got a squirrel if you want that - in fact I'd pay you to take the bugger away?
  17. Aye - I'll leave the thread to get back on track - sorry Admin person.
  18. Sorry, perhaps I'm making too big a point of it, but comments like those above that "people are the sorts > who actually chose for themselves where they would > like to live rather than just flock to where > everyone else is. There is a certain psychology > involved in that and it is evident in the > character of the area" just make me laugh. It comes across as patronising, sanctimoniouos and elitist in my reading. This forum appears dominated by a number of posters who post regularly and would seem to share similar views (in short liberal bourgouise, anti-chain*, anti-consumer, anti anything populist (because of course popular = naff and you want to be seen as different and above the hoi-polloi). Anyhow that's my two pennies. Unless of course it's M&S, Green & whatever etc......

The bar sounds like my idea of hell but I'm sure it will do well.
  20. Ratpack - let's call it ?20 for or one or two for ?30 and they're yours?? Cheers *** Please note this was a joke, please do not PM asking for prices / availability / slug clearing potential ***
  21. Thanks for the tips people. I put some cat food out and they wolfed it down and spent the evening shuffling around the garden. Haven't seen / heard them today. The tiggywinkles link above was useful I might have to make one of those 'Hedgehog Houses' to encourage them away from the back door! Though I did read somewhere they were incredibly stupid animals so they'll probably just ignore it... This was East Dulwich Autumn Watch bought to you by TheePope.
  22. A couple of Hedgehogs have decided to make a home under some ivy and in some dead leaves right next to the patio door in my garden. I know they're nocturnal, but one seems to be quite active for the day time. Don't know whether that's normal. Shall I just leave them to get on with it or might they need some help?* Thanks *How do you help a hedgehog?!
  23. I'd like 'Digby, the biggest dog in the world' for future reference. Or 'Beethoven 2'. Basically anything with a big dog in it.
