That seems to be the case, the bus started there this morning. Top tip - don't wait at ED station bus stop, get on at Grove Vale, it will be full in the 100m to ED station.

  4. It's just so annoying. I'm guessing it will have a negligible effect on rail services and just makes it look stark and depressing. Right I'm off to Kew to get some giant redwood seeds. Roll on spring.
  5. Well yes, that's the obvious reason but was it really necessary?
  6. Why have they chopped down so many trees behind the platform at ED station? Is it to: a) better display the rubbish that accumulates behind the fence b) make the journey into town even more miserable by removing cover from the rain c) allow the residents in the houses behind a better view of the "station" d) allow people waiting on the platform to have a good gawp at the those houses e) an active attempt at thinning out the trees to promote the growth of species native to the ED ecosphere f) no reason Grrr,
  7. Have never found much cheap country accomodation, particularly if it's just for a weekend. I really like the look of lots of Landmark Trust places but am yet to stay in one. Not cheap but they might have last minute availability: http://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/ Otherwise the Sawdays book on English B&B's has some good reasonably price options. http://www.sawdays.co.uk/accommodation/britain/ Don't use lastminute for anything, you'll end up in some godforsaken dive which looks ace in the pictures...
  8. Or simply post on a Daily Mail forum.

And obviously failed.
  10. Regional Response template: This sounds like a load of old tosh that's been done a million time before. Ends.
  11. Maybe I'm being oversensitive but to those speculating on the value lost, the merits of selling it as a commercial property etc. Would you like it if your home (home, not property) burnt down and people were speculating on the value of it? Sad.
  12. I noticed that, figured it was just an effect of the fog, but maybe they're new and are the beginning of new investment and a push for the premiership and European footie... How are they doing at the moment anyhow - they were hovering just outside the play-offs last time I checked.
  13. ouch! Ok, maybe I was harsh. Just seems a bit sad that a thread about someone being burnt out of their home descends into a debate about the merits of selling said property and whether it should or shouldn't piss you off if people kept asking you to sell.

Maybe she's different from you, and values her home more than speculating on making a load of dosh. Who knows. Hope she's ok anyhow.
  15. Sidestepping the debate above, I'd been wondering what that curved flat, shoe-horned into a garden at the top of Dog Kennel Hill would be going for, and now I know. ?445k gets you 3 beds and a very odd shaped kitchen. http://www.winkworth.co.uk/Sale/WNKDUL000886?mode=Sale&type=flat&priceMin=20000&priceMax=1000000000&offID=dc6abe7a-7da5-4cf4-968b-5bcd41aa130c&pageIndex=0 Now back to the council v private v Thatcher debate.
  16. EDOldie - thanks for the tip - I know now what it is! It's a roller skate door stop / book end! http://www.conranshop.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=400985&cid=GiftsHim&language=en-GB How have I ever lived without one of these?! Anyone own up to buying one?
  17. Soooo, I ventured out of the house on Sunday for a little bit of last minute Christmas shopping. I figured with the propensity of gift shops opened over the last few years I'd be able to find something, but all in all is it really a good place to shop? Now, I'm not knocking having nice interesting shops, but the expense and the bizarre nature of some of what was on offer! My favourites were: From Moo - coloured plastic mixing bowls & spoons all fitting together, a snip at ?35 From Mrs Robinson - a ceramic, casted rollerskate & boot (didn't dare pick it up to see price) From Mrs Robinson - a lamp bigger than my house (ditto) Ethnicy gift shop near DIY store - a Celestial, 3 wicked candle, 3" high and 5" diameter, ?45 The ethical shop - a brushed steel dual bin (one for recycling geddit) - ?190 Ditto - a coat hanger rail on a tricycle to carry your shopping Oliver Bonas - my mind had gone insane by then but I was impressed by 4 shop assistants and a security guard - it's tiny There was other stuff too, all over the Lane, seriously who is buying this and what kind of a salary do you have to be on to not bat an eyelid paying for it? Please answers - it was surreal! What's the maddest item on the lane you've seen?
  18. check moneysupermarket.com, still 12 month fixed rate bonds available at 5%, cash ISA's at 4.5% tax free but rate will probably go down... or buy US dollars or a lump of gold or utility stocks or oil shares (they will come back up when oil runs out in 2020), or put it all on Blackburn to lose their next match. or start your own Ponzi scheme. Remember the value of your investment can go up and down or indeed disapear into alltogether. Hope that's cleared things up. And nope I don't have a clue what to do with some modest savings now I actually have some for the first time ever!
  19. hoipolloi I feel your pain, over many years of regret and shame I have managed on various occasions to: persuade a senior partner to sit on a space hopper I'd purchsed as a secret santa present, he bounced once, fell off and cracked his head against a chair. I've accidentally set myself on fire whilst attempting to look suave (I was leaning against a window, a candle was on the windowsill, my shoulder went up in flames. I didn't notice, a kindly soul put it out). The only comfort is knowing there is normally someone worse behaved than you, and to this day I thank my lucky stars I was not involved several years ago in an unfortunate party popper filled with chocolate cake incident which resulted in several thousands pounds worth of specialist cleaning work to a grade 2 listed ceiling. That said I no longer go to work Christmans parties. Chin up.
  20. Only one way to solve this http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=love+cyclists&word2=hate+cyclists And we have a winner!
  21. Original Theakston's brewers left to creat the Black Sheep brewery who are v. recommended. But enough of this! At the end of the day I think we can all agree that all beer is good... Lets drink to that
  22. Old Peculier - Pah! A quick glance on Wikipedia (which I am assured is 100% reliable !) confirms my suspicions - Theakstons is part of Scottish & Newcastle and now presumbably Heineken. *Puts CAMRA hat on and advocates support of small regional breweries and untied pubs*
  23. Err, no Sue I'm not! Or not that I know of, never tried Ganapati but look forward to at some stage. But seriously Theakstons! Ok, maybe it's alright, but it's one of the more common ales you see in pubs and it's usually pretty bland at least when I've had it in London. Try some Ringwood 49er - then come back and agree with me! Anyway far too early to be talking ale.
